It is okay sushi. Can't comment on the other food... If you are like me and most sushi eaters, you would like to have awesome sushi not just okay. Considering that it is in a city with more of a "small town" mentality, this is one of the few choices for sushi. If you are familiar with what awesome sushi really tastes like and are in the mood for some fabulous rolls, then skip this place and drive to Memphis. If you want fantastic sushi take a drive to Birmingham to Thai Emerald. If you gotta settle for a Jackson sushi restaurant drive to the South Side of town. Also, this restaurant seems to be popular so it tends to be very busy, service can be slow and the price is too high for the quality and lack of flavor you get. read more

I had the Phoenix roll and the sunset roll. Both were very good. The rice was properly flavored and prepared, which is the secret to a good taste combination in sushi. Also the rolls were huge. I will eat here again read more

The negative reviews from 08 need to be taken out. The sushi at Sakura is better than any sushi anywhere in the area. Jackson and Germantown (Memphis) are the 2 locations and you will not be dissatisfied. The Sushi may seem to be more expensive that what you are used to but the rolls are massive and 1-2 will fill up anyone. This is a great Sushi Spot. You will not be disappointed. read more

I was accompanying my parents to dinner, but was not feeling great. I got the miso soup and seaweed salad. There were marinated cucumbers hidden underneath the seaweed salad. They were sweet and very delicious. The soup and seaweed salad were very good. My mom got the clear broth soup and salad with ginger dressing. For the cost (cheap), the salad and soup were very nice portions and the salad looked delicious. My dad got the vegetable tempura dinner and it came on a platter served with soup, salad and bowl of rice. It was enough for two people! It looked delicious and Dad said it was. read more

Sakura is my gold standard sushi restaurant I judge all other sushi restaurants against. They have a great selection of rolls, many of which are very creative. Lots of cooked and raw rolls to try. The key to good sushi is the rice. And sakura does a good consistent job with their rice every time. Service is outstanding and the sushi chef knows his regulars and puts effort to know everyone. His sister owns the place and he's been there for over 10 years. I've been to Sakura maybe a dozen times. He recognizes me and remembers my name, even though I'm an out of towner that visits seldom. But each time I go in I just tell the chef to bring me two rolls and I've never been disappointed. I make sure I come to Sakura every time I'm in town. I haven't found sushi this good anywhere else! read more

Sakura Restaurant - Japanese Near Me - Jackson, Tennessee

Wow, mind is blown. How is this place in Jackson TN? I've had sushi in Japan, Canada (heavy Asian population), China (Hong Kong the food Mecca etc.), Brazil (Sau Paulo - big Japanese population)... I've been to some expensive sushi joints. But the sushi rolls here, wow, good proportion of rice to fish, good roll combination (fish mix, thin layer of fish, more fish mix, more sauces...), great taste! Even the seaweed salad is good. A very memorable meal indeed. If you like rolls, give this place a try. We ate the Pheonix, sunset and Mardi gras. All good. read more

Delicious! My go-to for the best fried rice and of course yum yum sauce and big portions. Sushi is always great too made fresh!

My husband and two kids went there for a spur of the moment dinner. We weren't sure what to get. We always go for something new we haven't tried before. The waitress was amazing she helped us out with all of our questions. She was attentive and kind. The food we ordered was great up until my husbands food came out. It was far to hot. My kids and I were done eating before he could even take a few bites. Would I go back? Heck yeah. Would we order the same thing. No! read more

This should be number one in Jackson. I can't over state how good the food is here. Order a couple rolls for two people and you will be full. The best thing about this place other than the flavor is that they know how to give you a proper portion. I have many favorites but for rolls I like the fire, yum yum, Sakura roll, Mexico and so many others. I have not had many things here that I would not love to eat again. read more

Solid choice for sushi in Jackson. I've had a few out of town people from work claim it's some of the best they have had. I would recommend this place for sure. I do wish they would train and manage the waiting/hostess to not openly goof off and flirt among each other out in the open loudly. Not a deal breaker, but's it's annoying to have to listen to. read more

Yummy, yummy, yummy!!!! You can not go wrong with the sushi or habachi rice. The other kitchen meats are usually very dry and chewy. Jerky comes to mind. The all you can eat holiday buffet is a must have read more

Very good Maki rolls and as a bonus, they even have Sapporo beer on draft. Unfortunately, poor service by the clueless server and the downright dreary atmosphere is driving this 2-star review. read more

Been eating here since college. I like to come in for early weekday lunches these days - though there is usually a line at the door before opening at 11am, they get everybody in and seated quickly. For appetizers, I like edamame. I used to get gyoza, but they changed the recipe to shrimp, which my husband can't eat. The new recipe is tasty, but not the same now that my family can't share. I like to get an entree just for the salad - both dressings are delicious! There are a lot of very tasty and complicated sushi recipes with full explanations in the back of the menu. You can ask for substitutions. The ingredients always seem quite fresh. The food is reliable and, barring changes noted on the menu, will be the same from visit to visit. The wait staff's performance is hit or miss - sometimes they are great, sometimes they seem under-scheduled, and sometimes they just don't seem to care. The owner can be seen running around filling different roles and schmoozing with diners. I wish they would open up their hours for mid-afternoon sushi cravings. read more

Here's the thing: Sakura was my favorite sushi spot, until they moved to the bigger location. The food is great, but the service is terrible. I've been "back" several times during the past year, hoping to have a redeemable experience, but each time I left disappointed. I've been going to Fuji Yama instead, and it is a more quaint atmosphere (like Sakura used to be), and the staff is very friendly, and more "authentic" if you know what I mean. The prices are a smidgen higher, but for larger quantity. Also, Fuji Yama has the Hibachi grill that my wife prefers over sushi. read more

Pretty decent sushi, service was also good but it wasn't very busy when I was there. I would eat there again but I'm good so around to see if there's better sushi around here. read more

This used to be our ABSOLUTE FAVORITE sushi place ever; however, they've recently had a leadership/ownership change and the restaraunt has gone down hill significantly. The fish isn't as fresh as it used to be. The rolls are filled with cucumber as a filler. The rolls aren't made properly so they don't stay together when you pick them up...and the list goes on. If you are going to eat sushi in Jackson, do yourself a favor and either go to Asia Garden or Geisha. Seems that the people who knew how to make sushi from Sakura have gone to one of these two places. read more

Though their maki roll list seems endless, most of them seemed to repeat the same 3 ingredients of shrimp, crawfish and/or "crabstick". I decided instead to go for the beef sukiyaki, which was fairly cheap at $7.50 for a dinner entree. It was decent enough, though I think I would have been better off trying the Mexican place across the street. read more

Attention sushi lovers!! Slightly off the beaten path, the sushi at Sakura is fresh, beautiful, and delicious! I recommend the Alfredo, the Mexico, and the Sakura! read more

Many other places have opened and copied what Sakura has done. This is still the best sushi in Jackson and possibly the best I have had. Since going under new management I believe the service is better. Agree with other reviewers that it was bad at one point. I always sat at the sushi bar and got great service. I really enjoy the Pickwick roll and the yellow tail sashimi. read more

One of the sushi chefs answered the phone with his gloves on, went right back and started making sushi without changing gloves. Disgusting! The sushi is always good but this is unacceptable. Don't know if I will be back, even though this is the best sushi in town this ruined it for me. read more

Doesn't sound possible but this sushi gem off the highway between Nashville and Memphis is spectacular!!!!!! The Mardi Gras and Tornado rolls rival anything I have had in SF...no joke. If you are ever passing through Jackson, pull off Highway 45 and try it. read more

Best sushi in Tennessee, surprisingly is in Jackson!! I had the Phoenix, it was amazing and so big I couldn't eat it all in one setting!

I am new to Jackson from the PNW, so I know good sushi. We tried this place just randomly, and was VERY pleased. Sushi was way better than expected especially from a land locked region. Will for sure go back! read more

Just passing thru and I found the apsolute best sushi restaurant I have every been to. The sea weed salad was amazing. The Octopus also unique and delicious. All the Sashimi was fresh, cold and delicious. My favorite was the hand rolls and the Eel. Well done!!!!!! read more

The BEST sushi I have had... ever! I eat here at least once a week (and I'm an hour away). My favorite roll is the Phoenix, but I would recommend that Mexico or Alfredo for beginners. I also like the Garland and the Rainbow. The Mermaid Salad is really good if you like tuna. This is my absolute favorite place to eat. Tell Joe that Rachel sent you! :) read more

The specialty rolls are huge. They over do the salad dressing. Seaweed salad is fresh. This is a good restaurant close to the interstate. The outside is unassuming and looks like it might be closed. read more

Slow service. Our server didn't check up on us and was not helpful when I asked about menu. Food was pretty good, but sauce doesn't compare to Sakura's/Samurai's back home (tacoma, WA) read more

The food was better and the restaurant was cleaner before the previous owner sold the business . Food is mediocre . Go somewhere else, you are not missing anything special. Service sucked... read more

Always to make sure to stop in here whenever I'm in Jackson. Really some of the best Sushi out there. Love the Mardi Graw Roll and many others. First class seaweed salad - with cucumber and celery. Service is also great. I also cannot believe how someone could review this place so low. read more

The end all, be all for sushi in Jackson...has been for years now and is the only place I frequent when I want some real sashimi. They've always been consistent and I know what to expect when I order. Mermaid salad really shines here. Don bowls are great too and dinner/lunch hot entrees come with lots of sides that make them a real bang for the buck. Huge sushi/sashimi samplers, giant rolls, drink specials.....what's not to love! I'm firmly behind team Sakura. read more

By far the best sushi in Tennessee. Must get rolls: Godzilla Picoso Mango Tropical Mexico Marty All of them are amazing and will not disappoint. Friendly service and great atmosphere. A must visit. read more

The food is just ok. The best of our order was the ramen noodles. The sushi was not as fresh as one can expect in a Sushi place. The least bad was the "Mike" roll. The "spicy tuna" and "spicy girl" rolls's tuna had some taste of lemon in it. The rice was over cooked. read more

Great service had delivery. Really nice girl that delivered the food. Mango Roll is the way to go. So goooooood. I didn't actually go there but great food usually picky about my food. Told me it was gonna take an hour took less than 30 mins prob so that's a plus. Did I say order the mango roll. read more

Best sushi in Jackson. Good portions and prices. Had the Brenda and New Orleans, which I would definaly order again. It's is also nice to see actual sushi chefs behind the counter at Sakura instead of basic line cooks. read more

Food is excellent! Omar roll is our favorite and we have tried many. Not going to mark 5 because service can sometimes be a challenge when dining in and I think they should expand their hours. Great for pick-up as well. read more

We ate here a couple of years ago when we were visiting from Houston and I wanted to go back. It did not disappoint We had the Mexico roll and the Pickwick roll. The presentation is beautiful, and they were both so delicious. The portion size is so large we couldn't finish it. On top of all of that the prices are very reasonable. We will definitely return next time! read more

Sakura Restaurant - Japanese Near Me - Jackson, Tennessee

I leave in Boca Raton, Fl and I went up to Jackson, TN for a cousins wedding. He raved that Jackson has the best Sushi even compared to all the sushi places he had while living in South Florida. After dining at Sakura, I would have to agree with him. I WISH they had one in Florida! read more

Sakura has the best sushi you can get this far from an ocean. The place is quite popular, and stays pretty full, but I've never had to wait long for service. I often get take away for dinner, and the only time I've had to wait longer than the stated time the line for tables was out the door. The non sushi menu is a little sparse, but the variety of rolls available more than makes up. read more

Old run down, dirty, horrible service, often luckey to get more then 1 refill on my drink, often the snow crab is stale. The only reason they are still in business is because people are afraid to try another restaurant. read more

My favorite place to get sushi! The Mexico Roll is my go-to, but Tony Roll is a good one when I'm feeling like switching up (it has pineapple in it for a sweeter taste). Never had a bad experience there! read more
