Took our daughter there for her birthday, and was truly amazed from start to finish. Seldom would I give a 5 star review, but this truly deserved a 5 star rating. Ask for a pillow if dining for the hibachi meal, as the chairs are to low for the table, but they had no problem suppling us with a boster pillow, actually making it perfect. I've been living here for over a month and couldn't go another day without sushi so I came here with a happy heart, excited to eat at Sakuras. I was acknowledged, versus greeted, which is fine. I saw they are "greeting" everyone like this. The service was quick and that was the only positive. I ordered spicy tuna, scallops, octopus, green tea, and miso soup. The green tea was not my cup of tea. It wasn't even green! Terrible scallops were ok, the octopus was good, the miso soup was about as good as the $2 packets they sell at Natural Grocers. Why??!!! I smiled and said thank you and hope to get a single pleasant interaction during the service. None. Fortunately there's one other sushi place I can go to from my bookmarks, unfortunately I'm limited to alternatives. But a sushi house is a happy, fun, uplifting place and so my review cannot go above 2 stars when this place is so sullen. read more

Ordered in with Sakura while I was visiting my daughter in Las Cruces. I got the udon noodles with vegetables and tofu and it may have been the best I've ever had. I could not stop eating. It was a huge portion though so I had to give in and put the leftovers in the fridge. Highly recommend. The sushi is a little expensive but is definitely worth! The serving size is nice 1 serving was enough to split between one adult and one hungry ass teen... lol. The restaurant itself has a super relaxed vibe and staff interaction was pleasant. Absolutely enjoyed the experience and am looking forward to our next visit. Had filet mignon hibachi and the missus got one with chicken. Food was wonderful and the bill was about 25 bucks cheaper than any hibachi on the west coast. Good sake and Japanese beer selection. First off I usually only give positive reviews. Since we travel to Las Cruces from Silver City often we really wanted this place to be great! Heck we wanted it to be even mediocre since sushi is not exactly a hot ticket in Silver City anymore since the sushi restaurant closed there. So that said I ordered 5 pieces of Salmon and Tuna Nigiri and a special salmon tuna etc roll. It came looking gorgeous! Big yummy looking nigiri and beautiful Roll. Well....it was the worst sushi I have ever had. There was absolutely ZERO flavor to the fish as it tasted "Watery" like it had been soaked in water to thaw. The rice oddly enuf had a weird texture as if it was over cooked on the outside and undercooked in the inside. It sucked. The Roll,beautiful but again completely flavorless. Generally most special rolls have some yummy flavorful sauce inside or wasabi at least this tastes like rice with raw fish wrapped around it. Absolutely freaking flavorless. I did not want to say anything but dang I really wanted to like the place so I told our waiter. I hope maybe there was a reason. Like "Huge Saturday night maybe" or "Damn dude we just got slammed with a bus load of junior high school basketball players and had to quickly unthaw the sushi " or "our rice cooker just broke" I dunno!?!?!? Anyway he was nice and said he would get the boss. Boss comes and is like " I don't know why. We have done everything the same way" no apology no hey come back another time and use this $2.75 gift certificate to get a piece of nigiri. Well nope. Nothin. Guess who won't be back!? Sashimi and nigiri are my thing, rolls to me are just too much stuff hiding the flavor of the fish. In my visit here, I ordered sashimi but maybe the waiter didn't believe me because I got nigiri instead. Still, same fish though so no bother. The fish was good; the nigiri had too much rice, but alas that's eating sushi in the US. The age tofu was good. My husband - he of the unadventurous tastebuds - got a cooked dish and liked it. Service was fine. Clearly a lot of money has been dumped into the design/decoration and it's pretty cool, and makes for a nice ambience. The only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is that I admit I'm a sushi snob and can't not compare this to my true Japanese sushi dining experiences. Went today for the first. my appertizer was good and had flavor. Until I order the Tempura box. And had no flavor it was very plain. I politely said I do not want the plate and I was willing to get something else. Until the Manager said "I don't know what you want me to do I'm not taking it off the check because you ordered it." and I had to explain that I did not eat it and I'm not going to eat it" and the manager proceeded to become aggressive and ask "what do you expect me to do?" I had to explain once more to take the plate and do not charge me for that plate. As I was ready to go and pay they still charged me and demanded that I'm still paying for it. And Henry Wo that i assume is the owner? Became hostile and aggressive because I refused to pay for something I did not eat. To the point I had to get aggressive back for my own safety because remind you I am a female being attacked by this restaurant because they got offensive that I did not like that plate and argue with me and I had to get out of character because they refused to take it off the bill. This was my first time here and my last and they will be getting a law suit for harassment. read more

Extremely disappointing. My family was celebrating the high school graduation of my granddaughter on Sunday (May 19). Reservations were called well in advance (approximately a week) as the group was rather large. Upon arrival, fully expecting to experience the hibachi chef, they were rudely told there was no hibachi. If that had been known when the reservations were made we would have made other plans but they never mentioned it. The waitress did her very best as it appeared she was the only one on the floor. Because a couple of guests had to leave early a request was made to get them served first. Mind you the reservation was for 6:00 p.m. and almost all finally had their food by approximately 8:00 p.m.?! The food was cold and below standard for taste and one group still had not received their food by this time. When mention was made of the dissatisfaction, there was an actual confrontation when a staff member challenged a member of the party to go out in the parking lot to "settle it", yelling loudly and who apparently had been eating as food was spat upon the guest. Granted the person he challenged expected much better from the restaurant as they had been there one time before and the food and service were wonderful but he was frustrated, angry and highly disappointed of the service/food/actions of the restaurant that night. The owner/manager apparently retreated to the kitchen area and never came out. The bill was over $600 but there were NO apologies or offer to compensate for the poor cold food service and actions of the restaurant employee. A very poor showing for one guest who came from California and is used to much better and it was a great disappointment to her. The waitress did her best but it was overshadowed by the actions or inaction of the owners. Needless to say none of the party of 23 will return to this place of business. Expensive to say the least for what was received. Based upon the other reviews it seems consistency is not a strong point of this restaurant. The worst service I have ever had in las cruces. I have lived in las cruces for so many years, for being an Asian, I like exploring the Asian restaurant. But definitely not this Sakura! I went there today with my friend for dinner, we got settled by the hibachi table, because my friend wanted hibachi but I just wanted order regular dish. When we started to order, the waitress told me, both of us need to order hibachi, otherwise we could not sit the hibachi table. I questioned if someone came alone, then he/she never can order hibachi by the hibachi table ? What kind of wired rule?! Then the waitress asked the manager, I believe the manager is the owner's wife, she is a Chinese and she was rude, she refused us so we just left! Highly recommend Aqua Reef Euro Asian over this restaurant for sushi and Asian food. I found some parasites in the sushi and asked for the management to inspect the food and threatened me to leave. I later contacted the health and food administration and they are scheduling an inspection of the kitchen in next week. They are not veteran or law enforcement friendly. read more

Came on a whim with a friend for lunch in between classes.. We were seated right away and immediately asked for our drink order.. All of their lunch specials are extremely affordable and delicious! We decided on the Teriyaki Bento Box, it was $10 with ALOT of delicious food! We decided to try one their desserts after and got the Tempura Green Tea Ice Cream.. The "fried" rice was hands down the worst fried rice I've ever had a Japanese restaurant, it was essentially scrambled eggs with soy sauce and white rice. The service was definitely lacking. We ordered 3 lunch entrees and then were served 2 of them dinner sized and was not told this until we got the bill. 63$ total for what should have been $40. Definitely won't be returning. And honestly can't say I want to even see what the other Asian restaurants have to offer in town. read more

We had a great meal here yesterday! Our waitress was really friendly and perky and the restaurant is very well designed. We had a hamachi appetizer- it was cooked to perfection with a light miso for dipping. We then shared the heart roll, a salmon roll, and the dynamite roll. They were just really great- not overloaded with any particular flavors or sauce and well built rolls. We also had a few pieces of sashimi- they were well cut and the presentation was excellent.
