Shrimp tempura roll and Spicy tuna roll

Yummy sushi as always! I went for a solo date. Half priced sushi is always a plus! Dine-in only. I paired it with a delicious Mango Martini (not frozen) so be sure to ask that. I am always pleased here, do yourself a favor and go!

Bandaid in food

There was a bandaid in my food. They took no accountability and asked us if we ordered from somewhere else even when we showed our receipt. Wish I could give them 0 stars, I will never order from here again.

Sushi For Two

Great food at an affordable price. Friendly and prompt service. Classic ambiance. We love to come here for weekend lunches!

I haven't visited Sakura in a while but was quickly reminded why I liked it in the past. It's decor and ambience is great. We had hibachi. The food and prices are average. I don't like having to pay $3.00 extra for noodles!!!! This is one of the reasons I don't visit as often as there are other places where I can get both rice and noodles. My family loves the rice AND noodles and paying $3.00 extra per person is like having another child/adult to feed. Seriously, a family of 4 or 5 adds an extra $12-15 to the bill. Enough about that....lol I love how the hibachi area is separate from the regular dinning and bar area. You don't feel like you're packed on top of each other. The tables and chairs are high so you feel like you have a great view of the table. I don't drink but my husband likes the beer selections and the couple dinning with us liked the drinks from the bar. The hostess is always nice during my visits and you are not sitting and waiting forever for service. There's a watermill which is cool. The kids throw coins in it for good luck.

My daughter and I came here for Mother's Day lunch. We liked the ambiance of the restaurant. We stated off with miso soup which was good. We then had soft shell crab and vegetable roll appetizers. Followed by a variety of hand rolled sushi. Everything was very good and we will be back.

Hibachi Shrimp with fried rice

My boyfriend and I visited on New Years Eve and had hibachi served at the table. Overall service and food was great! We started with a scorpion bowl which was very good but very sweet. For appetizers we had Honey bbq Spare Ribs and Crab Rangoons. They were both AMAZING- definitely the best Chinese food we have had in Hamden. The hibachi served at the table was all very good except the fried rice tasted a little old. Overall I can't wait to come back and try the sushi and more!

Pack your bags Kumo.........there's a new hibachi/ sushi joint in town! I don't know where to begin here, there is so much going on. Just walking in I was taken back by the size of this place...very spacious. The owner(?)/host was super friendly as he greeted everyone who walked in. We explained how we were two out of a party of 8 and were a little early for our reservations. He happily led us over to the bar. The bar area is huge. Dark, nice date spot. We decided on Zentini and a hot sake. The bartender was very friendly and attentive. Wasabi peanuts were set out in dishes at the bar....dangerously addictive. The rest of the party made their way in and the host comped our drinks for "being Red Sox fans" and took us to our grill table. I loved these tables... they were bar height. It was a nice effect for hibachi, as opposed to always feeling slouched in a chair. The menu was your average hibachi , extensive traditional Japanese offerings and an impressive sushi menu. Grilled chicken, the fillet, lobster, scallops were all ordered hibachi style. You are given the soup, salad, shrimp appetizer, fried rice and veggie side. The chef was funny and did all of the typical hibachi jokes. A few people at the table opted for sushi roll appetizers, to include myself. We were so happy that we did. Everything was fresh, innovative and excellent. The RED SOX Roll, was a lobster mango roll. The YANKEES Roll was shrimp tempura wrapped with spicy salmon and covered in avocado and the PASSION Roll was seared pepper white tuna with mango and seaweed salad and drizzled with Thai chili sauce. Amazing! We were all entirely too stuffed to try anything for dessert, but we will be back. This place has left a great impression on us all!

Hibachi tables

I started visiting Sakura Gardens during the "soft opening" a few years back. They had their share of opening issues but the staff was able to work past it and make the best of it. That is why it is called a soft opening. I normally only tried the Hibachi which was better than Kumo located down the road. Recently I have been taking advantage of the half priced sushi deals which are a REALLY good deal. The quality of the food is excellent however I have been there twice and they were out of tuna. (also spicy tuna) I just don't understand how you can be out of a core ingredient like that. The environment is beautiful and can also accommodate large groups in a special section. The hibachi chefs will by default do a show for you that is pretty much the same as any other hibachi place. Where they excel is the owner checks in on you as if you are his visiting family to make sure you are satisfied. There is a "river" that flows under the tables next to the hibachi area and the bar is well stocked and setup nicely.

A small, cozy restaurant that is decorated to full anime vibes: anime art covering the walls from floor to ceiling for favorites like One Piece, Dragon Ball, and many more (how many can you name), dividers, lanterns, cherry blossoms - it's a total vibe! The menu is small, but has a variety from entrees, sushi, noodles, and shareable appetizers. There were specials as well that we took advantage of and ended up with a lot of food. My husband and I shared the Yukitori Platter, something that I haven't seen before on a menu. It's a Japanese street food that has skewered meat. Our platter had chicken, shrimp, beef, pork, and zucchini and each were very good. My husband got the Gyu Don (which is a beef bowl) and for $5 more, he got the set that included three side dishes and a miso soup. I ordered the Shrimp Tempura Udon and made it a Combo for $5 more which included a classic Brown Sugar Bubble Tea and a Pork Bun. I loved my Udon, was flavorful and not too salty. The bubble tea was perfect, even the tapioca pearls weren't too hard or gummy. The service was good, but it was a slow start since there was only one staff member hosting and serving the dining room. It was a little busy with a couple of other tables. The staff were very kind and respectful. The food came out fast after we ordered. Akatsuki is really a hidden gem and it's a must try. My husband and I look forward to returning soon.

The decor was adorable with Dragon Ball Z anime taking over the walls (even in the bathroom). The vibe was comfy and relaxed and cozy. We enjoyed our little private dining area. It was perfect and intimate. As for the food, every bite was perfection. We tried the abalone and pork belly skewers-amazing. We all had ramen. I'm a sucker for Tonkatsu and this one did not disappoint. The broth was rich and delicious. The pork belly bao yum! The edamame! The edamame was like nothing I've ever tried before. It was garlicky and perfectly cooked. We will definitely be back to try more. Thank you Akatsuki!

I got my usual Tonkatsu Ramen, and I'm pretty much gluten-free now so I got it with the rice noodles instead of normal Ramen noodles so not as good as the Ramen noodles but everything else in the soup is great. It's pretty common to get a ton of noodles with Ramen, but I almost wish they could cut them in half and give you more broth. I might try asking for that next time or see if it's an add-on option. We also got the popcorn chicken, the crab Rangoon's, and a spicy crab roll. Crab Rangoon's were some of the best I've ever had with lots of filling in them. Spring rolls really delicious flavor, the spicy crab roll really good and the braised beef Ramen had a nice clove flavor to it. Beef not the best cut of meat. Almost like stew beef? Popcorn chicken pretty flavorful. Could maybe use a sauce with it. They brought out duck sauce for us, but it didn't really go with that chicken. Nice ambience in here. I usually get takeout, but this was my second time dining in and was a nice experience.

Then came the gyudon and it was nearly as I remember from my time in Japan. Very glad they had togarashi as I always enjoy a little extra kick in bowl! To finish had to go with the green tea cheese cake which was also highly recommended by the staff. It hit the spot to close out the meal. After much debating and research, we decided it was finally time to try Hachiroku in New Haven. We already love going to The Loop, let's sit down and eat. Heard lots of positive buzz from fellow Yelpers and foodies, including a previous 2024 New Haven Best Restaurant of the Year at the CRAZIES. All of the accolades and positive reviews are well earned. Cozy and delicious. That's what I'd describe about Hachiroku. The ambiance is cozy regardless if you're sitting at the bar or in the upstairs seating. The food we ordered also had the same vibe. The menu rotates with the seasons and the freshest ingredients which we greatly appreciated and it shows in the tastes. Our seasonal selections that we ordered included Hokkaido scallop and octopus carpaccio with ikura and seaweed and monkfish karaage. The carpaccio had the perfect components to complement each other. The monkfish karaage fully came together between the lemon and the side of pickled radish as well. We also ordered house made fresh tofu and added uni. The staff mentioned "oh it's perfect, it's uni season" which made my day. It was so delicious and my husband who normally doesn't like uni even noticed how fresh it was. We really went wild ordering everything, including the mini Harasu don (teishoku which comes with rice, pickles, and we picked the salad), Black Cod grilled with Yuzu sauce, Yaki Kinoko Mushrooms, and the Kakuni Short Rib (which pairs very well with a side of rice). The most cozy and perfect dish for winter was the seasonal vegetable agedashi. Warm and had a nice variety of vegetables with a vegetable dashi broth that healed the soul. We enjoyed every dish and we noticed already when looking at the menu again there's already so many new items to try. Excellent service and suggestions from the staff (because if we didn't have them, we could've ordered the whole menu in one night). Can't wait to come back and rave about Hachiroku (and its sister stores/restaurants) to everyone!
