The food here is incredible. Whenever it's date night my husband and I always go here! Also really great about allergies! I am allergic to shellfish and my husband is allergic to gluten and they are always amazing about our allergies! My favourite rolls are the rainbow roll or salmon avo roll. The good... We have become regulars to this place now. The service has remained very good and very consistent. The food is very fresh still and now that we have had some time to try out the menu we noticed that there are some strong contenders! The setting is still something to be noted, having some punchy DIY decor that make it interesting such as the thousands of colourful paper cranes strung over the top of the back wall. The bad... I wish there was a ramen soup option. The ugly... There are none. This place is welcoming and warm! Our favourites... Been a full year since I was in Cochrane last. This is still the best sushi place I have found anywhere and I travel all over the country for work. Salmon nigiri is fresh and well cut, the wild rice California rolls are truly like nothing else! So rich and flavourful a definite must try. read more

For a smaller place like Cochrane, I was surprised to find a pretty good Japanese place. I had the Poke Bowl. The presentation was outstanding. The food was fresh and flavourful. Came for dinner right when they opened at 4:30 p.m. last week. Ordered Green Tea to start which was amazing - We ordered assorted plates - California Rolls, Dynamite Rolls, Shrimp Tempura, and Deep Fried California Rolls. Shrimp tempura was tepid. The Deep Fried California Rolls were cut so large it was difficult to get any part of it up to my face. There was also a sweet-chili -esque sauce all over my meal so it was difficult as I am not a fan of that flavour. The Dynamite Rolls were traditional and no complaints there. Waitress was attentive (We were the only table currently in the restaurant) And the Green Tea was restocked plentifully. read more

This business has been there for over a year. Finally went in and tried it out. Our server Chloe, was very happy and helpful. It was my son's 18th birthday and he loves sushi and rolls. The selection is great and the portion size was great. Very flavorful and also a very nice presentation. I would go back anytime and try again. Sakura is one of my favourite sushi restaurants to eat in Calgary and area. I've been fortunate to eat here a few times and now I feel that I can write a proper review, based on my overall experiences and specifically my dining experience from last night. TLDR: the fish is always fresh, the rolls and cooked food are excellent, and the service is very friendly and attentive. Sometimes the place can get busy, but it is absolutely worth it to come here and eat very good food. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the breathtaking decor. A very beautiful, tastefully decorated place with an amazing origami crane wall! Aesthetically, a perfect place for a cute date. Last night, we started with some appetizers of shrimp tempura and battera sushi (a layered, rectangle style of sushi that originates from Osaka). My friend got a special roll, and I chose some select nigiri. They mentioned that they had uni that day, to which we immediately ordered two each. - The tempura was a DREAM to eat!! Oh my god, it was cooked perfectly. The shrimp was cooked just right and was soft and juicy inside the crispy/fluffy (is that possible??) batter. - The battera sushi (we got salmon and mackerel) was delicious. You could see the layers of all the ingredients clearly, and it held itself together with each melt-in-your-mouth bite. - My nigiri was excellent. Fresh fish with generous portions. I loved and savoured each bite. The uni was excellent!! - My friend's roll was also really, really, really good. He got something with cream cheese, avocado, eel sauce and mango sauce, and salmon I think. Honestly, I do not enjoy cream cheese rolls myself, but I gave it a try and I was pleasantly surprised to find that my mouth was not punched with an overwhelming cream cheese flavour! (which is what I dislike about them) The cream cheese was a nice subtle accent on the roll as a whole. Would recommend! We also had a cold sake to drink, I don't remember which it was exactly, but it was enhanced with flavours of yuzu. It was like an adult's lemonade, super tasty! This place was not packed when we walked in. The menu was very different than what we are used to. The service was slow, not impressive at all. We had to ask for things more than once. Great addition to the Cochrane dining scene. Terrific menu with something for everyone. Fresh, excellent flavors and eye pleading presentation. Prices are extremely reasonable and the food is great. The staff are very friendly and attentive making your experience memorable. Also it's a family run stand alone so it's good to support a truly local business. It's definitely worth repetitive visits. Pay attention to the very colourful origami display that's featured above the prep area, as it's hand made by one of the owners and took her 3 months to complete. read more

We ate here last night. I have had sushi in many places including Nobu, this definitely is one of the worst. I had the Rainbow sushi plate and there was barely enough fish on each roll to taste. It looked like one shrimp was flattened out and sliced to make 4 rolls. Safeway puts these rolls to shame. The spicy Pork Bulgogi was so hot it ruined the meal. This needs to be pared back slightly. Every dish that looked interesting had imitation crab as its main ingredient. This place is just a fast food diner and not a good one. read more

Sushi in Cochrane is tough to find. This place has great service, attentive staff and delicious food. We tried rolls, sashimi and nigiri and love them all. When we walked in it felt as in we were in downtown Calgary. We def will be back soon. read more
