Mio Stone Grill & Sushi is a slightly ostentatious name for this nice little Japanese restaurant in Aidrie. Granted, my meal was all "sushi" and no "grill" ... so you may also have to look at other reviews that consider other parts of the menu. As usual, I ordered miso soup; edemame; red tuna and salmon sashimi; avocado/asparagus rolls; and the Ocean Surprise Rolls (which adds tempura crunch to an otherwise normal roll). Overall: Good sushi, pleasant staff, no complaints or criticisms at all. The food came fast and tasted good. It wasn't particularly crowded, but I attended on a snowy Thursday night in the 'burbs. Mio is not a fancy place, but the food is definitely good. The price was very reasonable. Go if you're in the area.

We decided to try a restaurant in Airdrie, and after hearing some good reviews - decided on Mio sushi and stone grill. Atmosphere: 4/5 Overall clean, modern, and quiet on a weekday evening. Spacious interior. Plenty of parking available. Food: 4/5 There were a number of menu options. Since the restaurant was named after its stone grill, we decided to give it a try. The stone grill was definitely a neat way to cook food, although I have yet to figure out how the stone is kept hot enough for the duration of time that we had been cooking. There were a few sauces that came with the grill that are used after food is cooked. We also had some sushi which were fresh and delicious, as well as salad, miso soup, and ended with green tea / vanilla ice cream. Overall an interesting and satisfying meal! Service: 4/5 Attentive and friendly service Price: 3/5 Reasonable prices Overall: 4/5 This was an interesting stone grill experience in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. I would return to try some of their other menu items.

Spectacular service. Amazing servers and the food was great! Great pricing, selection is also great. I was particular fond of the deep fried soft shell crab! We ordered party platter B and it was generously portioned. Servers were very attentive and always had smiles on their faces. Great atmosphere! Definitely going back again soon!

    Delicious oysters!

Wow!!! This place was delicious, I'm already dreaming of the next visit. Mio is definitely out of the way if you aren't in the Airdrie/crossiron mall area. The sushi was fresh, fairly good size, and presented very well. The sushi is a little pricer compared to some other places in Calgary but well worth the difference. The one thing I would recommend everyone get is the creamy udon! Its was something I would never would have though of getting until my friend forced us to try it. The service was excellent and attentive and even for a Tuesday it was pretty full place. Go out and try this place, you won't regret it. Happy munching!

    Very generous sunomono salad.

We stumbled upon this Japanese restaurant while driving by a plaza in South Airdrie. It turned out to be a great dinner and value. We started off with prawn sunomono salad that was a very generous portion, as was the miso soup. My only criticism of the dinner was the sunomono as the liquid was very intense and to my taste, should have been thinned way out to reduce the vinegar sweet/sour intensity. We ordered the stone grill dinner. The server brings a hot rock slab to your table with 8 oz of various meats such as lamb, beef, prawn, scallop and salmon. You smear butter on the stone which is sizzling hot and then place your cut up meats on the slab and wait 3 or 4 minutes for them to cook. The stone dinner included miso soup and a tasty salad. There were 3 dipping sauces included with the entree which were good to very good. They included a spicy mayo, steak sauce and teriyaki sauce. I felt the steak sauce could have been a bit better, but it was decent. We had some salmon sushi that was very creamy in texture and excellent and sesame ice cream that my wife liked a lot and she thought was an excellent alternative to the usual dessert options. The atmosphere is very nice and service was great. We'd be happy to return to this great restaurant whenever in the area.

Their sushis and sashimi are awesome. Their customer service is excellent. I am highly recommend this place. They made their soy sauce in house. Their soy sauce is so good. I even bought some soy sauce home.

    The "Tempura Yam fries"?

What a pleasant surprise when we walked into this gem knowing nothing about it. We were simply looking for a nice sit down meal with our 3 year old. The restaurant is very pleasant and trendy with a comfortable feel. The temperature of the restaurant could have been a little bit warmer though as I was chilly. Our server was efficient and pleasant. She brought what could only be best described as a plate of tempura yam fries with an incredible sauce lightly sprinkled "complementary". It was very good! My wife and I ordered the hot stone, a 400C stone to cook on with a side of raw shrimp, beef, lamb, scallops and salmon. You only get 8oz of meat total but with the salad, Miso soup and desert it was a perfect amount for us all for $25 ea. My son had rice. The meal was great, the service was great and the atmoshere here was good. I would give it 4.5 out of 5 if I could but I definitely error on the side of a 5.

Lives up to all it's other Yelp reviews. A quaint family restaurant with the common sushi offerings and a few surprises too. We had the party tray B and dinner on rock, as well as a couple other dishes. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and at a great price too. Customer service is excellent, the people who run it are fast and cheerful. Will definitely come back!

Individual sushi and a Philadelphia roll and a small hamachi roll.

One of the ones that came up was this place. D and I agreed it was definitely a sushi night, and since he trusted her opinion on food we thought we'd give it a try. It was a quiet night there, which was good for us, only a couple of tables were filled, and honestly the first thing I noticed was the crazy colours of the labradorite flecks in the table surface. The tabletops are beautiful! At the right angle there were crazy hits of blue, green and gold that were unmistakably labradorite. Beautiful. Anyway we shared a pot of tea, which was delicious and very hot. D had a miso soup and 2 pcs of Unagi to start. I tried a sip of the soup and it was very fresh, nice flavour, not overly salty like some miso soups, and looked like it had just the right amount of tofu. I didn't try the unagi, it's good but doesn't always sit well with me afterwards (I've been afraid to have it since an incident in Vancouver - long story involving a long drive). My starter was a plate of beef tataki. I haven't had that in a long time, since it's normally quite expensive, but the portion size more than made up for it here and it was delicious. The beef had had just a touch of heat around the outside so it was deliciously rare throughout, the spicy sauce was amazing, and I had to restrain myself from licking the plate. We shared a Crispy California Roll that was almost as good as our favourite place in Vancouver so I'll be ordering those every time for sure - it's all in the unagi sauce they drizzle on top. It seriously makes all the difference in the flavour! It was so good I ordered a second one at the end. The other dish we shared was a Delicate Roll which is a really nice variation on a Philadelphia Roll but with a few additions. It was fresh, the salmon was delicious, and the avocado was just right. I'm not sure about the mayo drizzle on top but I didn't mind it. Next time I plan on trying the tempura, and honestly I think the only thing they're missing is a Las Vegas Roll...I'd eat there every week if they had that too! Our server was great, very chatty and totally familiar with the sushi we're used to since she was from the same area. All in all it was a pleasant experience in a clean, friendly setting and we left stuffed. I can't wait to go back for more.

We made a reservation several days before and on the day of, the reservation was mysteriously canceled. Quickly we made another reservation hoping this one wouldn't be cancelled. Arriving at the restaurant, we were immediately seated and then waited for almost 15 minutes before the server even came to take our drink order/food (4 x Ramen bowls, 2 x Udon bowls). As we waited, three groups who sat after us received both their drinks and food before we had received just our drinks (Bottle of Sake, a coke, a ginger ale and momoyoi). Two small groups has completely finished their meals before we had received our soup bowls. This ended with us finally getting our bill with the surprise of an automatic gratuity of 18%. We were told by the server several times that 18% was added to groups over 6, we we pointed out that we were a group of 6, she restated the 18% gratuity was for "6 or more".
