This location is a total disaster. The customer service is slow, ignorant, and downright negligent. After a long wait and no checkups, the staff act like they can't be bothered doing their jobs. It is clear that management does not provide any training or supervision. This level of incompetence does not just happen. Let us discuss the mood. This is disgusting. I have heard enough about the cockroach problem in the building and management not doing anything that I really lost my appetite sitting there. If there is chatter about pests in a restaurant and nothing changes, that's a huge red flag. Especially for a place that should meet baseline AHS standards. They managed poorly the service was also not good. Countless sushi spots in Calgary don't leave you wondering about hygiene, safety, and life choices, and most are better than this one. Forgot what we got but the food was good given the price. It's quite filling. Not great sushi but also not bad. It's more of a you get what you pay for kinda thing but it's not bad at all. It's not bad quality just not something great. Service was great. I did get a rice bowl too which I don't have a photo of -- but it was served slow ish. Probably because it's not their specialty/ best seller? Ambiance wise super cute you should see their washrooms haha!!! It's so cute with all the picture frames and stuff !! Loved having dinner at this restaurant. Inside is very bright and lively, we loved the store-like feel near the entrance with all of the dessert and snack items. Our server was very nice and attentive during our visit. I ordered the Garlic Deluxe Ramen with some additional Rainbow sushi rolls. The ramen was yummy--the broth was savory and creamy. I truly love going to Kinjo Sushi and it's become one of my favourite sushi restaurants! Definitely would recommend trying it out next time you crave some sushi. Note: they don't take recommendations which at times can be a bit irritating since they may not have space and you'll have to wait, but other than that it's great. I have been going for quite some time and although I wish they still gave out free pokies after the meal, they do still sell them which is nice. First off, they don't take reservations. Getting that out of the way, this location has a big space so there shouldn't be too much of a wait should you need to wait for a table. There's a lot of stuff going on with regards to the decor of the restaurant. They have a Japanese market at the front of the restaurant with a lot of snacks or grab and go boxes which are a pretty good deal if you've gotta be places and can't sit and eat. There's art lining the walls in the entire space. Lots of colour, light, it's just a lot to take in. They also have an open kitchen and a bar opposite of the kitchen. It's a fun atmosphere, good for casual dates or small get togethers. It is a bit loud but that's to be expected of a large space like this restaurant. As for the food, most of the sushi, sashimi, and rolls we tried were great. Very fresh ingredients, good proportions of topping vs rice and very tasty. I also recommend getting their bubble teas, for $3 even though it's powdered mix it's a great deal. Tempura is always a hit and comes hot and fresh from the fryer, very good crisp and not overly battered. I also had the regular shoyu ramen, exactly what you'd expect from a ramen bowl where you get your choice of either ramen or udon noodles. They have a deluxe option for the noodles which I might try next time. They also offer a mini version for a lesser cost if you just want a taste of ramen but not a whole bowl. Staff checked up on us often and were very helpful despite being busy. Kinjo has a few locations around Calgary so experience may vary but I'd be hard pressed not to believe that other locations aren't equally as good. Decided to go to Kinjo for my 50th birthday with my daughter. Sat down at the table and it was missing half of the things that are supposed to be on it. Things like bowls for sushi, napkins a pencil for ordering. My daughter ordered the broccoli tempura which was overcooked and burnt the teriyaki beef looked like a half portion. My lobster roll was good but my special scallop tasted a little weird. The other roll was not even cut all the way through, pulling a second piece on the table when I picked one up. I guess we'll find out later how I feel. Honestly, if this was the first time I came here, I would not come back. My 50th birthday celebration was a let down and disappointment. I always order from Kinjo at District when we come to Calgary. The prices are unreal and they're even lower when you order online for pick up! They also have fun souvenirs here too. The dining room was busy when we came in Sunday afternoon to pick up our order. They have shelves at the front for all their pick up orders as well. This place is a well oiled machine! This time I ordered 4 orders of the Black Stone rolls ($10.39) and 2 orders of the Tiger roll ($10.39). This was enough sushi for 2 meals for 2 people. The stuffing of the rolls is a lot of salmon for the price so I highly recommend this place for their value. I also ordered a mini spicy miso ramen ($3) and added 1/2 a soft boiled egg ($0.55) to it. The total of my order came to $69.13. That was with the discount for ordering online and picking it up. Delicious, fast, easy ordering, and great bang for your buck!! read more

This Kinjo is huge! I am always blown away by the size of it when stepping inside, and am always surprised when I see the second floor. They have really nice decor as well and everything is very clean and tidy here. The front is a bit cluttered with all of their new additions but it isn't something that bugs me in particular. It may be a little hard for people with wheelchairs to access, but I think there may be a way through that I just haven't noticed. Food is always good and the staff are always nice. I even dropped something at my table once and the staff ran out into the parking lot just to return it to me, and it was only a hair accessory. Came to Kinjo on a Sunday for Lunch... hadn't been to this location, and quite frankly was shocked by the size of this place. Had been to the Kinjo on McLeod and this one is easily 3-4 times the size. Upon entering this very airy and open restaurant, we were greeted by a host. Lead to a booth and was left a couple of menus and the order sheet. Having been to the McLeod location many times I knew the drill. Look thru the menu, order on the sheet. Our server was by shortly and she recognized me from the other location. She was very helpful as well. Decided we'd go with the Volcano Roll, Mango Roll, Avocado Roll, and Magic Steak. The restaurant was not busy, and so our food was out to us in no time. I've had the Magic Steak and the Volcano Rolls many times in the past. proven winners, the mango and avocado rolls didn't disappoint either. Overall, great service and solid sushi ! Loved our experience here! We ordered an assortment of food from the Benihana roll, to tempura avocado, to chicken fried rice. All delicious. Our 1 yr old decided to have a fit once we placed her in the high hair the staff immediately came over and brought her a cute fruit tray carved out as a monkey and some sweet cookies. The food is excellent! I usually order either a sashimi or a combo platter depending on the occasion for takeout. The only reason for the 4 and not a 5 is that the takeout wasabi leaves a lot to be desired. Mainly because it contains zero wasabi. The horse radish mixture is only hot without any of the delicate flavors you expect from wasabi. It's a bit of a shame to pair well made sushi and sashimi with this horseradish substitute. read more

My friends and I come here on the suggestion of one of the people in our group since it was relatively close to our hotel by the airport. Upon getting here, we were taken aback as the building inside and out looked VERY elegant and well decorated, I got a little angry at our friend that suggested it since I thought it was gonna cost us an ear and leg to eat lunch, but I was definitely wrong! When the 6 of us sat down and took a look at the menu, we saw that the prices for the sushi, rolls, and overall everything on the menu was cheaper than stuff in edmonton! I was super excited by now since I hadn't had sushi in a long time. We started off with a few bottles of warm sake, WHICH BY THE WAY IS MUCH BETTER AND EASIER TO DRINK WHEN COLD!!!! (I don't drink often) I then started ordering things from rolls, to tempura, to teriyaki and the works. The food came out timely and the server we had we great as she kept making sure we were good and the alcohol kept coming to our table. By the end of the lunch, all of us were stuffed to the brim and our server was still very courteous and kind even if we were a little inebriated :( The bill came to about $300 with 6-9 bottles of sake, and 25+ things off the menu to feed 6 hungry people. Large resturaunt with lots of seating and a bar area. Waiters could use some work on friendliness but the food came in a speedy fashion so it kind of balances out. I would recommend the tiger roll (unagi + salmon sashimi, would ask for less dressing/sauce next time though) and the black miso cod (deliciousness, but would ask for it to be fried in less oil next time as well). I was disappointed by their pressed sushi (oishi), which I had fell in love with at the famous Miku in Vancouver, as it lacked in flavor (even the avocado in the middle was skimpy). Other people in my party got the chicken udon and ramen which both were smaller than I expected but I think they said they tasted ok. We also got the garlic string beans which were good but like the miso cod, a bit oily so keep that in mind if that's an issue. All in all, it wasn't a bad experience but because I came here for the pressed sushi, I was a bit disappointed but I was pleasantly pleased with other menu items. read more

Very unique for a Japanese restaurant. Looks very upscale from outside and inside, but don't let that fool you into thinking pricey. We waited about 15 minutes before we sat down, but that was plenty of time for us to marked down what we wanted from the ordering sheet. Once we handed our order, food was quick to show up. The bluefin tuna cutting show is a fun experience! ... Well, unless you're a vegetarian... The best part is eating it after they cut it! (order from the Bluefin tuna menu) New place is huge, and is very open (which can get a bit loud). Bluefin tuna show is every Thursday @ 6:30 but they take the fish out at around 6:00pm. It's a good idea to make reservations close to the the cutting table if you want to get up close and personal with the fish, but once they start cutting everyone stands up anyways. They do allow some photo opportunities with the fish prior to cutting. Super fun experience!! read more

This restaurant is a unique experience, ambiance questionable however the food is high quality considering the circus you are sitting in. The food was great- fresh sushi for a reasonable price, as with the other Kinjo locations. I don't love the setup of this location- it's HUGE but the setup makes it very loud even when there aren't too many guests and it's hard to get the server's attention if you need something. Like others have mentioned, they only give pocky to the ladies which honestly just seems unnecessary??? and if you're going to do it, at least make the execution funny LOL. It just ends up being awkward when the guys ask and the servers say no and walk away. read more

This place use to be my go-to, but recently they disabled allowing you to order pick-up through skip the dishes. Okay. No problem, it looks like they now have you do that directly through their website. Cool. I tried using that today and it gave both my husband and I the same error when we tried to pay when ordering. Okay, no problem, I guess we will call them. So I tried calling them and they told me that to order pickup I had to use their site. I explained to one person that I had tried and it didn't work. He passed me off to another person who I had to explain the same thing to. She wanted me to send them a screenshot of the error. I just wanted to order some food! I expressed that but she seemed insistent I use their website. I gave up and we decided to order from another restaurant. Where they took my order over the phone without any issue . Been to this place in the past. Don't hate this place but don't love it either. Nothing special for me to come back for, here is just average sushi. Food was tasted fresh and look frest but I came here when it was first open in the NW, it was close to my house and we heard of a new sushi place that just open and hoping it would have amazing sushi but I never came back since. The was very spacious, a lot of seating, it is one of the biggest sushi place I've been to in Calgary or been too. I don't think I've seen anything quite as big, only at at an all- u-can eat buffet that I find big but this place isn't an all-you-can eat place and it was quite expensive. I struggle with this review because I have to give an honest rating based on my experience and I love the Macleod location so I will just not be back to this one. The restaurant had the feel of a cafeteria or food court since it is really wide open with lots of tables and chairs lined up. With no soft furnishings such as booths the place echos and even with the restaurant only being about 1/3 full it was difficult to hear. The food didn't feel fresh and like it had been made hours earlier than when we ate it. The rice on the plates of 4 sushi rolls stuck together like they had been assembled for hours on end. Our waitress was pleasant but didn't come around a lot so there were a few items we were short on. Whoever designed this place must have split personalities! The front is all decked out in a Japanese theme and then? They have Picasso prints hanging on every inch of every wall. I don't understand the correlation... We been to this location many times. The food is ok but expensive for what you get. Service is always good however the noise level is very loud. If it's not busy you can here the music blaring above you. Use to love this place especially getting the free pocky and free samples but there's less expensive places out there to eat. read more
