We see this restaurant every time we are across the street at another place. On Sunday for dinner we decided to try it. And we are so glad we did. Service was really good. We came at 8p but didn't feel rushed throughout (they close at 9p). There is plenty of parking and inside is nicely decorated. My son got his Tonkotsu Ramen (of course). Broth was good. It had Naruto which he hadn't had in awhile but it didn't come with an egg. For the table we got Deluxe Sashimi, Large Sushi Combo, Special rolls Mango Paradise, Calgary Roll, and Rainbow roll. Decided to upsize them for $3 more which is a great value as the rolls were huge! In hindsight we probably should have canceled the sushi combo because we upsized the rolls. Also, I think next time I will get different rolls while the toppings were different the inside of the roll was California (so similar). The food tasted great and looked great as you can see from the photos. Service was great - super friendly. We definitely will come back although it's a bit of a trek for us. read more

After a massage me and my roommate were looking for a place to get food, and I needed something quick to go. She and I saw this small Sushi place, at first I thought to myself that it was going to be a slower more restaurant establishment, but while this is true they also offered sushi to go. If I ever get the chance I would like to actually sit down and eat as the people working here were friendly, and the ambiance was positively Cozy. For now I think a 4.5/5.00 stars is pretty generous. It could drop or go up depending on the food and if I ever get to come back. read more

The restaurant was packed for dinner! We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table to become available. The food came out fairly fast after we ordered. For some reason, the soy sauce was very salty to the taste. I then asked for the low sodium soy sauce, which was oddly even MORE salty than the regular one! It was hard to enjoy the entire meal because of this. :( Tempura yam roll: Very large and filling, but felt dry. The eel sauce was salty and not that sweet. Caterpillar roll: Delicious and filling, would recommend :) Miso soup: Super yummy, and was served at the perfect eating temperature. I believe this is a somewhat newer restaurant, so once they make their processes more efficient to reduce wait times and increase the quality of their ingredients, it would earn a higher rating from me. Amazing customer service! I called in placed an order and I was taking very long to decide what to order because it was my first time and the person working there was so patient! She didn't rush me she offered me some great suggestions to try. I ended up ordering $160 worth of sushi. 10/10 customer service. They are SOOO GENEROUS!!! Every sashimi was like triple the size of what you would normally get!!! You could slice it into 3! Even their nigiri the fish on top was double the size of usual! They even gave 2 hamachi on the house and left us a cute note. You can tell this owner really cares about their customers. I will definitely be coming back and recommending them. read more

Decided to finally try Sushi Ai for lunch after they've taken over Ajisai for some time now. I recognized at least one of the former staff working in the kitchen but I'm not that surprised. There were six tables of customers when we arrived, but service was pretty quick. I decided to get the sushi and sashimi combo while my toddler got the ramen with gyoza combo. Their menu has quite the roll selection but I don't like my rolls deep fried or served with sauces - however if that is your thing then come for it! My lunch came pretty quickly and was a generous portion. Sashimi was fresh though one of my tuna pieces was a tad chewy. California roll had the creamy fake crab mixture which was delicious. The tonkotsu ramen had great flavors without being too salty and had a lot of vegetables in it - I think they could put some more pork belly slices in there as the two that were in there were fairly thin, and no egg was included. Overall I would come back for their sushi and other items - note that they have both Japanese and Korean cuisine. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by how good this neighborhood gem is. The prices aren't bad and the quality is solid. I followed my streak of getting tonkatsu and got it this time again for $12.95. It came with a bowl of rice, miso soup, salad and some steak/mayo sauce. The pork wasn't overly dry, or greasy and the portions were plentiful. My husband ordered a spicy tuna roll, and a rainbow roll. I felt the rainbow roll could've been topped with more fish, but it was made very nicely. The spicy tuna roll came with a side of spicy sweet sauce which is not my cup of tea, but it could be yours! My qualms about their rolls are due to my own personal preferences but I could tell that quality craftsmanship by the chef was put into them. Overall, this is a good spot to go to if you're in the deep north. I only wish I discovered them sooner! read more

Great service, great food- and an option I've been asking for! We had lovely sushi- Philly roll, some nigiri and a cucumber roll. All was quite fresh and nice. But we also got a yam tempura! Yam tempura is both our favorite and with most places, we are always grumbling through all the asparagus and then having to split the one yummy yam. This was 4 big slices of yam and nothing but yam! Overall pretty stoked about my first sushi meal in Calgary after moving from Vancouver, where we are spoiled with high quality, inexpensive sushi. Price seems normal for Calgary, though high by Vancouver standards. I was fine with it, though, since all the fish was very fresh! Salmon sashimi was very yummy and nice, large pieces too. Alaska roll was delicious and one of my favs in general. A couple minor points, sushi roll pieces were cut waaay too thick and in general they could've been a little more generous with the avocado. For the price point, I expect nice thick chunks and slices not tiny pieces and thin slivers. read more

We have been coming here for years (when it was Ajisai and Sushi Ai). Some of the staff remains there after the change and it's always a pleasure to see them. The sushi is reasonably priced and the food is consistent and good. There's tons of rolls and other items to choose from. My only criticism would be that they use a lot of mango and very sweet sauces in their items and I'd prefer to see more savory flavors. I wish they would add salmon skin sushi to the menu as well. This used to be the Ajisai restaurant that have been in business for a number of years in Panorama Hills. It looks like new owners took over and has a new menu. We came here for a Saturday lunch so we really did not explore the menu much. My wife had the shrimp teriyaki lunch combo and I had the sushi bento. Both were well made and the portions were good. The miso soup included with our order was okay except they put a bit too much green onions in the soup. The rice on the nigiri and California roll were packed a little be too tight for my liking. I prefer the rice to be a bit looser but without danger of falling apart... it is a delicate balance. The meal was nothing spectacular but the raw fish on the sushi seemed fresh which they should be in any sushi place. The service was friendly. I give this restaurant a solid 3.5 stars (rounded up to 4 start). I look forward to trying other things on the menu in another visit and update my review at that time. read more

We got take out on a Sunday. We got the sushi special, negi toro roll, special scallop roll and a California roll. The one star rating is due to the freshness of the fish/ scallop topped with the at least one day old rice. We won't be going back even though this place is two mins away. read more

This has be our all time favourite place. My husband got so excited just by seeing how it was served. He is very fussy on where he eats sushi and likes good quality. He says this is the first place he has been in Calgary that gives you quality and presentation that he has found closet to Japan. Helps that the chef is actually properly trained.
