I ordered omakase. Chef Koji Kobayan created an epic meal for us. We ate so many things, so I'm just going to highlight a few dishes. We tried the Rice Cracker with Deep Fried Salmon, Potato Salad and Yam Crisp. The crunch of the batter against the soft creaminess of the potato salad was killer. The salmon itself was flavourful, made even more richer with Koji's special homemade teriyaki sauce. Our fourth course was the Matsutake Soup with Crab. The soup arrived boiling hot. The broth was clear and clean, which allowed the subtle flavours of the crab and mushrooms to shine. The wild BC pine mushrooms were thinly sliced, with a fragrance similar to sake. Drinking this soup felt so nourishing - simple but refine. A4 Wagyu Nigiri. The wagyu was torched and and then a ton of black truffles was shaved on top. The flavour of the truffles was gentle and earthy. The texture was feathery and light. Seared, the wagyu gave off a mouthwatering smoky flavour. I loved the crunch of the salt. I thought this was an elegant bite. My favourite course was the Lemon Dengaku. Dengaku is similar to a cheesy seafood motoyaki but a billion times better. Half a lemon was filled with mussels, crab, scallops, asparagus, enoki, and matsutake mushrooms, then baked with a creamy, sweet miso sauce. The flavour and freshness of the the seafood wowed me. The sauce had the perfect amount of saltiness in it. The lemon wasn't overpowering - just enough to perfume each bite. Koji created a beautiful platter of nigiri for us. This was an advanced sushi tasting. Each nigiri pairing was an adventure. The bluefin chu toro was topped with sturgeon caviar. I liked how the salty pop of caviar mingled in with the fatty creaminess of the toro. The "Mother and Child" sockeye with ikura and chrysanthemum petals was another winning salty, creamy combination. The hamachi (yellowtail) was juicy. I found the lime zest with the kanpachi subtle. The cuttlefish had a pleasant crunchy texture. The bluefin tuna in the negitori with shredded kombu was soft and buttery. Totally worth it and then some. If I were in Japan, our bill would have been four times as much. In Vancouver, at least double. Sukiyaki House imports a lot of their seafood from Japan and source some of the freshest seafood, which makes sense why the food is even better than I can get in Vancouver.

This is one of the better sushi restaurant in town. I came here and tried the lunch bento box for $25. It came with soup and salad, choice of beef or salmon, assorted chef special sushi and prawns. I loved it. Its definitely one of the better sushi that I have ever had in Calgary. The sushi came out fresh. The salad is unique and tasty. The roasted walnut bits are glazed in sweet honey which made it unique. The salmon was nice even though the piece is small. Loved the miso soup. It had lots of seaweed (I like seaweed) and tofu. You can tell that they made it in house. This sushi restaurant is comparable to the restaurants in Vancouver. (Never been to Japan so don't know if its comparable there). The restaurant is quite small and you definitely will need to make a reservation (if not you might have a chance at the bar high chair). Atmosphere clean and trendy décor. Highly recommend coming here. Loved their Japanese food!

I've been here a few times and their food never disappoints. Their menu is simple, food is delicious and definitely authentic. Pricing is on the higher end side but it is justified due to the quality and presentation of the food. If you're looking for authentic Japanese cuisine with spectacular service, come here. Their sushi is ultra fresh and carefully prepared, and I also highly recommend their tempura!

I remember this place back in High School as a real step outside the nine dots, and something I didn't want to return to. 30 years later, I have gotten a little smarter. Thankfully. Went in with a friend last week. This is good Japanese food. Traditional. No stupid roll combos, cheese sushi, or other silliness. Just high quality ingredients offered in simple, perfect presentations. Suzuki is served here, you don't see that everywhere. It was delicious. Ditto the Gyu-niku Tataki. Nigiri sushi was flawless. Matched beautifully with a Daiginjo. Yum. Chef Kobayashi performed a little Katsuramaki (peeling into thin sheets) on a cucumber after lunch, with a big Hochou, had to be 14" long. You don't see that around here much either. Nice to see that level of skill. If you love pure Japanese, this is a good choice, and a good value. Nice people too. I'll be going to one of their Keiseki events for sure.

Amazing food, quality and service. We tried the special Hokkaido Hot Pot, Wagyu Beef Tataki, Spicy Salmon Roll and Dragon Roll. All were super tasty but the highlight for us was definately the Wagyu Beef Tataki.

Christine L. referred me to the Sukiyaki House. Definitely was not disappointed. Ordered Seafood Sunomono, Sashimi Dinner and Rice. My friend ordered the Chicken Teriyaki. Our miso soup to start was delicious. The salads had a nice light sauce that was very tasty. The seafood was one of the best dinners I have had, the seafood is actually tasty which is unlike landlocked Alberta. My friend really enjoyed the chicken teriyaki. We polished off our dinner with an amazing mochi dessert. Oh yum it was simply delicious. The restaurant has a nice clean ambience. You will certainly not regret eating here if you like fresh tasty seafood. The owners and staff are super friendly too! Be sure to make reservations, this is not the kind of restaurant you can walk in and automatically assume you will get a table. Last night was very busy with the upcoming 4 week dining in restrictions taking place after closing tonight.

The food was amazing their service was NOT. Especially their wagyu beef tataki and their tuna carpaccio + tataki. The mushroom miso was also delicious. Their fish taste super fresh and high quality. However I cannot say the same for their staff and service. My friend was seated for 10 mins before they finally served her water while she waited for me to arrive she only received the water and service after I arrived. We had to wave down a waiter to take away the plates we had already finished and he did not care to take them all only a couple and did not hear us saying excuse me! Our original waitress was done her shift and did NOT even inform so we were looking for our waitress and trying to wave down some service to order dessert until we asked one of the other waitresses to get our waitress to only be told in a rude tone "she already went home for the day"... ok??? So we then asked her ok so are you our waitress now? And she said in an unpleasant tone "ya" didn't seem like she wanted to serve us. Our friends noticed the bad attitude and couldn't believe how bad the service was here. No one came to ask us once "how was the food" "is everyone ok" "do you guys need anything else" when we had no more tea and water we had to wave down for more service once again.. I hope they teach their staff or replace them. I would only come back for the food if someone really wanted to try this place but I'm not going to promote this place or suggest it to any of my friends.

Amazing. The Toro is Fresh and goes down your mouth like butter. A little thinly sliced though.

2.5 STARS I totally dig the ambiance... It's a cross between modern and minimalist with a hint of Asian vibe. I could imagine closing the place up and throwing a dinner party here with an open sake bar. We came here and the place was dead. We were greeted by the hostess and got seated right away. Glasses of water were delivered right away as well..which is good. Looking at the sushi list. It wasn't at all impressive. There were a lot of rolls that contained cooked seafood. In my book. You are not a legit Japanese 'SUSHI" restaurant without all the yummy RAW FISH. My excitement died...so we just ordered something minimal... (Trust me, i go all out at a japanese restaurant..first time in my life my table only consisted of one makimono roll) *Beef Tataki: thinly sliced seared beef tenderloin topped with garlic chips and a citrus soy vinaigrette. I totally loved how the meat was perfectly seared. It was red and thinly sliced, and easy to eat. It was so addicting, I wanted to order a second plate. The only thing is... the vinaigrette sauce isn't that balanced. It was too much on the acidic side. a dash of sugar in the sauce would have done the trick. or some Sherry wine. *Organic Miso Soup: A bit bland. The addition of mushrooms was an excellent choice. Didn't get much tofu and seaweed on my bowl though..which I usually expect in my miso. *Toro Sashimi: ooooh. we got lucky as we got the last 2 slices. They were TOO THIN. I know Toro is the most expensive fish out there... but don't be all cheap with it. People who will order Toro will know they would have to pay at least $12 for 2 slices. So oomph it up a little bit. *Prawn Tempura Dynamite: Eh. didn't do much for me. It's such a kindergarten roll. Nothing fancy. If you're a sushi newbie, or a sushi scaredy cat... come here and practice on their "cooked" rolls... however..if you're a sushi monster like myself... don't even try.

Teriyaki chicken with vegetables, vegetable tempura, gyoza and Waldorf salad. It was all delicious!!
