This review is for the Beltline location as Yelp doesn't seem to have the location: My family went for my daughters Birthday. It all started with the reservation. We made a reservation several days before and on the day of, the reservation was mysteriously canceled. Quickly we made another reservation hoping this one wouldn't be cancelled. Arriving at the restaurant, we were immediately seated and then waited for almost 15 minutes before the server even came to take our drink order/food (4 x Ramen bowls, 2 x Udon bowls). As we waited, three groups who sat after us received both their drinks and food before we had received just our drinks (Bottle of Sake, a coke, a ginger ale and momoyoi). Two small groups has completely finished their meals before we had received our soup bowls. This ended with us finally getting our bill with the surprise of an automatic gratuity of 18%. We were told by the server several times that 18% was added to groups over 6, we we pointed out that we were a group of 6, she restated the 18% gratuity was for "6 or more". Unfortunately, this isn't stated anywhere in the website, see attached picture. Food: My ramen was adequate, not terrible but not great as well. Wakado, Jinya, Shiki Menya are better options

I'm impressed by how delicious and high quality this sushi is. It is not in downtown Calgary, in fact, a bit far. Definitely not a place tourists would find themselves in but it's worth going out of your way for. The sushi is that good!! The assorted sashimi platter included their house aged fish, which you can see on display when you walk in. Decor and ambience are very *fancy* Miso aburi salmon was melt in your mouth. This was my favourite dish. Wagyu tartar was the best I've ever had as well. I felt the price was fair too. The tonkotsu ramen my partner and I both felt was too watery. It lacked body, salt, and flavour. Flavour is very delicate/mild with a bit of fish taste. Also it only came with 1 thin slice of meat and half an egg. I felt this ramen was overpriced to what I'm used to, especially for the watered down broth. Overall, just come here for the sushi!

New York Quality Sushi!! WoW Best Sushi In Canada!!! FOOD: 5 (Amazing Sushi) SERVICE: 5 (Fast and Friendly) DECOR: 5 (Beautiful interior design) I can't wait to try aged fish next time! Each fished is aged in a different time period. Wasn't ready when I was there.

As a Yank from the states one needs to remember the axiom that Canadians are not yelpers hence the low number of reviews when traveling through Canada. Ryuko Japanese cuisine once again was a great choice that my nephew recommended. Located in a unassuming building which from the outside does not look like the makings of a sushi restaurant. Everything was great with the wagyu cooked over a hot stone being a hit as I have previously experienced this at other restaurants. Another great find was for me to try the roll that had asparagus in it as I have never been a fan of this veggie. Combined with the other ingredients, one does not really taste the asparagus but when taking your first bite it gives the roll a nice "crunch" combined with the fish and other ingredients. a return visit to this place is definitely warranted on my return.

Went for brunch and overall taste was great! Banana waffles were a bit heavy for our preference. The Tamago Benedict and Choushoku Tray were both good, but the tray I thought was a bit overpriced for what you get. Yuzu mocktail was too sweet in my opinion. We will probably go back to try their dinner menu.

I don't know where you can find a more elegant lunch in this city for under $20. This is excellent value. Terrific food, great service, beautiful room. This is our 4th time here, more to come.

    Tonkotsu Ramen

My wife and I dined at Ryuko South for the first time on March 2nd. We had the Magurocamole as a shared appetizer (nice feature to have a little dry ice come out of the glassware), then we both had the Tonkotsu Ramen (delicious broth and fresh ingredients) and shared the Ikageso Roll (large sized rolls with fresh ingredients. In Young was our attentive server. We highly recommend Ryuko South and, most definitely, we will be back again.

Calgarys best sushi without a doubt. Service always on point and the sushi rice is always fresh. Great cuts of fish from Japan !!

Wagyu beef tartare with taro chips

New resto in canyon meadows that is clean, modern and has high quality fish! They opened only 2 weeks ago and we sat by a window that opens (gasp!) which is unusual these days with AC. We began with the wagyu beef tartare which was absolutely fantastic with bits of what I'm guessing was octopus with cucumber and chives finely chopped and a side of fresh taro chips. This may not be for a traditional tartare purist but was a unique twist to the French version. The thick and sticky sesame sauce was awesome!!! Next we shared the veggie bibimbap which was a symphony of textures and flavours. There's no fast food shedded carrots and cucumbers but an elevated dish done simply. Would absolutely get this again! Last item was a 10pc sashimi that was served with real shaved wasabi- no green pasty powder ball here! Pieces were well sized and so smooth served on ice chips. Presentation for all dishes was top notch. Service was attentive without being intrusive as they topped up our water and checked our table. We were also lucky enough to taste a fruit meringue dessert that was a surprise since we did not order it. A light, creamy custard left us with a sweet but mouth cleansing ending. Give this place a try for sure!!!

From the Happy Hour menu, tried the Wagyu Ishiyaki, Tempura Shrimp Udon, and the Yuzu Chu-bai drink special. As other reviewers have noted, everything was exquisitely prepared and presented. Service was prompt, polite, and friendly. A nitpick, but minus one star for the jarring background music, which I found too loud and intrusive for a relaxed dining experience.

    Yuzu pavlova
    Carey M.

My nine year old wants everyone to know how amazing this place is. The service and the food. We eat GF for me and here offered a variety of starters and mains AND dessert. Highly recommend the yuzu pavlova if you want a little sweet ending. For the beginning we can recommend the salmon and hamachi Carpaccio (sans crispy onions which we swapped for green onions). Roasted tea - lovely. And only premium sake so have it cold. For those who prefer non-alcoholic go for the yuzu mock tail - the presentation is as tasty as the drinking of it. So glad this place is in the South. I've also been told that they do large parties and will open the patio for the summer. Coming back for sure.

    Menu item I had.

From the moment I walked in, I was in awe. Fresh design and layout. Very busy for Thursday 7:00 PM. The food was fresh and very well presented. So many different serving platters.

The interior of the restaurant has seen better days and they will be undergoing a major renovation from September 21st to 2025. The owner, Jay, was pleasant and attentive. He brought us a plate of complimentary spring rolls with sweet chili sauce. They were piping hot and super crunchy! Our family ordered three personal hot pots to warm us up on a cool autumn afternoon: spicy miso soup with lamb; Tom Yum soup with seafood; kimchi soup with beef. Our soups arrived in a timely fashion on top of individual burners (this was my first time seeing pink gel used as fuel) and they were intensely flavourful. My lamb was tender and the fish cakes, crab sticks, tofu, enoki/brown mushrooms, suey choy, and konjac vermicelli were deliciously satisfying and comforting. As usual, the boys and I had a taste of all three soup bases, and we decided that we liked them all! Just one thing of note: the soup tends to thicken halfway through your meal, so you might need to add a bit of hot water. We will certainly be back!

Downstairs is where you can see the chefs prep the sushi and sashimi. Order at the till and then you will receive a buzzer (to pick up your food when it is ready). You can grab the sushi from the lower level (basement). My better half has some very specific dietary restrictions and they were able to answer my questions, staff was polite and did notify us if any foods might be cross contaminated. The atmosphere is casual but could also be a nice place for a date. They had the patio open today which is where we sat. We ordered the sushi lovers tray $20 for 20 pieces (4 sashimi and 16 pieces of sushi). My kids don't eat spicy food so the chef was able to make our sushi tray to order (with the spicy sauces on the side), which was lovely. The chef asked about our dietary restrictions when I asked for the spice to be served on the side. Also, we ordered the spicy chicken ramen (TIP: if you are sharing with a non-spicy eater, you can order it with the spice paste on the side, which is what we ended up doing). Kids love the broth here, and it is chicken based. Some ramen places will have chicken ramen but then it will be prepared in a pork based broth, which doesn't work for us. We ordered two of the salmon sushi lovers trays, one chicken ramen, one chicken yakatori and one bbq chicken rice bowl. There is a good amount of variety on the menu, whether you are looking for a meal or more of a snack item. They do have chicken, lamb, beef, tofu, and pork on the menu along with vegetarian options.

A great lunch spot with excellent bowls and rolls!…read more We visited Maru Sushi and Don multiple times during our stay in Calgary, largely because my daughter absolutely loved their food. We ordered a mix of dishes across our visits, including the Sanuki Udon, the Salmon and Spicy Pork bowls, and the Philadelphia and Flower rolls. The Rolls I'll skip a detailed review of the rolls since I didn't taste them myself, but they looked fantastic. They were meticulously wrapped, and the Flower Roll was exceptionally colorful and appetizing. Judging by how eager my daughter was to keep coming back for them, they must be delicious. The Udon (Sanuki Udon. Udon just means Noodle) We ordered the Udon, and the presentation was very solid. The noodles were neatly grouped and topped with the classic agedama (tempura flakes). The dashi has a standard, formulaic taste--I certainly didn't expect a from-scratch iriko base--but it makes for a very comforting and tasty-looking bowl of noodles. The Bowls I personally ate the bowls and ordered them twice because I enjoyed them so much. The concept is a bit like a Chipotle burrito bowl, but much closer in spirit to bibimbap with a lower rice-to-vegetable ratio. It perfectly fit my goal of eating lower-carb meals. The bowls are packed with a vibrant mix of mesclun greens, cucumber, avocado, edamame, corn, pineapple, and green onions. I loved the textural contrasts: tender salad leaves, refreshing cucumber, and the chopsticks-testing edamame. A great detail was the carrots--they were lightly blanched in a sweet broth, which removed the raw bite while keeping them perfectly crisp. As for the proteins, the salmon was standard, but the Korean-style spicy pork was the standout. They got it incredibly right. It tasted very authentic with a solid 5/10 on my spice scale, and the gochujang blended flawlessly with all the vegetables. Minor Critiques I only have two small complaints. First, the red cabbage and sliced radish were unusually bitter and didn't blend well with the rest of the bowl's flavor profile. Second, opting for brown rice makes the bowl pretty challenging to eat with chopsticks; the structure of the rice is loose and dry, making it hard to pick up. However, I still managed to clean my bowl completely while waiting for my daughter to finish her meal! Verdict Overall, I really enjoyed our meals here. If I worked nearby, Maru Sushi and Don would absolutely be in my regular lunch rotation.

The store staff was alone, so you might have to wait. I chose salmon, tuna, hokkigai, and eel from Nigiri's menu, and added agedashi- tofu and miso soup. First of all, Nigiri's rice was not tasty. It's dry, and unfortunately, the fatty tuna (toro) sushi I had was sinewy and difficult to chew. The salmon had cuts on the surface, but also texture was unpleasant to chew. I didn't feel like eating any more, so I left the restaurant. If I get the chance to come here, I'll try something other than sushi.
