I walk past Sakee during my daily commute. It's always dimly lit with very few customers. I knew it was a Indian joint but didn't venture in.
Yesterday wife called when I was on the train. We normally do a takeaway on Friday and the big question was 'where from'. I wanted to try Sakee so checked Yelp but nothing was on it which obviously wasn't good indicator. Googled and saw a rating of 4.1 and decided to be brave.
Got into Sakee, there were more than usual customers and I thought it was a good sign. Modelled after the many Indian sports bar you find in this area- There is a bar area where you can sit and nibble away snacks and watch the game and have a good old bartender conversation. However the person behind the counter was more keen to meet and greet his regulars with limited interest towards the newbie!
I wanted collection so unordered a drink. The menu was exciting, ordered classic Indian lounge bar starters like Chilli Chicken, Batata Vada, Cheesy Jalepenoes, and wife wanted a Biriyani. I then realise that they deliver. As u was anyway getting bored I changed the order to delivery and headed home.
The food when it arrived looked promising however the first morsel in my mouth and I realised I should have listened to Yelp! Wife tried the dishes and 3 of the dishes were rated as sub standard. She was happy with the biriyani which I personally thought was overpowering.
I personally didn't feel that any dish was noteworthy. I was absolutely gutted that I spent more Han £40 and a Friday evening on this food. We had to dispose off the left over, which was quite a lot as there was no desire to have it the next day.
Over-all - great location, nice ambiance, staff looks after you if you are a regular and below average food gives it a two star.
I don't think I will try this place again. read more
