When I first moved to Rickmansworth my now husband took me here for dinner. Well he tried to, but…read moreit was fully booked. He then booked for my birthday and we have been for most family occasions and just for a treat ever since. Maurizio's has amazing welcoming staff, who know everything about the menu, where all the ingredients come from and how it's cooked. The specials are always worth a look. The food is just delicious and perfectly cooked. I love Maurizio's so much I have their number saved in my phone. One tip, always book whatever day of the week, it's full all of the time.

Although it wasn't very full when we arrived, more people did come in from time to time, although it never got really busy. Having said this, I did wonder why the service was incredibly slow. We had to chase up everything we ordered at least once, and the servers seemed to sail past the tables without looking around to see if the punters wanted anything. That was annoying. We started with the garlic bread, and shared the cheese and the tomato versions. Both were good. Beware; the portions are huge! Next I had the seabass special which was disappointingly dry, and was accompanied by limp and washed out green beans and carrots. i had asked for a side of broccoli but they were unable to provide this. The requested fresh lemon helped a bit, but it wasn't a great dish. Others had pizza and pasta and were happy with their choices.French fries were good and fresh. Solid 3 stars. They did try, but somehow it didn't quite work out.

Luckily…read morefor Croxley patrons and beyond, it's change of hands to the same chain as The Feathers/Bodegas seems to have stuck... alas it's now more of a restaurant. Gone are the heady days of having a pint of snakes b out front on the actual Green. No, now we sit surrounded by hanging baskets of glorious flowers and upon decking, on posh furniture, under huge canvas umbrellas. The drink prices of course reflect these happy changes and it can feel a tad too pricey at times but hey, the location is great on a balmy Summer's day or indoors by the open fires on a gloomy Winter's one. Came here for the beginnings of my 30th celebrations and hired the side section. Great service, lovely vibe for a pre louder bar venue. Not sure the other diners were impressed with my party poppers or cake sparklers but no one complained. A few of my friends grumbled at bar prices and they come from London, so it is expensive! Food prices are reasonable and everything I've had here has been gorg. I tried the kedgeree last week and it was bliss. Perfect. Staff are really nice and genuinely helpful. Also they now do a variety of puds rather than just waffles which left me and friend/family a bit cold. Been for a few roasts and always good. Book though, gets busy. So yea, it's great, prob better for dins or a quiet drink these days...I came here New Years quite a few years back (pre poshness) and had a dance off with a snooker cue as a prop...can't do that anymore! I'm a lot older now and also it's far too classy in here to be playing Britney and have a snooker table. Thankfully.

Tamarind Cafe has delicious and reasonably priced food, with super friendly staff... Tamarind Cafe?…read moreYes! Bear with me, this is definitely a review for Lemongrass, but I'm just setting the scene for you first... So, as I was saying, great food and service at Tamarind, but that makes for a very popular eatery, and if you're thinking of heading here without a reservation - forget it! So with that in mind, let's move on to Lemongrass, the beautiful but unloved sister of Tamarind. The Cinderella of Rickmansworth's Thais, if you will. We happened upon Lemongrass one disorganised Saturday. We'd called Tamarind to make a reservation, but too late. It was for this reason that we rather reluctantly went for what we imagined to be an inferior substitute - Lemongrass. When we arrived, my mother looked through the window and very nearly turned back. She thought it looked less cosy and friendly then Tamarind. But in we went, and do you know what...? Just as good, and in some ways even better! Food was just as cheap, just as delicious. Staff just as friendly, with great service. And on top of that, the decor is much nicer. That's actually what led the mama to think it wasn't as nice when she peeked through the glass. What I mean is that Tamarind is a fairly shabby little cafe, which somehow makes it seem more friendly. From outside, Lemongrass looked too nice to be cosy, but once we were in there, we realised the place was buzzing and the staff lovely. And you'll find yourself a table much more easily. Not sure why - as far as I can see, there's absolutely no reason why this place shouldn't be all booked up. It's a great little place! Just don't tell all the Tamarindites, in case they steal our table. I love you, Cinderella, and you look just beautiful in that glass slipper. xxx

Service was excellent. One of our party is disabled and I was very impressed with all the help/attention they provided. We told them this upon booking and they did everything they could to accommodate us. The vibe is cute and homely in a minimalistic way. All raw, exposed beams, wonky ceilings and white washed walls. Its very small downstairs (upstairs is meant to be much much bigger) but I loved it and didn't find that they'd crammed loadsa tables in. The food was fantastic, I want to say faultless, but poor other half's chicken had to be sent back as under cooked but I do believe it was a genuine mistake and it was rectified promptly and the second one was fab. My sea bass was delish. As was my dessert. This restaurant is excellent value...I'm talking £25 ish per head for 3 courses and a beer or two each. Will be back....soon.
