An American restaurant situated not far from the town centre with it's typical American decor. A…read morefantastic atmosphere with its ultra comfortable leather booth seats, skylight bringing in natural sunlight, even plug sockets for laptop users and free wifi. It also seems the place to watch live sports over a drink and a burger with tv screens on each corner of the restaurant yet it is still very family friendly and service has always been impeccable. In my honest opinion I do believe they serve some of the best American dishes around and can even compete with some of London's favourite diners. Wild wings (cajun) x6 Incredibly moreish and can see myself finishing a higher quantity bucket load. The wing sizes were quite average but very succulent and meaty inside. The cajun spices gave it a nice sweet paprika garlicky flavour and latched on well on the crispy skins of the wing showing that they were well fried, Sloppy Joes Ticked all the boxes for a fantastic burger. First that lovely pillow soft brioche bun, slightly charred so it came warm. Then came the rich tender minced beef fried with onions and peppers in there to give it some texture and boost of flavour. The sauce it came with was generous, with lovely rich sweet and and savoury notes keeping everything moist and juicy throughout. Finished off nicely with a fine slice of cheese, melted perfectly to intensify the umami flavours. Full rack ribs A delicious slab of ribs, keeping its meaty texture and flavours which suggest it was slow cooked the full length of time to tenderise and soften the meat. There was no pre cooking the ribs beforehand here. This allowed the rich BBQ coca cola sauce to penetrate through to the bone whilst reducing in liquid to create a rich and sticky coating around the ribs keeping everythign moist and juicy. A nice light creamy coleslaw on the side to cool things off. Curly fries These were perfectly fried. It had that moreish fluffy inside and crispy outside that was coated in the sweet mild spices which you find collapsing on itself as you chew, sending the rush of flavour through each mouthful. I say mouthful as who just pops one in their mouth per bite, not if they are this good. Chilli fries Not the spicy chilli as I imagined but chilli consisting of a wonderful well flavoured mix of red kidney beans, onions and red peppers in a lovely thick tomato slurry that helped bind the sauce and flavours on each and every chip. Drizzled with sour cream to add a lovely creamy consistency. Very wholesome dish. Sloppy suits every occassion whether it's your quick lunch or a celebration feast. Food has always been fantastic and paired with that is it's lovely bright and spacious atmosphere. Those who can eat a lot like me should definitely go for one of their food challenges. try their Sloppy Joes challenge and knock me down the top of the chart if you can.

Ruby is an elegant fine dining Indian restaurant just on the edge of Hertford town centre. You…read morecan't miss it as it's bright orange on the outside. The restaurant looks like a transformed Tudor house where inside resembled a 19th century British Indian influence decor. It had lovely exposed beams and columns inside giving the place a bit of history and rusticness amongst his classy decor and fancy table layout. Service was very professional and well mannered. A Mango lassi This is off the menu but make sure you ask for it. Not the richest of mangos but still very refreshing and nice to have. A good thick consistency with a lovely fruity sweet yogurt flavour Prawn puri A delightful starter. The prawns were fresh and springy in a wonderfully tangy sweet mildly spiced curry. Matching with that was the lovely doughy and stretchy puri bread which did a great job at soaking the complex curry sauce as well as prolonging the flavours of the prawns and the fried bread as I moreishly chewed my way through it. Baigun I didn't expect this to end up being one of my favourite aubergine dishes of all times. It was incredible. The aubergine was roasted to perfection creating a lovely gooey buttery flesh. Then stuffed with spinach, cheese and herbs and baked to create an explosion of flavours, exaggerating all the silky and velvety textures. The cheese became the glue binding everything together as well as lifting its umami flavours. Served with a sweet tangy mild spiced chilli sauce to add a nice zing to it Shamee kebab A nice fragrant herby kebab, flattened out into patties. Sadly it lost a lot of moisture in the cooking process making it quite dense and dry. However the complex spices and flavours were still very much predominant and enjoyed. The fried egg lace was nice to have for texture but didn't really do much for flavour Ruby special Kacchi biriani Lovely rich and savoury spiced stewed beef, cooked into it's soft and took on all the complex flavours. Not the most succulent but tender enough and I enjoyed it throughly with the delicious mild vegetable curry which helped retain moisture in dish throughout. Seasoning was perfect and everything had depth. The boiled egg was very much welcomed adding a nice contrast in texture and a refreshing taste. Served on top of basmati rice which was cooked perfectly al dente and moist Sag ponir Where east meets west. Spinach cooked in a mild creamy sauce with cheddar cheese added. A great side to have especially when eating with rice or naan, keeping things moist whilst adding a nice touch of comfort with its creaminess. Flavours kept light to it was wasn't overtaking the flavours of the other dishes Ruby gosht A lovely mild and aromatic curry, rich in flavour with its sweet umami tomato flavours and tastebuds tickling spices. It was thick in consistency and embraced the lamb well, seeping its flavours into every chunk of it and in return took on its meaty flavours. The lamb was tender enough but slightly on the dry side. Luckily the lovely boiled egg gave the dish a break in its texture being much softer and lighter. An excellent curry Peshwari naan Not the fluffiness of naan but instead quite crisp chewy around the edges. Still it was nicely stuffed with coconut and almond paste giving it lovely rich sweet flavour and nuttiness which made it more likeable to slowly chew through the naan and enjoy the flavours. Went very well with the more savoury curries I think all Ruby lacks to make it the perfect experience is charm. As great as service was, it doesn't hurt for staff to smile a bit. In terms of food I can honestly say it is a lot better than most Indian restaurants in London. Some dishes may not be the most traditional way of cooking it, like using cheddar in the Sag Ponir but it works and all the dishes were aromatic and delicious. In my opinion this is the finest Indian restaurant you are ever going to get in Hertford.

Ruby is a new contemporary Indian in Hertford…read more Quality of the food is excellent - nicely flavoured, and not massive portions like you can get in some Indian restaurants. Lots of waiters around so service is very good - no waiting for drink refills, paying your bill etc. Here is the classy bit - they now offer a free pick-up service using their new brightly coloured tuk-tuk. The vehicle is a genuine Indian Tuk Tuk made by a company called King and imported into the UK by Auto Rickshaws Europe. It has been converted to run on LPG and can seat 3 passengers in addition to the driver. The vehicle will be used as a free shuttle service for customers who live within Hertford. When making a booking customers can ask to be picked up in the Tuk Tuk. After your meal you can either be taken home or dropped off in the town. If you see the tuk-tuk driving around the town you can also give the driver a wave and he will give you a lift to Ruby.
