I had to reach out to my advisor for more information. The thing with this institution is that you will get out of it what you put in and need to be willing to reach out. They won't know you need help unless you tell them. The Advising department is filled with amazing people! Alsoz the campus is beautiful, the facilities are clean and well maintained, and the campus has extended hours for working students.

Metro State stands in the first rank as a university that provides accessible, quality education. It exemplifies the very best qualities and ideals of academia, and puts them into practice. If I ever have money to donate, I'll give it to Metro--but only if they make a statue of me as a centaur holding a flaming sword in one hand and a megaphone in the other. It will be called "The Classic Bombastic Iconoclast Goes To Class." I think I'll need to donate more than 5 million to qualify for the statue. Well, I'll work on it. As a working adult, I attended part-time, evening and weekend classes. Metro caters to working adults in terms scheduling, cost, and attitude. Let it be known that the is the cost of tuition here is lower than at any other four-year university in Minnesota. My professors were not ivy league, ivory tower faculty who felt superior to students. They were humble, had community jobs and practices, and treated students as equals in the classroom--an exceedingly rare quality in the academy. This imparts a kind of down-to-earth integrity that can be very difficult to find in academic social structures where hierarchy, ambition, and status-seeking are the norm. Not only were they respectful and personable, they openly encouraged skepticism and critical examination of ideas and theories. My efforts to think critically have been met with resistance and punishment at other schools I have attended, but they were amply rewarded by my professors here. Never before or since (and certainly not in graduate school, where every prof has a pet theory students are supposed to pay homage to) have I experienced the freedom to exercise my ability to think, to examine and evaluate the merits of ideas in a safe, neutral atmosphere. My professors afforded me perspectives and tools for examining ideas that I have employed far beyond the scope of my 5 years at this school. Additionally, the teachers here are committed to social justice and diversity. It shows in every classroom. At times, Metro State feels much more global than local. This is very much a culturally diverse and immigrant-friendly institution. While all of my teachers were caring and knowledgeable, I cannot speak highly enough about the social science department faculty. They were my mentors and guiding lights during my time here. They recognized my potential, and collaborated with me to develop it. Do you know how rare that is? It is to them that I owe my ability to think critically, and to speak truth to power. Unfortunately, they couldn't teach me to stay out of trouble. But maybe nobody can do that. At Metro State, you will not find the usual Greek life and sports affiliations. What a relief to not have your tuition dollars wasted on any of that BS! Nothing interferes with learning here. There are a few extra-curriculars. I was proud to serve as associate editor of the student newspaper, The Metropolitan for a few years. I had carte blanche to write whatever I wished in op-ed pieces, and I was paid to do it. I had the chance to to learn the production side of things as well. If you like to write and want some professional experience, call The Metropolitan. It's a great way to develop writing skills and make an impact at the same time. I have nothing but contempt and disdain for the other schools I attended, because the teaching was so scandalously shoddy and treatment of students, so poor. Everywhere else I have been has made me appreciate my experience at Metro State that much more. Not that I didn't love it while I was there. If I could have, I would have attended graduate school here as well, but alas, life takes you elsewhere sometimes,and school is not an end unto itself, but a means to an end. But what a "means" it is, here at Metro State! Fortunate indeed is the student who has the opportunity to complete their degree here.

I am currently in the RN-BSN program at Metropolitan State University, and I want to warn other…read moreworking nurses before they enroll. Although this program is 100% online, the school charges exorbitant additional fees that are the same as (or grouped with) the pre-licensure/on-campus BSN program. This includes differential tuition of hundreds of dollars per semester and multiple on-campus student fees -- despite the fact that RN-BSN students do not use on-campus facilities, parking, or in-person resources. Most employers only reimburse tuition, not fees, so these extra charges come directly out of pocket. For me, this added up to thousands of dollars that I could not be reimbursed for, simply because the program categorizes these costs as "fees" instead of integrating them into tuition. It feels misleading and financially unfair to working nurses who choose the online option because it's supposed to be flexible and affordable. The RN-BSN program should not be grouped with the traditional nursing program when online students receive none of the on-campus benefits. This is a pay disparity that Metro State has not addressed, even after multiple students questioned it. I cannot recommend the RN-BSN program to other nurses until the university updates its fee structure to reflect what online students actually use -- and stops passing unnecessary costs onto working adults trying to advance their education.

You are taught very minimal things and are expected to preform services you barely know on real clients. Some of the services I wasn't even taught by an instructor and was still expected to preform them on clients. Another student signed her contract days before mine and somehow I was the only one in the class that ended up paying THOUSANDS more for the same education. When I confronted the school about it they questioned on how I even knew that in the first place and made up lots of excuses on how their policies just happened to change in those couple days. This school will suck every penny they can out of you, they make up hidden fees in your contract so that you end up owing the school a lot more money then just tuition when you've completed the course. READ THE CONTRACT VERY CAREFULLY. They are constantly changing their "policies" and the rules are different for each class. The class before me had a cheaper tuition and the class after me paid a lot more and they didn't even receive a kit like all the previous classes did. Me and multiple other students have reported them to the BBB because of how poorly and unfairly the administration treats their students. The reason they have such good reviews is because they hound the current and previous students to leave them a good rating. If this review can stop just one person going to school here I will sleep easy at night.

You basically need to come here on foot or you need to already be parking downtown at some other pay facility or for some other reason. That makes it really problematic for me because I came downtown specifically to use this facility and then ended up having to pay a bunch of money and not even get to stay here as long as I wanted to. The facility itself is good but it's not worth the extra money so I just end up using Suburban locations now in the Twin Cities, and they should really have a lot or garage somewhere where their members and guests as well can use it for free while they are working out.

From a secular organizational standpoint, there are many things that could be said for, and against…read morethe institution, but on the whole its management is reasonably competent. I had various experiences with the staff, but I would say the majority are professional and nice people to interact with. So I would give 4 stars from a secular perspective. However, regarding the biblical/theological/missionary aspect, I should be grieved to report that the school fundamentally misunderstands both the gospel and the great commission. I hope to enlarge this review at some point for the benefit of others but to succinctly state this, the basic truths such as who is the LORD, what is sin, how can a sinner be saved, the need of the new birth, how can a person know if he has been truly converted, etc. are not only lacking in emphasis, but when they are touched on at all, are handled carelessly and are full of many soul-destroying errors. There is much emphasis on a kind of "Christian experience" which one cannot find taught in the Scriptures, and the students are generally assumed to be converted because they have some kind of zeal for missions. Much of the teaching on missions, evangelism, the bible, etc. is very misguided because the foundation of the house is built on sand. Much is said about the Holy Spirit, but His primary work applying the redemption purchased by Christ is scarcely mentioned. I was a student in 2019 who was very zealous for "evangelism" and "missions", reading the Bible, etc. and only several years later discovered that I was headed to a lost eternity unless I came to a saving knowledge of Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. It saddens me that the school has gotten (albeit a small number) of very low reviews. I hope that with my review, I can bring to light some of the misunderstandings. First off, let's get it right on the table. This college is NOT for everyone (but isn't closed off to anyone). It is a Christian school which follows Christian ideals and beliefs. The teaching and living will be Christ-centered and you will be stretched and challenged during your college experience. If that is not your cup of tea, then you will not like this school. This college is also considered a missions college. It has one goal in mind - to prepare students for the mission field to share the Gospel of Jesus with people all around the world. If you do not want to do that with your life, this college is NOT for you. The classes and experiences prep you to be a missionary and a Christian leader for Jesus globally or locally in your world. Sure, is that a narrow focus? Yes, but that is what they were designed and created to do. You cannot hate a business for doing what they want to do with the resources they have. Should I mandate that a vegan butchery sell real meat? No, I just should go to a butcher that sells real meat if that is what I truly want. What is unique and cool about this school is that it is a working college, meaning that you work to pay for your tuition. There are a number of jobs on campus from working in a coffee shop, helping out at a daycare, working in the campus kitchen, or assisting with campus events. I like that model because that means that you leave college with a degree in hand with little to no debt whatsoever. How many colleges can claim that? Another cool aspect of this college is that you get to go overseas for 1 1/2 years to do mission work at a designated ministry site in places like Thailand, France, Kenya, Georgia, or right here in the Twin Cities. That way, you get a taste of what it is like to be a missionary in a foreign environment and use the skills and knowledge you just obtained to help you thrive (as well as having dedicated staff right along with you helping each step of the way). When it comes to living on campus, the college prescribes to living in a way that the Bible says one should. That will ruffle some people's feathers but once again it is a Christian college and they have every right to do it. All of us struggle with that since the ideals that the Bible set are lofty but the campus makes sure to have staff and faculty who are able to live life with the students and provide guidance and support when needed. Many times though the student doesn't ask, instead trying to live life on their own strength. I think that is why some people get burned here; they never speak up or ask for help. Seriously, I personally know many of the staff onsite and they want to help students flourish and thrive, both in their relationship with God but also in their every day relationships and life. Finally, the staff on campus are amazing. Real, down to earth people who want to share the love of Jesus with others and want to raise and build up strong Christ followers and believers. The staff care so much for each student, I have heard so many stories from students who have been impacted in so many ways by the faculty on campus. It isn't just about the grades or the school's mission, the staff care very deeply about each student and what they are going through each day of their lives. And to make sure I am not making this review too weighty, the school does do a lot of fun and exciting activities as well. I recently helped lead a group of students to climb Hallet Peak in Estes Park, Colorado; what an awesome experience! There are also numerous parties, camp outs, and other social events to make this time in your life amazing. *A word of advice before I go. If someone thinks differently than you, instead of pushing away or writing that person off, talk to that person and get to know why they believe what they believe. Many times, we make assumptions that are wrong and only hurt ourselves in the process. This is a good life skill that can/should be done across the board in every interaction we have with people. It isn't just for religion either; it can be for politics, sports, way of life, etc. Open-mindedness DOESN'T mean you have to agree and prescribe to everything but it does mean that you are willing to have a conversation and listen in a non-judgmental way.

They have so many wide programs in theater, arts, baccalaureate. The school is very diverse and allows students to interact with all kinds of students from different ethnic backgrounds. They always encourage students to come from abroad, so you'll have the chance to meet with people from around the world. They offer PSEO, so you can go to Normandale and get credit for high school and college (although most classes only transfer to U of M and not all private schools accept - look into it). Great neighborhood. Great after school programs. Great teachers. Just awesome!

They advertise wanting to support students, but every time I had shown up with a concern or issue, I was constantly dismissed and felt invalidated. They don't care about your education or you as an individual. They care more about how you're gonna pay. I don't recommend the school for anyone. You're paying thousands of dollars to experience stress and anxiety.

I'm writing this review as an adult learner. So that may be a different perspective than someone…read morestill in high school looking at colleges. For an adult learner, they offer the "Augsburg for Adults" or AFA program. This program recognizes the needs of a busy adult with a full time job and a family and still allows you to complete a traditional 4 year bachelor's degree, at a real accredited college. Signing up as an adult, you are allowed to transfer in a lot of the credits you may have done at a prior college. If you started but never finished, or did a 2 year at a community college, or even a little bit of trade school (or for-profit schooling) you will have some of your credits transfer. Classes are offered every other weekend, in 4 hour long sessions. So the classroom time equals out to be the exact same as a regular daytime student in a traditional program.... you are just condensing it into bigger blocks, so you don't have to show up as often. Having class only twice a month works well for me as an adult. The cost is reasonable for a private college - though much higher than a community college. A traditional 4 credit class at Augsburg in the AFA program is around $1,700. They work with your employer if you have tuition reimbursement available. Also, this isn't really well known, but there is a regional student loan program out of North Dakota called the DEAL loan. This is probably one of the best private loans available out there. Luckily Minnesota students are eligible (only3 or 4 states are eligible). Look into that and into federal stafford loans if you need some financing. The instructors have generally been top notch professors, although I have had a couple stinkers. One was a tenured professor who was absolutely full of himself, and one was a grad student who was trying to make some money as a part time instructor. Both were terrible. Otherwise though I've been very pleased with the teaching talent at Augsburg. If you're an adult learner, I find that the AFA program is a really good fit and there is a lot of support for adult learners. The staff in this program are very supportive in making you feel like you get the whole college experience yet also have your unique needs as an adult student taken care of. It's been a great experience for me. I've got less than a year left to graduation with two degrees!
