Century College was the place where I chose to take my first year of college. I GREATLY advise you to never go here. Some of the teachers were alright, but most were just simply inadequate to teach. The way that this college handles things like financial aid, it's like they're TRYING to screw you over. On the first day of my orientation, my laptop was stolen out of the trunk of my car. I talked to the security people and they had security cameras, but they wouldn't even look at the footage because, "The security cameras don't have a zoom function." Seriously. They took over 2 months to process my financial aid, mostly because they kept telling me I had everything in, but I would get a letter in the mail saying that I needed such and such tax forms or this or that or the other thing. THIS WENT ON FOR MORE THAN 2 MONTHS. I was having a difficult time in my life with circumstances out of my control, and I tried talking to my professors about it, but they were unhelpful, and even condescending towards me. NONE of the teachers I've had post their grades anywhere. You have to come in during their office hours and talk to them to get them to print off your grades. If you were in the same place I was, working a job at the same time, this is nearly IMPOSSIBLE. For my second semester, I thought I would take some classes that I thought I would be good at, and since I got over 30 on my English and Writing scores for my ACTs, I figured I would take a COMP 1 course. I took the course with a teacher that was getting great reviews on ratemyprofessor.com, and then at the last second (I'm talking like, 2 weeks before the class started) they changed the instructor. I was not notified, and the teacher was fairly nice for the first week of class, but after the first week drop period, she turned into an absolutely horrible person to be around. I found myself dreading that class, but I was determined to pass it. I turned all the work in, but I would get bad grades for things such as "your writing was good, but the topic wasn't interesting enough." I'm a really super easy person to get along with, and trust me, I tried really hard to like this woman, but she was condescending and outright belittling to me. After I failed her class, I decided against going to this school ever again, but I would have to do appeals to get out of academic suspension. I wanted to know if I could do my appeals at Century and that it would transfer over to the college that I wanted to go to next. They kept saying that it would. Well, I went to all this trouble to explain my extenuating circumstances, first I had to get health care (which was a large undertaking for a person fresh out of high school) then I had to go to see a doctor, get the doctor to explain the circumstances then sign it, fill out some paperwork, schedule an appointment, and then explain the circumstances myself. I did all of this, went through this whole process, and then a day later I get a call from the counselling center office, "You'll have to do your appeals at the college that you're planning to go to for Fall semester, but if you want you can take your Fall semester classes at Century that's all set up and we have your appeals on file." WHAT?!?!?! I am not going back there again. By the time they contacted me, the appeals period for MCTC was almost over. This school has been fucking me over literally since day 1, and will probably continue to fuck me over until I pay off my student loans. Don't go to this college unless you seriously want to be screwed out of thousands of dollars. read more
