So many in this school have to deal with homophobia, racism, & harassment.
It's not good, It's terrible for a conducive learning environment and does not represent what a school should be in terms of "safe" for so so SO many people.
Are you gay? watch out for harassment. Are you black? Mexican? Watch out for harassment. Do you wear 'edgy', 'punk', or generally alt-style clothing? OH, YOU BETTER BE CAREFUL. Other students, your so-called "peers" will take photos and videos of you without your consent, laughing and making fun of you, and the staff will do little to nothing about it. In fact, they'll ask YOU to change your clothes, because *obviously* YOU"RE the one at fault here.
If your place is in the ALC part of the school, however, you're in a better place. Very accepting of this stuff. The main Highschool portion are the ones all huffy about this. It's NOT good, it does NOT feel safe.
Just last year at the sno-ball, there were SO MANY issues with trans people using the bathroom. Y'know, that thing we all do, regardless of what sex or gender we are? Yeah.
Don't go here if you want to be yourself and the true you isn't "basic straight white."
Adversely, if you want to be a teacher/staff member here, to make it better? Nope. There was a teacher here in the ALC who did just that for the whole high school and was 'let go' after her first year for 'not being a good fit' EVEN THOUGH Everyone liked her. She made the place feel safe, made much-needed changes, and even had something after school for the nerdy gays to go to and play D&D. She understood all the issues and feelings of her students (again, most of them were LGBTQIA+) because she herself was in the same boat as them. very accommodating, unlike so much of the rest of the school. read more
