My second visit was for my nieces music program, which was done very nicely.. My niece speaks often and highly about all she learns, her teachers and her environment. If I had children, I would want them enrolled at Hope Academy as well. Ambiance: Located on Chicago Avenue and 25th. There was no lot adjacent to the school, however there is street parking and a ramp directly across the street. Growing up on the South Side, It is located literally next door to one of the most drug saturated parks in South Minneapolis (Franklin & Chicago), but prior to building the school, they started cleaning the park up. The neighborhood has changed some over the years and has become a different environment for children to play, bus and be educated. The school itself has secured doors and only one entrance in and out for visitors.

Nova is a great school, but that is not to say it is without flaws. It is still a very new school…read more(will have its first graduating class this year) and there are definitely things that need to be worked out, especially in the upper grades. While I understand the philosophy of hard work, sometimes I wonder if it might be a little bit much. The school makes promises that colleges will examine the schools curriculum and adjust accordingly, but I am afraid that many students will be at a disadvantage going into this process simply because of lower GPAs. And there is no question that many B and C students at Nova would be A students at other schools. I know many students at other schools -- a girl whom I know has a difficult trouble reading yet is getting almost 100% in her Language Arts class at Washburn, students who are reading books in high school that I know Nova students read in 7th grade, and other students who are still taking basic science courses in high school (Nova Freshman are taking a Biology course based on a college textbook) -- just to name a few examples. This is not to say that students at other schools do not deserve their grades, but it does put Nova students at a disadvantage. Many have talked about the homework load. It is not so extreme as many make it out to be, but sometimes it can be excessive. One of the only other real problems with homework is that teachers do not coordinate with each other. The major work calendar is supposed to take care of this, but it does not. Only assignments such as presentations, tests, and lengthy papers go on this calendar. A 4 page paper? A quiz? A 12 page annotation? A lab report? No, not on the calendar. I believe that Nova just needs to find the balance between a rigorous education and putting students at a disadvantage.

This is an absolute joke of a school. I attended Edison for 3 years, from 2009-2012. I came from…read morethe northern suburbs (SLP, Anoka, Blaine) and comparatively, this school is absolute crap. About 90% of the teachers were unmotivated and dumbed down the course material so everyone would pass. The coursework was middleschool level, and in 3 years there I can't honestly say I learned anything useful. Intermittently, I took a break from Edison for a semester and attended DelaSalle, a private high school only a few miles away. And I learned 5x more at DelaSalle in just one semester than 3 yrs at Edison. Unfortunately, though, I had to go back and graduate from Edison. At Edison, about 90% of the students are animals and it takes the teachers 20 minutes to settle the animals down before class actually begins. There were only about 20 students in my grade who were very motivated and took the same AP and CiS courses as me, and those classes were a bit better. But all the non AP/CiS/IB classes are complete wastes of time, along with the unmotivated teachers who teach there just to get their student loans forgiven. TLDR: If you care about your child's education, do not send them to Edison.

The teachers are very good at their jobs and they teach the children in a way that's mind blowing, they teach in a way that EVERY student can understand, every kid is different some are visual learners some are more hands on learners, they learn what style of teaching each student is best at and they work with that. They don't teach just one way like in regular public schools (public schools only teach as a whole class which is sad and unfair to some that don't really understand that way of teaching and it causes students to fall behind because of the lack of communication between each child and their teacher as I said before NOT ALL kids LEARN by just that one way of teaching) but here at JJ Hill all the teachers have assistant teachers and they work with kids individually and find out the child's best way of understanding and what they're learning and they will teach them in a way the child best understands. 5/5 I'm telling you look into Montessori's and you TOO will want to send you children to this one or many other Montessori's!!!
