Your kids aren't blonde haired, blue eyed, very skinny, and rich they will be brutally bullied and if your family doesn't have money the school will do nothing about it and brush it off. Lunches are free, but if your kid is in middle or high school and dares eat the main dish instead of getting a salad they will be looked down upon by their peers. There's a huge eating disorder culture here - the school store doesn't sell uniforms above an adult medium. If your family happens not to be white or white passing, you will be outcast and treated different. If you don't have a boatload of money and are on scholarship - you will be treated differently. Report any bullying or abuse from other students and they will sweep it under the rug to save face. The religion portion of the education is also extremely dated and extreme - very conservative - in 8th grade your child will watch every 70s abstinence video on the planet and be compared to a wrapped present. They have a pro-life club that actively campaigns at lunch to k-12 students. Class trips start happening in middle school and cost anywhere from $2000-20,000 and are anywhere from Chicago to China. Don't get me wrong, the education is spectacular and your student will be 2-3 grade levels ahead of public school students but if you don't fit the mold their mental health will suffer. The harsh reality is that there is a specific look and cadence to the type of student that fits in and is most welcomed here.

The only reason I am not giving it five stars is I've never been a fan of their scary mascot warrior - he doesn't fit at all in with the safe, secure environment that the school is known for. Otherwise, I would've been proud to have had my own children attend there when they were younger.

When I attended back in 2016-2017, they sent out an email to parents telling their kids not to be friends with me. What kind of establishment does that? The bullying from the children was bad, but the adults? Far worse. Ms Bailey and Mr O were the worst. I just checked their staff list and Mr O, better known as Curtis Olufson still works here. Curtis would constantly pull me into his office for the smallest infractions and would come up to me in the hallways and lobby with accusatory behavior when I wasn't doing anything wrong. Curtis, since I'm now an adult and can speak to you as one. Screw you. You made my school life hell. I hope that you have changed as a person, since I was a student under you but I doubt it. I sincerely hope that you are not making other students feel the way you made me feel. Parents please be aware of him and ask your students their opinion on him to make sure he isn't targeting them.

He attended a different private school for third grade, but it didn't fit his needs. But they did help us discover that he had a problem with his eyes and needed eye therapy in order to be able to read. I was very concerned that he had missed the formative years of foundational, reading and writing. This is what led us to Groves. Most of his teachers have been spectacular every year. Extremely nurturing and encouraging. He's made huge strides in reading and writing. He now has so much more confidence and feels very comfortable at the school. The teachers are very communicative with parents. Also, the speech and language tutoring has been very helpful as well. If your child has issues with reading and writing, literacy, and executive functioning, I highly recommend Groves. I am so grateful for this school. They are doing very important work there and helping so many kids.
