However, there seems to be an excessive amount of subs. Currently out of 8 daily classes, one of my kids has 3 subs. 37% of her classes are taught by teachers who don't know the kids, are not respected by the kids, and cannot coax the best out of the kids. One earlier sub actually hit a child which was brought to the admin by students. Teachers often cross teach and sometimes not to much success. I am a better math teacher than one of my kids current teachers. However, in the high school there are some stellar teachers. All of the teachers could use lessons in human behavior. The goal is always to how do I teach to many different kids on many different levels, not just how do I get through the day? There are lots of sports and clubs to choose from but like all schools if your child wants to participate they can, if they want to get lost in the fray, they can get lost in the fray. The biggest issue we have had is unresponsiveness from the administration. I have several children at BSM and, like life, there have been issues. I always try to address them to the Jr. High principal but have ended up contacting parents directly because sadly, nothing gets done and you do not get the courtesy of a follow up call. Bad situations continue to be bad, get worse and then months later there you are calling parents directly anyway whereas if it was taken care of immediately perhaps the poor behavior could have been corrected immediately. All schools have their issues but I do not know if I would choose this school again. They are very supportive of the kids that will be successful wherever they go and because it's easy to support those kids. The kids that could use more support, encouragement, direction, mentoring, etc. are on their own. The combination of a parent/school support system can elevate kids who are short on confidence and if I could choose again I would interview all administration with a more objective eye and choose better.

I was actually doubtful since so many tutor businesses cater only to ACT and not helping students after high school. I contacted Karen as well as two other tutors and decided to go with Learning Designs. Karen put us in touch with the perfect person to work with my daughter and the result was four papers each with a grade of A. Karen matched my daughter to the perfect tutor. It saved the semester. Karen is responsive to each student's needs and the building in Linden Hills provides a very nice environment for the sessions. I highly recommend Learning Designs.

Don't sent your kids here with a private school expectation. Sent them here with a diverse world learning expectation. They have a minority majority as the world does. That being said you will not find a singular group of kids from any one race or belief system. They all work and learn together as we do in the ever connected global world. They have a nice facility with big upgrades coming soon. Nice fields , gyms, common areas. The sports have good coaching staff. The leadership is good and willing to talk. The food is about what you would expect. They have a great music department and very nice theater. I am happy with my experience as a parent and suggest you give them a try.

With friends complaining about traffic, parking, lines, signage, and every possible issue all over the metro area, I feel a little smug that I showed up (via car) in the middle of caucusing and without knowing my precinct number and was able to walk right through the building with lots of volunteers and find my room and cast my vote. I still think caucusing is not the best way to vote in 2016, but oh well.

Swim Meet Review!!…read more Edina Gators and Southview Middle School = GOOD JOB. Are you coming here for a swim meet? Things to know = the parking lot is small. There's a second lot on the east side of the school, and you can follow a path alongside the south side of the school to get back to the pool entrance. You can also park in the neighborhood. I've been to all sorts of meets here, smaller one session novice style, four session two day invitationals, and post season meets. They always seem to have a solid snack bar going, with real meal options like walking tacos and fresh fruit and baked goods and coffee, not jsut candy and gatorade. There are tables for people to sit at when your kid isnt swimming. (A gym too, but that's pretty typical) The building has a few nooks that you can walk to if you want to get away from all noise. There is a decent amount of seating. They sell programs, if youre into that. (Sometimes this means the program is not available online. Meh. I can work with that)

Both children are excited to go to school and are proud of the work that they do and what they are able to accomplish. We also love the sense of community the school fosters, including that younger students are paired with an older student mentor. One of the biggest differentiators is access to the land school in Wisconsin -- what a treat for city children to get to explore, work with animals and gardens, and have overnight opportunities with their peers. Every time my children bring up equity or social justice issues or demonstrate a deep understanding of a topic that seems beyond their years, I am reminded of why we choose Lake Country and am thankful for the opportunity.
