I was a national merit finally.A recruiter came to my high school and promised me that I along with all other merit finalists would receive a scholarship. I decided to attend but when I got there I llearned that the recruiter lied. I tried to contact the president but she would not talk to me and her chief of staff had the secretary repeatty lie to me by telling me falsely that she would call me back. BOO CARLETON! I went on a camping trip my freshman year, before even starting school, and this one WHITE foo was all like, "Mexican women only cross the border to have their babies here who can then take advantage of the U.S." while looking straight at me. Yeah, I'm Mexican. Then this same fool, during a talk at which a dean was present, said something else disparaging Mexican people and blah blah blah. Instead of talking to said dumbass, the dean approached me and said I could go talk to him whenever I felt like it. Uh...I think the dumbass needed more help then I did. Anyway, maybe it was my first experience in SUPER WHITE MN but I could not stand the anger and hatred directed towards Latinos and Mexicans. GOD! And then, my roommate could not understand why we even talked about racism because it was SO pointless. Jesus. Please consider going somewhere else. Or at least visit the campus to see how many Latinos are actually there (if you are Latino or any other minority). Boo! read more

Carleton talks a great talk but they don't walk the walk. Their admissions staff is curt to the point of being down right rude. They believe all the hype said about the school and its going to their head. The profs are very egocentric. This is a VERY small school, in a VERY small town. That alone doesn't prepare students for the real world. If you are a white boy from MN with a 4.0 GPA/35 on your ACT etc. you are maybe one of 45 students to get into the school and that included alumni children. If a women-your chances are about one of 55. Don't bother wasting your time. You can get just as good an education elsewhere. read more

I can't say anything about the academics or what the other reviewers said. I came here to visit a friend (actually my close friend's sister) during my spring break in April 2015. I was amazed on how beautiful the campus is and wish colleges look like this in Southern California. The food was pretty good at the dining hall but I do think st. Olaf college has better food. Also people compare st Olaf and Carleton based on how they look but to be honest, I feel that both of the schools are beautiful in their own way and I don't think one school is more beautiful than the other. since my friend was a freshmen, she was in a resident hall with another roommate so I slept in a cot. Many students thought I was a prospective student since the weekend I was there was prospie weekend for high school seniors to come and stay at Carleton. I kind of wish I said I was and say that Carleton has been my dream college, just to see how the students would react or if they would believe me. But I didn't. The school has their own movie theater so they show movies sometimes. I watched Into the Woods when I was there. They also have a little town close by that you can walk too which is nice. The houses are cool and some of them students can live in. The school also has an arboretum but it was kind of bare like the rest of Carleton since it wasn't really warm yet. Even though, Carleton is nice to visit, I don't think I can live or go to school here. There isn't much around or a city kind of close by. It takes about 1.5-2 hours to go Minneapolis in the van. Transportstion isn't really good like it is at haverford college near philly where my friend's older sister went. Also don't get me started on the weather. I came at a pretty good time actually where the weather was in the high 60s low 70s. Although people probably knew I wasn't from there because I wore a sweater, t-shirt, and jeans. People were in spaghetti straps and shorts since the weather is warm to them. But I heard it gets VERY cold in the winter and sometimes it is still cold and there is some snow in May. I would be afraid to drive or even want to go outside. I love being able to drive where ever I want in so cal in the winter. The only thing I have to worry about is the rain. I wish I can have the best of both worlds with the New England style buildings and the weather. Seriously, colleges don't look like this in so cal. Even though it was fun visiting, I didn't connect with any of her friends like I did with the older sister. I think part of it was cuz I was there for a short visit but even then, none of her friends really interacted with me like her older sister's friends did when I was at haverford. It would be awesome to come back here one day to Minnesota to visit and explore more. But I think the east coast is my favorite. Check out the school and look into the programs they have. I know they have a good geology program. read more

Good profs, good people (for the most part), weather builds character, bad food but oh well

I suggest that these two reviewers are nuts and have some personal beef with the school. Check any other review site and you will see nothing but 5 star reviews. This is a great school. I can guarantee you will find few schools that come close. The students, faculty,and administration are unmatched. For the record many of my friends went to the school. Sadly I didn't, but I have spent a lot of time with grads and a bit with teachers and current students. They are all fantastic. read more
