Good school, offers consumers wide variety of majors with rigorous general education requirements, providing a well rounded experience for those that attend. Some services that make it stand out from its primary competitors are its helpful career services center, strong music program, good student support, and excellent academic resources. 1 star off due to a high price, although there are many complimentary services beyond the standard lineup of what other institutions sell. Years ago I was a prospective student here. It was one of my most unpleasant college visit ever. People seem really rich and like they don't like academics because many of them are from Edina. Kudos on the dry campus though. It really seems to help with school spirit. Having to endure a Minnesota winter without alcohol builds character. Also government scientists say alcohol and cold don't mix and you can't be in Minnesota without cold. Carleton has cuter ducks in their lakes though. My son visited here recently and he told me he would give the school a resounding "meh". read more

Saint Olaf is a liberal arts school set in the beautiful town of Northfield MN. I attended from fall of 83 to spring of 87 and thoroughly enjoyed my experience there. Food is good, fellow students are friendly and the professors treat you like family. There are great options for those interested in athletics and music and travel. Should be a strong contender for anyone interested in a private school with around 3,000 students. read more

This is one of the most beautiful campuses, especially in the fall. With the colorful leafs complimenting the abundant stone, this campus truly appears to be a light on the hill. Like a white washed tomb, the aesthetics are second to none. As a secular University, it's great to see architecture that still ties into the founding name - Saint Olaf. read more

St. Olaf is St. Olaf. A great liberal arts school that doesn't go overboard getting a big head about themselves. They have a huge acceptance rate upon graduating undergrad school into great graduate programs in medicine, science, math. If you love music, they have that too. It may be a Lutheran school BUT it is not religious if you don't want it to be. There are Hindu, Buddhists, Catholics and many faiths represented. I'd call the school Norwegian conservative which is a 'I have my ideas, you have your's and as long as everyone respects each other and keeps quiet-we'll do just fine.' attitude. Unlike snooty Carleton across town, this school knows who they are, and doesn't try to pretend they are Ivy league-and at Carleton it is just pretend! They talk a liberal talk yet they discriminate just like the worse offenders. St.Olaf gives you a personal college undergraduate experience that prepares you for much bigger graduate school experiences AND grad schools recognize that. read more
