My sister and I drove around the campus and enjoyed the historical buildings, beautiful grounds, and lovely chapel. I can only imagine what a stellar education the students receive! read more

Absolutely amazing school dedicated to the education and social and emotional growth of their students. I am impressed by their decision to get the kids back on campus and learning. Not a lot of other schools have the organization and leadership to make this happen. Definitely a top school. read more

Great opportunities and wonderful staff at this diverse school. They created a new Boys Choir Center of Excellence and have been promoting this and trying to build the program. We've had only wonderful experiences here (our son's first year) and look forward to the next school year. Academically, my son has improved 110% and receives the support he needs to stay motivated. read more

It is a place where honored traditions meet innovation. It is a place where the word "imagine" is part of the routine vocabulary of students, teachers and coaches. In short, this Episcopal boarding and day school has been and continues to be a place that has nurtured generations of young people from all over the world.

History

Established in 1858.

On June 3, 1858, in a small rented building in Faribault, Minnesota, The Rev. Dr. James Lloyd Breck established the Episcopal mission school and seminary from which Shattuck-St. Mary's School has developed and prospered. By 1883, St. Mary's had also outgrown its downtown facilities, and a grand, ornate building, often referred to as "the Castle on the Rhine," was built on the bluffs, less than a half mile south of Shattuck. In 1972, the three schools, Shattuck, St. Mary's and St. James, were joined into what is known today as Shattuck-St. Mary's School. In 1974, the military program was discontinued. In 1988, the residential and academic programs were reconfigured so that the Middle School students (grades 6-8) were at the St. Mary's campus and the Upper School students (grades 9-12) were at the Shattuck Campus.
