This little Sainsbury's has some tough competition, with two separate branches of Tesco nearby but it seems to get by. It's definitely on the small side, but the layout is pretty smart and it doesn't suffer as much from the cramped feeling you get in a lot of these smaller stores. The staff do a pretty good job of keeping it clean and tidy and don't try to restock the shelves during peak shopping hours.
The staff are pretty quick at working through the queues at the checkout too - these can get quite long at around 6pm but it's deceptive, you won't need to wait long to get served. There are a few self service checkouts too, which obviously help, and actually work fairly well most of the time.
It has a decent selection of fresh fruit and veg, even managing a few less common items, as well as sandwiches, ready meals, fresh meat and fish, a small frozen section as well as jars and packets, magazines, chocolates, etc. Usually they also have a stand near the tills that sells things for the home - coffee mugs and so on. For such a small store they have a fair selection of wine and beer as well.
Most of the time you should be able to find most of the things you might need here. The only problem is the price. As with any of these smaller supermarkets you can expect to pay a premium for convenience. Don't expect to find cheaper options for products when they have limited shelf space - only the medium to high price point items will be available. read more
