Using my sat nav just to try find a grocery shop and I passed budgens and as I was trying to find a safe place to turn around I happen to find Tesco which to my delight had a big car park which was sign posted very well! So I got a great spot next to the entrance and at first grabbed a basket as I knew this was a small store but just going down one aisle I then decided I needed a trolley as there was more items you can get through this store! I ended up doing my whole weekend shopping which was great for me as I didn't have to venture anywhere else and the queues for the till was very short and staff were very friendly!

In fact I only use because it's on my way to/from work, and it's open 24hrs. I frequently find the shelves empty of want I'm after. Sometimes they are on the trolleys waiting to be put out, but more often than not, they don't have them. And whilst we're talking of the stock trolleys/roll-pallets, why do they have to leave them in the middle of the aisles? If you shop during the evening or at night, I is often impossible to actually go down some aisles because they are blocked by stock waiting to be put out. And the staff have a habit of standing and chatting amongst themselves totaly oblivious to the customers. Sometimes it takes saying excuse me a couple of times, or a quick jab with the trolley, to actually get them to move. And I would never buy anything frozen from them. I have seen, and been told by an ex-employee, that frozen products are sometimes left out waiting to be put in a freezer for longer than half an hour. However, they do have some good points such as being 24hrs. Also they do some weird offers. This week I have bought two packets of cereals for £2, when they are £2.15 each; and five Muller Lights for £1.00 when they are 54p each! Bargains! They also have a petrol station which is normally one of the cheapest in the area

I can't decide whether it's ASDA I don't like, or just supermarkets in general! The staff always seem friendly enough, I have fond memories of being an ASDA checkout girl during one summer in my teens. I liked being chatty to the customers (I'm not sure whether that was encouraged or not!) But I always have a good natter with the checkout ladies. It can be pretty monotonous scanning food all day long. My other half likes to spend ages looking around the electricals section, some bargains to be had apparently! We didn't come home with a new TV or speaker set this time.

For groceries, though, it's got a lot to offer. Fruit and veg are of good quality and usually well-stocked. The deli and fresh fish counters offer a lot of choice, and they even have a large 'Polish food' section. They have two 'car trolleys' which amuse small (and big) kids greatly, and make the shopping trip easier with children who are too big for the trolley seats but too small to walk all the way around without whining. Staff are friendly and helpful, and offers on food are good value.

There is a dedicated desk in the clothes and electrical area that can help you with any stock that isn't out on display. It has a large fruit and veg section as well as a bakery but the frozen food isle are not that big. Good place to do your weekly shop as you have a marks and Spencer next door and the petrol is always at a reasonable price compared to other stations. Staff are also helpful and friendly.

M&S Simply Food at Brighton Station is one of the few shops inside the station concourse, it is…read moreprobably one of the better places in the station to grab some to-go food and drinks ahead of a train journey, with rivals Superdrug and WHSmith barely having a food selection, and PRET being the only other place which sells food, but even then they sell a limited menu compared to other stores. This is pretty different from other M&S Simply Food stores as it is a travel store, they specialise in to go food and drinks at really high prices, as I recall a meal deal cost around £5 which is £1.50 more than a regular store, an increase of around 42.8%. I understand travel stores can cost more because of the location, but this seems to just take it a little step further, knowing there is little competition elsewhere in the station and it is from the Marks and Spencer brand, which has a reputation for being towards the higher-end scale for food anyway. The gluten-free selection was awful, they didn't have any wraps or pasta pots which stores usually have, they had two varieties of sandwiches, even then this is quite poor for a Marks and Spencer store, who have much more to choose from. I personally have a strong hate for seeded bread, which is why it frustrates me to see so many places only offering gluten-free sandwiches on seeded bread, and this location is sadly no different. A useful store, but they really do need to work on making pricing much more reasonable and stock of gluten-free items, which Marks and Spencer are usually pretty good here, so this branch is pretty rare in that sense. 2*

Also, English grocery stores aren't laid out the same. For example cookies might be in multiple locations rather than one designated "cookie aisle." Also it was interesting because you had to pay for a shopping cart. They did have a limited number of hand baskets. If they ran out of hand baskets, people would use the bags they brought and add there items into the bags. Then remove them when they got to the counter. It was nice because there weren't long lines, and they had a lot more self-serve kiosks than my local American grocery store.

There's an automated gate that requires a receipt barcode to be scanned before exit is permitted. Ultimately I think this is a store that's 90% grocery store and 10% variety store. I had visited several locations while in London and they are all laid out roughly the same, making it easy to find what you need. They are slightly cheaper than posh smaller markets, but it is a standard chain grocery store, so quality is a little less for meat, fruit, veggies, etc. There are quite a few around London and its outskirts, so never had an issue while visiting, which is great. All and all, I overall was quite happy with my visits.
