My review was deemed not P.C so it was gone, here's a simple review, you'll find the cheapest price of all supermarkets, pomelos 49c each, oranges so cheap but I have 4 Sunkist orange trees in my backyard.

I bought 7.99/lbs star apple. That's terrible. Three star apples were all moldy. When cut, they smelled rancid and tasted sour.

How great are the prices for produce here? They have fresh veggies and fruits at really low prices compared to where I live. I had fun walking all around the many aisles and seeing what they have to offer, which is lots. Tons of sardines, Vietnamese spices, fish, different Aloe juices than I'm used to seeing at the Korean and Japanese supermarkets, and really tons of other merchandise. SS is in the same plaza as Advance Beauty College. When I entered from a side entrance, it didn't smell that great. As I advanced into the store, things were a lot better. It's not bad, you can handle it. When I went, checkout was quick. I've posted pictures of sections of the store under the listing. I picked up fresh tomatoes and Persian cucumbers for my first visit. I'm sure I'll swing by again if I'm in this area.

Remind me not to go to OC's Little Saigon on a weekend, a holiday, and especially around Chinese New Years/Tet. We tried to go to a different, larger Asian supermarket, part of a strip mall whose parking lot entrance was off Bolsa Ave. Crazy! The traffic moved 2 feet in an hour. And you can already imagine the venomous epithets that fell from my mouth every time an SUV with no visible driver cut in front of me. That vehicle, dear Yelper, was probably 'manned' by a tiny Asian lady elevated by a pillow so she could peek through the openings in her steering wheel. Happened more than once today. Once Mr. B and I got in said parking lot, it was more of the same. Never did find a parking spot after waiting another 30 minutes. Parking was so premium, I suspect people hoarded their precious parking spots and walked home. We gave up. Yelp to the rescue, we were guided to a market that was more off the beaten path. That would be here, Saigon Market. Plenty of parking, less crowded, same clientele, and grungy exterior. Ahhhhh.....authentic. We were there to find a small cleaver for Mr. B. That was all. An hour later, we came out with $64 of fresh veggies, Asian flavored soup bases, bean thread noodles, raw peanuts, cute dishware, etcetera, etcetera. Oh yes, and we did remember to get the the knife. Happily one of our better non-dementia days. Cool store! Big....no....huge! Fascinating stock. Beautiful produce. A large selection of fresh-off-the-boat fish, molluscs and crustaceans in large bins of ice, aquariums, or pools. Why is that so hard to find in the big IE? So, here is my biggest complaint, and my simple-minded work around plan: I had a hard time finding employees who understood English. They would point when I asked for sesame seeds, but it turns out they were pointing at the cashiers (probably because they did speak English) but who were busy with their own jobs. My Plan: Allow yourself time. Wander methodically, amuse yourself reading labels, people watch, grab what they grab, and make sure you stop and smell the .......(fill in the blank, and it's not roses). You'll eventually find what you need, and probably lots more. It makes for an interesting day, and could lead to a healthy inspiration for dinner at bargain prices.

Seems to me, it is less crowded than other markets. (If I can avoid crowds, I will). It was Tet New Year season and I needed to get a few ingredients for some dishes I planned to cook. My first priority was the fresh oxtail in the meat department. I have gone to many markets for this cut and it seems this is the best place for a ~2 pound tray of mixed size tails. The fat is all trimmed off, as opposed to other markets that leave a fat layer behind that you are paying for. It also depends on if you prefer leaner tails. Next, the produce section. I picked up some cailan (Chinese broccoli). For the most part, the Asian veggies are pretty fresh - since there is a higher turnover rate of Asian veggies in this area. It was good on this day. So many varieties of green veggies, I love it! The fruit section is also pretty impressive. Papayas, guanabana, dragon fruit, pommelo, tangerines, korean pear, manzano bananas,...Not your ordinary apples and oranges. Dry goods include a plethora of rice, including Thai sweet rice, Japanese rice (perfect for sushi rice), red rice (known for high fiber and low glycemic index)... Who likes Chinese Style sausage? Me! It is called Lap Xuong, in Vietnamese. I love making Thai sweet rice and serve with thinly sliced Lap Xuong - my mom fed us kids this often! And yes, they have a good supply of this here, so stock up, it will last forever in the pantry. Vietnam is the world's second largest coffee producer. You will see the crazy amount of coffee products sold here, for example, Vinacafe. Most are packed as individual serving packets which includes cream and sugar. Too convenient for consumption! Also perfect to have in your pantry. You shall be impressed with the chili aisle. Sambal of all kinds. You can make an awesome pot of chili with this heat! Lots of Lunar New Year items too. I am sure there are still some left for purchase if you didn't have a chance to pick some up yet. They do have a liquor department too. Asians can drink iykyk. If you do, please don't drink and drive. Parking is ok, if you go shopping off peak hours. Market is on Beach Boulevard and it could get pretty busy so plan wisely. So enjoy your visit. It is always fun to discover a new product and try something you have never eaten before!

For meat, I grabbed ground beef, pork neck (currently on sale for $1.99/lb), and chicken breast. Prices were definitely reasonable. For produce, quite a few items were cheaper than H Mart, including enoki mushrooms, Japanese yam, daikon, shiitake mushrooms, tofu, and carrots. That said, the Japanese yam didn't look very fresh this time, so I ended up skipping it and buying it at H Mart instead, even though it was a bit more expensive. Some items were priced about the same as H Mart, like napa cabbage ($0.99/lb), onions ($0.39/lb), and bean sprouts ($0.99 per pack). One change I noticed is that cucumbers are now pre-packaged instead of being sold loose, so you can't pick them individually anymore. They're also slightly more expensive than H Mart now. They also had a great deal on Driscoll's strawberries, $0.99 for a 1 lb box, which is definitely worth picking up. Overall, still a great spot for affordable grocery shopping, especially if you're cooking at home and want to save a bit here and there. (visited on 3/31/2026)

The store itself is smaller if you compare it with places like Shun Fat Westminster Superstore or Hòa Bình supermarket. There is only one checkout counter and the staff all seem to be Vietnamese. They have their own seafood and meat counter with number tags where you can ask them to clean or cut fish, plus a small deli to go section. I also noticed their delivery vehicle outside that says wholesale, so it seems like they also supply restaurants in the area. Overall it feels like a neighborhood market that also does some wholesale business. The fresh section looked clean and there was no strong smell. I happened to see ground pork on sale for $2.49 per pound. The regular price was $2.79. Of course I had just paid $3.99 per pound earlier that day at 99 Ranch in Irvine because I wanted convenience. While we were there, a Vietnamese lady next to us was buying a big pile of meat and seafood and chatting with us while waiting for it to be cut. She said she always shops here.
