If you coming out of town, skip this place. Very unflavorful. I had the pho Tai and my husband had the Bun Day Hu Cien. The rest of my friends got pho and also thought it was not great. Why is the food so plain, even the fish sauce and dipping sauce are almost water like. What is going on, the only food that is good is pho or soup base meal? Seems like that's what everybody is eating. The place is crowded during late lunch so I don't know what is going on. I don't have a heavy taste bud but this food is bland asf. There are plenty of servers and they are attentive so service is the only good thing here. read more

For Vietnamese food, I think this is the best you'll find in the area. I've been eating here for at least 10 years, specifically because of the vegetarian/vegan options and the boba tea! I absolutely love the way that they fry their tofu. It is DELICIOUS! The spring rolls, vegan or not, are definitely worth the price and the very first thing I would suggest any new customer try! Their bubble tea is frozen, more like a smoothie, but the taro is amazing! The waiters are so prompt, patient and friendly. The atmosphere is casual, and the pricing is very good even in today's economy. Plus, they have take out and a drive thru! Closed on Tuesdays! It's been so long since I've been to Saigon, it must've been at least 4-5 years now. My parents and I stopped in for a late dinner on Sunday night. It was about 8:00 p.m. by the time we stopped by Saigon. We were seated immediately. We ordered a side of spring rolls and each a bowl of pho. The springs rolls were freshly made and came with a side of delicious peanut sauce. The pho was refreshing, especially after a long day. The medium was the a perfect for my appetite, not too much or too little -- just right! I went with the special which consisted of all types of meat. Again, just enough meat! The customer service was excellent! The best I've received in a very long time. I can't recall the last time that I experienced A+ service, especially for they particular time of dinner hour. I was craving some pho while in Hickory, and the family suggested this was one of their go to spots! Started with the goi cuon, or spring rolls. These were so crisp and so fresh! The peanut sauce was delicious to dip them in!!! I then ordered a #42: Pho with beef and seafood. It was very interesting. Some of the cuts of beef I'm not sure what cut it was lol ate them anyway. I've never had squid given to me in the manner the squid in here was...I was at the beginning afraid to eat it! But that would take away the adventure. My only complaint was it contained 1 shrimp only, not even a second one. Also ordered the #41: Pho with chicken and shrimp. Very delicious. The soups were all served hot. Bummed to be taking away stars from a place that has been a long time family favorite. I just learned that their amazing banh mi's were removed permanently from their menu! They were one of the items we consistently ordered, but as we were told, they simply do not have the staff or capacity to make them to meet their high demand. (I tried to hint that they should open up a separate restaurant just for banh mi's. They didn't catch it ) The other star was removed because I've been annoyed that the past 5 times I've gone (yes, I counted), they either do not have non-dairy milk on hand or they mess up my boba order. This last time I ordered a Thai Tea boba with almond milk (with tapioca pearls), and they were out of both almond and soy milk. Our waitress (always someone new), said she could just serve me straight tea over ice, which is not traditional to Thai tea, but she had no idea. I was disappointed as I was specifically craving a banh mi and a boba drink. Everything else on the menu is still stellar and deserves 5 stars. (Like their pho ) read more

Saigon Garden was an unexpected pleasant find on my recent stay in the area. Really good Vietnamese food! I was holed up in a nearby hotel working for a week and my Mom swung by to visit and suggested going out and getting dinner at nearby Saigon Garden that she and my Dad like to frequent. So we consulted the online menu and she headed down the street to place our order and bring back the vittles while I finished up my conference calls. A short time later the hotel coffee table was covered in containers of yummy. We both got Bun Thit Heo Nuong (vermicelli with grilled pork tenderloin) and Cha Goi (crispy rolls). Everything was great. Nice proportion of noodles to meat to vegetables and the place packed up plenty of sauces for us to spice things up as we wanted. The spring rolls were good too. There was some creamy sauce (almost like a cross between a dressing and Japanese mayo) packed up with the meal - not sure if it was for the rolls or the noodles but it was fantastic and totally gone. Thousands of miles and decades of time separate Pleiku, Vietnam and Conover, North Carolina, but the aromas and flavors of aromatic herbs mingled with savory meat and tender noodles melded the two in my mind and in my body at dinner tonight. The dishes served at Saigon Garden in Conover, NC took me back to a time long ago and far away in a war-torn country....and while times have changed significantly the marvelous flavors of Vietnamese cuisine have not. We began our dinner with Hu Tieu Ga (Pho) a steaming bowl of (Rice Noodle) Soup and sliced Chicken topped with the traditional add-to-your-own-liking aromatic herbs and sprouts. The portion was very, very generous (and we had only the "medium" size). Saigon Garden offers large and family-size bowls as well. Next, we shared Bun Thit Heo/Bo Nuong - Cha Gio, a (generous) bowl of vermicelli noodles ladled over a bed of sliced, crisp cucumber and crunchy lettuce, then topped with beautifully caramelized chunks of grilled pork. This particular menu item was also garnished with a fried pork Egg Roll sliced into quarter-size medallions and scattered on top. Drizzle this delectable concoction with some or all of the accompanying dish of Nc mm pha--a traditional dipping or drizzling sauce made with fish sauce, water (or lime juice) a little garlic, sugar and some minced carrots and you have a delightful, delectable entree. Saigon Garden has an extensive menu with over 50 offerings (plus desserts and drinks). The main dishes range from simple, fresh Spring Rolls or Fried Egg Rolls to a whole Roasted Duck served with rice or vermicelli rice noodles. I gave Saigon Garden 4 stars because in my opinion, they are not authentic Vietnamese cuisine. I grew up eating here and I've discovered other restaurants that I like better and are more authentic, but I still like to eat here from time to time. They also have plenty of other options to eat if you're not craving pho! If you live in the hickory/Conover area, you should definitely check this place out, they have great service and awesome lunch specials! I got the #34 pho, which is rare beef and meatballs and also spring rolls with peanut dipping sauce. Also, don't be alarmed by the rare beef, the broth is so hot that it actually cooks the beef before you even eat it! The spring rolls are a MUST as an appetizer, my boyfriend and I always get them! I have been eating here for many years now and always enjoy the food and staff. There are plenty options to choose from like Pho to American inspired dishes. The Pho for which I have not had, but friends have, say it is good and they have all the condiments with it (Fish Sauce, Vegetables, other sauces). The other dishes include a meat and rice dishes and meat and rice noodle bowls. I usually get the Chicken/Steak/Shrimp dish with a side of rice and egg roll. Other dishes I usually purchase is the Chicken/Steak/Shrimp rice noodle bowl with vegetables. The have several drinks from tea, bubble tea, coffee and other Vietnamese drinks. The also have spring rolls and other appetizers. Although some of the dishes seem Americanized, especially the above mentioned Meat dishes with rice and the Fried rice dishes. I believe the cater well to the authentic cuisine because a lot of the local Asian community eat there regularly. The owners are always there and very nice. The prices range from $8-10 a plate. Their Pho is pretty good. The one down-side I found is that they had pre-made noodles packed into the bottom of bowls. They put boiling hot broth on top, but there was a wad of noodles that I had to pry apart in the bottom of the bowl. A pleasing surprise were the pork egg rolls. These were very "pork" flavored, unlike any I've had before. Just strong, full, pork flavor. They make a comparable chicken fried rice, to the Pho 777 location, but over-all, when both Saigon Garden and Pho 777 are open for business, I would lean to the other place. Pleasantly stuffed! I've been here before two years ago and was surprised to see a Vietnamese restaurant in the area. We enjoyed the pho here back then so we decided since we were in the area we would come back. I yelped first and was discouraged by the other reviews but alas we are here. I ordered Vietnamese coffee with ice which was delish. An order each of the fried and fresh rolls that came with dipping sauces. The rolls were very good and the dipping sauces (although different than what I'm used to) complimented the rolls nicely. I ordered a medium bowl of Pho Dac Biet and my hubbie ordered a large. (Really our bowls were the same size) The broth was different but aromatic and flavorful. The amount of meat in the bowls was impressive and plentiful, seriously the most meat I have ever seen in a bowl. Out of probably 1,000 bowls of pho this one had so much of my favorite cuts like tendon and tripe. I kept finding more and more. We are full and happy and headed to the mountains. Rewriting my review of this restaurant per Yelp. However I still stand by my statements. This place is a poor excuse of Asian /Viet food. My party ordered a vermicelli bowl with grilled pork. It came out with hunks of flavorless dry pork chop cut into small pieces, watered down fish sauce on the side , and a brown thick paste declared peanut sauce. The pho we received was again, lacking in something we call FLAVOR...however it did deliver on murky brown tinted broth aspect. If you're looking for a place to piss away money go to Saigon Garden. My husband had the vegetarian chicken broth pho which had a sad excuse for some vegetables in it with a flavor-less broth and I had the shrimp pho with beef broth. Tasted like soap. And I LOVE ME SOME PHO! I told the waitress the pho was not good and tasted like soap and she took it away for me. But listen, here's the kicker!! This review is for my sit-down experience. My mom and I ordered both ordered a small pho #39. It comes with rare beef, well-done beef, beef meatball, and tendon. We also ordered an order of spring rolls and chicken fried rice. The spring rolls looked small, but two for $3.69? Not a bad price. The pho was slightly oily, but still good! The chicken fried rice this time was disappointing. I have had their chicken fried rice plenty of times from takeout or from friends bringing me some. It was dry this time and not as flavorful as it usually is. They have bottles of shrimp sauce, and I like their version of shrimp sauce. The service was good - attentive waitresses! read more

Unfortunately, the Vietnamese food at Saigon Garden is really Americanized. The shrimp summer roll appetizers weren't memorable; rather than being filled with fragrant mint and basil, they contained wilted iceberg lettuce. Takeout bún vermicelli noodles came with chicken pieces coated in flour and deep-fried rather than barbecued and therefore lacking the signature grilled Asian flavours. The noodles also came with a pile of shredded iceberg lettuce rather than the typical crunchy carrots and cucumber, with no additional herbs. I ordered number 42 on the menu, beef and seafood combo. Nowhere on the description did it say half the bowl would be filled with fatty tendons and cow stomach as I would not have ordered it. When I told my server I did not want it she spoke to the management and they said I would have to pay for it and another if I wanted something else. After that we didn't see our server again. I have never had this happen at a restaurant. I will never go back and suggest everyone do the same. I would rate my experience in the negative if I could. read more
