I'm echoing what a lot of other people have said here, but the care my daughter receives at Saida's Little People is outstanding. We started taking her there when she was just 10 weeks old. I had a mixture of emotions at having to take her to daycare so young, but all of the caregivers made me feel at ease, and still do several months later. What I like about SLP is that they are always open to my feedback and are open to trying new things to get my child to eat better, sleep better, etc. It feels that they are part of my team - it takes a village, right? The center is clean and organized, and I appreciate that they don't let anyone wear shoes in the infant area or on the carpeted area where the toddlers go. I get a daily report on when she ate, slept and had a diaper change. But best yet the center is full of love and caring staff. I highly recommend Saida's Little People! read more

My son just finished up 4 years of being at Saida's and we are so thankful he went there. We picked him up from his first day at kindergarten and his teacher said she can tell he went to preschool. Many many thanks go to Saida, Bina, and Subiha for taking good care of him and making sure he is learning at the appropriate level, despite being the oldest at the school. They genuinely love the kids and my son's happiness and preparedness for kindergarten shows that. Well, I really don't know what to say about this place. Our daughter has been at Saida's for a month and I wish we never tried this place. The staff was mean. They don't even smile. Most of them do not speak English and the place is poorly managed. While our baby was there, we saw a lot of crying babies and nobody was taking care of them. The place was dark and disorganized. Toodler and infant room was so small. There was not enough ventilation as well but I think the biggest problem is safety. Children/Teacher ratio is so high (for example in infant room ratio was 8:1). I don't know what would happen if there was an emergency. The infant door was always open and there was no lock on the door. So anyone can walk in. Have no idea how this place passed the inspection. Overall you can't see any professionalism here. Yes, tuition is low when comparing to some other childcare centers but it is better to pay more to put your children in a safe, stimulating environment. read more

One of the sweetest caregivers for children. She has an incredible touch and intuition with the little people that I picked up on immediately upon arrival. The place is no frills but the love procured is very special. We used her facility for my 4-year old for its drop in daycare option because of AISD's staggered Pre-K start and it was an excellent alternative for this otherwise difficult week of childcare debacles! I have debated writing this review for several months, but think it needs to be done to even out the other voices. I tried Saida's against my instincts in large part because it had such positive reviews online. I'm not one who thinks everything needs to be clinically clean for it to be safe and enriching. I let my baby dig through the dirt at the playground to her heart's content. But Saida's isn't just a bit run down, it's really poorly managed. I get the feeling that Saida is a wonderful woman who loves taking care of children, but doesn't know how to run a business and hasn't kept up with the increasing amount of regulations in the daycare industry. It is not enough anymore to just take care of babies as you would your own grandchildren in your own home. The first red flag was that the paperwork for starting at Saida's was a one-sheet document that didn't even ask for any emergency contact info. I wrote it in myself. The second red flag is that they never mentioned immunization records. The third red flag was that they charged about half what the other daycares in the area charge. This is a double-edged sword as it means childcare is affordable to people who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford it, but it also means that Saida doesn't seem to have the financial resources to handle the high volume of kids she now has in her care. This is reflected in the staff, the facility, and the child/caregiver ratio The biggest red flag, though, is that my happy, social baby was always crying when I came to pick her up. Either scream-crying or softly sobbing in her sleep after passing out from excessive crying earlier. I know she's a demanding baby, and as a first time mama just thought she was overly attached - but now that I've been at a better center, I know this isn't the case. Now every time I go to pick her up she is happy, smiling, and busy learning. Her caretakers comment on how sweet, affectionate, and cheerful she is on a regular basis. At Saida's, the infants were always in a pretty small, dark room with a lot of other kids. At the place we're at now, they move from one room to another at one point during the day, in a smaller group for part of the day a larger group with more caretakers the other, and get some outside time, weather permitting, including "splash days" in the summer. My baby is happy and well-stimulated and comes home with new skills. Go check out txchildcare.org - look at the citations against Saida's, look at the other daycares in the area for comparison. The violations are not one-time things, there were blankets on sleeping kids' heads every time I went in, and there was hardly ever an adult in the "crib room" where the infants were sleeping. You have to assume the staff is on their best behavior during an inspection, and still there are so many violations - even after they were put on probation. On a related note, I didn't even notice the probation notice as the "must be displayed" big red flyer was conveniently placed where the infant door, when open, blocked it. The infant door was often open when parents were coming in for pickup/drop off. There are better options out there. They are expensive, but I have learned through this that it just takes more than what Saida charges to provide a safe, stimulating environment that I can trust with my cherished child. I would love to see Saida raise her prices, hire an office manager that can whip the place into shape, and not be dependent on such a high volume of kids to make ends meet. She seems like a kind, hardworking woman. read more

We have had an excellent experience at Saida's Little People. Saida and her staff have looked after my son, who is now 3, since he was an infant. His little sister now goes there as well. I found the school through word of mouth, as several of my coworkers had send their children there. There are so many reasons I would recommend this school. The top one for me is the love, affection, and care that the staff gives to each child. It is a family atmophere and that really appeals to me. The other top draw is the lack of staff turnover. Most of the teachers at the school have been there for some 10 years and I like the fact that my children have not had to deal with a string of new teachers. It is a smaller school and it is really nice to know all of the teachers, other parents, and all the kids. When I was deciding on a daycare, I visited some where I got the vibe that they couldn't have cared less about me or my child and we were just another number. That's not the case at Little People. It's true that the school is not fancy, but everything is neat and clean and organized, and the kids love it and feel like it is their home away from home. Saida, who is a teacher in the baby room and also the owner, also babysits our children and they feel extremely comfortable with her. All in all, I highly recommend this school. I feel lucky that I found a daycare where I have such trust and confidence in the caregivers. read more

Saida's Little People is a fantastic day care - I recommend the place without reservation. Both my sons started at SLP when they were infants and stayed there several years (2003-2007) until they were old enough to enter pre-K at a Montessori school, so I know the school well. And since my kids have left SLP, Saida herself is still my main go-to person for babysitting on a regular basis. The kids love her, and you can't find anyone more trustworthy to babysit your kids than their former day care provider. SLP is a small daycare housed in a converted house just off Hancock Road near Burnet (close but around the corner from the Austin Cooperative School). The wonderful, loving staff of SLP remained largely the same for both my kids during their entire time there and are still there today. That says a lot about SLP - most day cares have big problems with staff retention, which is hard when the kids get attached to someone only to have them leave - over and over again. One thing I should mention is that the physical space isn't fancy, and sometimes people are a little taken aback by the fact that the place seems a bit "run down." If you like you day cares all sparkly new, this is probably not going to appeal. But seriously, superficial appearances should not be the way to pick a day care for your child -- the most important thing is the quality of caregivers, and that Saida's LP has in spades. I also like SLP because it is a small local independent business run by a phenomenally hard-working recent immigrant to the US, and I am glad to be able to support that too. Note that SLP gives her staff paid time off for one week in July and one week in December. That means you still pay for a full month for those two months, but have to work out other arrangements for those two weeks. To me, that is a small price to pay for having happy staff - treat them humanely and they will stay. SLP is great - highly recommend. read more

My son attended Saida's daycare for over two years. And, I am about to enroll my four months old daughter. Saida and her staff took good care of my son and he loves Saida, Bina and Sabina. Saida will always be at the door whenever I drop off or pick up my son, she will greet and give him a hug. If you are looking for an environment that's safe and loving, I highly recommend this child care center. And, if you are looking for a place where your kid is not just a number then definitely go with Saida because your child will get the one o one care. I have nothing but wonderful experience with this child center and I don't regret enrolling my son. Same reason why I am also enrolling my daughter. We were asked to leave this daycare after expressing concern for our daughters safety and care. One afternoon we picked up our daughter and she had a red mark on her eye; not her eye lid, actually on the white part of her eye ball. The employee that gave her to my wife said she did not know how it happened. I called Saida's (she answered) and asked to speak with her. She said she was not available even though it was her on the phone. I questioned the situation and she explained that my daughter fell and hit her eye on a swing. I get it; accidents happen but we should have been called immediately. We had to take her to Dell's Children Emergency Room to have her eye tested. The next day Saida told my wife I was rude and mean to her when I called. This is my daughter, Saida, and I'm a father who CARES. No parent wants to pick up their child with an eye injury and have to spend 4 hours at an ER listening to their child cry. A simple apology would have been nice. A call to inform us would have been nice. Respect would have been nice. Every time we picked our daughter up, she was strapped to a chair. Great care giving; strap 'um to a chair. Our daughter is 10 months old at this time and very active; walking around. She's not the "strap to a chair" type. We continued taking her there because we've been waiting for our acceptance at another daycare (on waiting list) and we both have to work. The following week we picked her up with the worse diaper rash; they did not change her diaper, probably all day. Our daughter had diarrhea and was not allowed back at the daycare (per their rules). The lack of respect and communication with us is why I rate this place with a 1 star. I'm a realist and know accidents and situations are going to happen; especially with small children who are walking clumsy and into everything. I think it's wise to keep parents in the loop of what's going on; especially injuries that require medical attention. Our son has been going to Saida's full time since he was 7 weeks old. Like any first time mom, I was scared to leave my baby with anyone else. But Saida comforted me, gave me a hug and told me they would take good care of my baby. He's now 6 months old and we couldn't be happier. They love him and play with him. I receive a report every day with his nap times, diaper change times, whether he was wet or poopy and when/how much he ate. They are very flexible with feeding times and always accommodate our wishes. I came one time in the middle of the day, and was pleased to find one of the workers on the ground playing with him and making him laugh. It is a family atmosphere, with a lot of love! Our daughter has been going to Saida's Little People since she was 3 months old and I am so happy with our experience so far. My daughter loves all of the women here and they love our kids just as much. I love the home atmosphere and the appreciation all of these women have for the individual personalities of all the children there. It should be said that my child does not go to this daycare, nor would they ever go to this center. My husband and I went to look at this daycare center and were confounded as to how this center would have a 5 star rating. I worked in childcare and as a teacher for over a decade, and so I am pretty familiar with industry standards. First, the staff seemed completely uninterested in us or our child. Upon entering my husband saw a big red sign posted on the wall saying, "Notice - On probation." The notice listed a website and so we went to look when we got home. This center has been cited for 26 serious failures of standards in childcare. First, the owner doesn't do background checks on the staff. She has been cited for this multiple times, and still this year received citations for it. One of the basic compliance standards is that infants must ALWAYS be supervised. They didn't even met that standard. This place is a horrible accident waiting to happen. I have to disagree with one of the reviewers here. There's nothing "scary" about Saida's. To anybody who's concerned about the safety or the level of care provided here, I'll offer one quick anecdote. When my son was about 18 months old, he slipped in our kitchen at home and fell. The doctor -- a well-educated, reliable pediatrician of good repute -- saw nothing wrong with him and suggested he may have sprained his knee. One hip and one knee X-ray later, my son was back at Saida's -- and completely unwilling to walk. The next day, I got a call from Saida in the middle of the afternoon. "It's not his knee," she said. "It's his ankle." She'd noticed that he'd been fine to crawl (putting pressure on the knee) but wouldn't stand. A pediatric orthopedist confirmed that our son had taken a chip off the end of his tibia (ouch), and in short order he was in a cast and happily toddling around Saida's day care again. Saida -- not our doctor, and not the radiologist -- was the reason my son wasn't in pain for longer, coping with an untreated injury. She's vigilant, she's perceptive, she has a natural feel for the way kids behave, and she cares. A LOT. It's not something you can learn in a licensing manual, and it's not something you can document in a form that you post on your door, but it's infinitely more important. read more

Saida's Little People is where both of my children spent their pre-school days. As mentioned in other reviews, it's not fancy. However, Saida and her staff are very loving and caring, and I get the sense that the children (mine and others) feel very at home when they are there. I lived in Allendale for 12+ years and I feel like Saida's Little People is alot like the neighborhood around it. It's more substance than style...meaning that the house is a bit run down, but the teachers really care about the kids and that shows. I would hope that if you were considering it, at least go in and visit before you judge a book by it's cover. I had my kids a total of 5 years (between the 2 of them) and they loved it. They are both TAG students now in 4th and 2nd grade. They also both like to go back and visit and have even spent time as "drop offs" recently and been very at home. This place is a great bargain with loving, low-turnover staff. The other reviewers were pretty thorough and I agree with all the good things. I have two kids here and they love it. Except for the July/Dec holidays, every other day off is pretty much just postal holidays that everywhere is closed. SLP closed way less than friends' kids day cares; I have one friend who has used this day care for drop-in when her kid's regular one is closed for this and that. Don't expect the toys to glitter and shine. Everything's SAFE, but things can look secondhand because they are. Saida is pretty flexible if you want a MWF schedule rather than 5 days and then still using drop-in Tuesdays and Thursdays, flexible schedules. I don't think she lets you do half-day at reduced rate, though...? I'll add that I've been pleased with the getting-on-to-pre-K lessons my 2.5-year-old son has been learning from Tina. I didn't teach him circle, or the letter A, etc. Many people do pull their kids by age 3 or soon after (or before) to put into Montessorri or pre-K or something, but I haven't yet felt the need. -cha read more

Saida definitely has a way with the little ones and the new addition to the infant room, Julia, is fantastic too. They also charge the most reasonable prices in Central Austin. Our twins have been at Saida's for almost a year. We might never have heard of the place, but our neighbors (both former social workers) recommended it because their daughter spent her infant years with Saida. I won't debate Emily's post point by point, but I will say that we and our children have had a very different experience than Emily and her child did, starting with her lack of paperwork (it took two adults more than 30 minutes to fill ours out last February). Here's what we love about this home away from home for our children: 1) The caregivers have all been there for many years. Turnover in this business is a huge issue, and Saida has managed to keep the same teachers there for decades or more. I refuse to believe they stay because of the incredible pay and prestige of working in a daycare. They are dedicated to the kids and it shows. 2) We know and like the other families. There is something special about a place where the kids give their teacher a hug before leaving every day, or where the owner calls the parents' house at night to check on a child who's not feeling well. We have had experience with a larger, much more expensive pre-school, and we never got that kind of personal care. 3) The children and the staff are diverse. The entire world is not white or Christian; we appreciate that our twins are exposed to different religions and cultures. And most important: 4) Saida is our twins' Bangladeshi grandmother. They literally squeal in the morning because they are so excited to see her. I don't know how newer toys or a nicer building could possibly make them happier. read more

I just wanted to update my review - my son has been at Saida's for over a year now. He loves it and we love all of the caregivers there. They've had all the same caregivers in the year we have been there which is huge for a daycare - turnover is always so high at others. Saida is like a grandma to my son - he can't leave without a hug and a high five. He's always happy when I drop him off and when I pick him up. Choosing a daycare for our first child was one of the most difficult decisions we had to make. Fortunately, we had many friends who had their children in daycare. We used these recommendations to start our search. We had two friends that had their children at Saida's and were very happy with the care their babies and toddlers were receiving. After touring several daycares, we did not have one that won us over. However, we had the knowledge of the care my friends' children received at Saida's. What do we love about Saida's? Our children are both well cared for. When our baby isn't feeling well, Saida knows. When he is out sick, she calls to check in on him. She loves the babies with all her heart. Our older son graduated out of Saida's room and loves Ms. Pam and his other teachers very much. He talks about his teachers and friends all the time. We also love that there is a diverse group of children. Of course there are days that he doesn't want us to leave him. When we have those days, he quickly cheers up at the sight of his teacher and friends. When we pick him up he is almost always laughing. Some of the previous reviews had valid concerns of paperwork, and managing the business end of the daycare. These were a little concerning to us as well, however Saida has hired a director who has done a great job with organizing and managing some of the operational procedures. We're starting our third week at Saida's and we literally do not have enough good things to say about her and her staff! I've never felt more comfortable about leaving my babies with anybody. My daughter started at Saida's when she was 3 months old. We've tried a bigger more school-like daycare since and returned to Saida's with my now 3 year old daughter and 2 month old son. We will be moving south soon and have to leave Saida's, but we never had any issues and Saida and her staff were very loving. The facility is not shiny or new, but I know she loves the kids. I found the infant room to be the best because Saida herself is in that room and the other teachers are loving as well. I don't think rules and regulations are Saida's strong point, but taking care of kids like her own is. Saida and I always figure things out, but communication can be lacking there, just because of the language barrier I believe. To be fair, communication was lacking at the other daycare we tried too, but that was because it was chaotic and I don't feel anyone cared. Not so at Saida's. That being said, with the communication barrier Saida failed to mention to me some of the cool things they do over there- a music teacher comes in to teach a class on Fridays and they currently have a spanish speaking teacher in the toddler class who is practicing spanish with them. Also, Saida's pricing is great and the classroom ratios are low just because it's a small facility. Most days when I drop my kids off there are only 3-5 babies with 2 teachers in the infant room and 1 teacher with 4-6 toddlers in the older room. Since it's so small it's a family environment and I hug Saida everyday when I pick my kids up. So overall i would give Saida's 4 stars for the infant room and 3 stars for the older classroom. Certain parents would be okay with this casual, rough around the edges type of daycare and some wouldn't, but for my family it's worked out great and I now know what a good thing Saida has going at this facility. read more

We love Saida's. We're on our second child there and wouldn't hesitate to bring another. Saida's truly loves children. She's runs this business out of love - not for the money. The environment is nurturing. At being said her facilities are run down and a bit dated. Saida is from Bangladesh and her cultural mannerisms are a bit different. She's a matter of fact kind of woman. If you visit you won't receive a grand tour and attempt to be sold on the place. But if you do bring your child there, every day they'll leave with a big warm hug from a woman that is more like a grandmother than a daycare provider If this is important to you than check Saida's out. I can't say enough good things about Saida's Little People. We have taken our daughter there since she was about 11 weeks old. I have the highest trust in Saida and her staff. They are very caring and clearly interested in my daughter's well being. Every morning when I drop her off they are happy to see her. They always check in with me in the mornings and when I pick her up in the afternoons to make sure they/I know what has been going on with her, if there is anything we need to discuss, etc. The majority of the staff has been there for 3+ years and I like knowing that my daughter isn't constantly having to adjust to new caregivers (something I've heard can be common at other daycares). We are moving soon and Saida's is going to be less convenient as far as location goes, but I wouldn't even consider taking our daughter somewhere else. It's that wonderful of a place. I will say (and agree with some previous reviews) that from the outside, Saida's Little People is not all shiny and new. But that's the least important aspect of a daycare to me (as long as everything is clean and safe, which it most definitely is). read more

We had my son at Saida's since he was two months old until he was 2 years old. Saida is incredibly hard working and is especially good with babies. She is attentive and loving, and has an incredible amount of experience. In our family, we call her the "baby whisperer". We are now bringing our infant twins to her and can be confident they will be well looked after. (With three kids, we also appreciate the fact that her daycare isn't ridiculously expensive!) The senior staff for the 18mo and 2-3 year old rooms have been there for years. Yes, the place could use some renovation- and yes, the place does have citations. I've noticed that the infractions are not especially serious. I'm not excusing her, but weigh it with a grain of salt. Saida knows babies and would never allow anything to happen to the little ones in her charge. If you are looking for a small daycare in a house-like environment, this is the place. read more

Both of my babies are graduates of Saida's "baby room". Saida and her staff are talented gifted with the babies, toddlers, and caregivers. We probably had our children there for 4 years total and never had any negative experience. I have fond memories from Saida tickling my baby's toes as she nursed to almost getting "expelled" from the toddler room for "biting". The reason she was biting is because she didn't have verbal skills. Little People gave us homework and 2 weeks to teach our daughter how to say "NO! Move away friend" so she had some other resource besides her teeth. It took about a week, working our homework every evening, but she didn't get suspended. For comments about seeing "crying babies", I suggest that prospective parents spend some time in the baby room and observe. Just sit in a corner and watch. Just before feeding or snack time, it will get a bit noisy and then a few minutes later all peace is restored as each babies' needs are met. As with any people or service oriented business, there is an ebb and flow. Staff that don't work out, etc. But if you are looking for a national chain then Little People is not the place for you and you will not be happy there. Saida's LIttle People is a small family oriented daycare. This is the environment that we wanted for our babies. Again, I recommend that you visit the daycare and see for yourself and make your own decision. It was what we wanted but it might not be right for everyone. If you have a chance to get to know Saida herself, you will find out that she is an extremely courageous, caring, and smart woman. While there, I was surprised to find out that Saida made an "A" in these courses, outperforming our younger native speakers. read more

Like any new "working" mother, I was terrified to leave my 7-8 week old baby with "strangers". I cried the day I was signing him up and the day I dropped him off for the first day. Saida, who is the owner and our "hanai" grandmother (* hanai = 'adoptive' in Hawaiian), asked me why I was crying. I told her I was so nervous and scared to leave him and I felt guilty. She said the best words to me. "Why? We are family here". I didn't believe her in that moment, but I don't see it any other way now. My Son has been going there for 1 year now. They are MOST definitely our family. I can't say enough amazing things about the staff there. They genuinely love our kids. They hug and kiss them and make them feel loved and teach them to share and play and explore. Saida and her staff love my son and my son jumps off of me to hug them when we arrive. You can't ask for anything more than that. Saida told me she's been there for over 25 years! I would rather my son grow up in her humble, beautiful, loving space than any corporate, high turn over, big daycare. We are so grateful and happy to be a part of this family. read more

My son began attending SLP about 2 months ago and seems to love it thus far. I love the fact it issmall and intimate in a converted house (as opposed to some of the a lot larger national chains). Saida greets my son every morning and always makes sure to say goodbye to him everyday. I've quickly learned most nearly all of the other children's names and it just feels like a god neighborhood daycare. Of note should be they do close for two weeks - one week in July and one week in December, which are not pro-rated, so if you don't have a friend or family member to watch your child if you cannot, you still pay for those two months and you would have to find (and pay for) alternate care as well. Can not say enough great things about this daycare. I know people have had their run ins with certain situations with their kids; it's going to happen. But Saida's is a safe and loving place. My wife and I are currently researching Child care centers for our 3 month old. I called to get a feel for how the staff sounded and to get pricing because for some reason I could not get to it online. FIRST the lady that answered was extremely rude and couldn't hardly speak English and acted like it was an inconvenience for her to answer the phone and wouldn't really speak to me. Our daughter was at Saida's Little People (SLP) for about a year, first in the infant room and then in the toddlers, and we were very happy with the level of care she received. We have tried other facilities, with both of our children, and while no daycare is perfect, we felt SLP provided a caring, relaxing atmosphere with teachers who really care about the kids. The only reason we moved our daughter from SLP is because there was an opening in pre-primary at the Montessori school our older daughter attends. Both of my children spent the first two years of their lives at Saida's Little People, and our family feels beyond lucky to have Saida and her school right in our neighborhood. We call Saida the "baby whisperer" because of her intuition and ability to put babies and kids at ease. She is kind, loving, and is like a third grandmother to our children. She also babysits and has been our go-to sitter for years. The school itself is clean and regularly maintained. There is a huge selection of toys and activities and two great outdoor spaces for play time. A guest music teacher visits each Friday for music and dance class, which is a huge hit with the 1-3 year olds! Saida has several staff who have been around for years. Ms. Pam is in the 1-2 year old room and is fantastic. She communicates well with parents and is super loving with the kids. I recommend Saida's Little People without hesitation! read more
