Carlyn is a professional hair colorist. My hair was previously bleached and tuned orange and then dyed brown and turned red. I was mortified. Spent $800 at another salon and still orange, uneven color, and VERY brassy. Came into the salon for a consultation and scheduled an appointment. This was more than a color correction for me. This was a transformation. Walked out with a balayage highlight. I believe she used three toners to correct the brassiness. It worked! I have had my hair colored nearly my entire life and this is by far the best color I've ever had. Bring in a picture of want you and she will absolutely match it. Very talented color artist. Haircut and style by Brent. Really the best ever. The true test of a great haircut is a few days later. After washing, applying leave-in serum and texturizing spray, I loved my hair! I had been following Brent on Instagram for quite a while before I was able to get my haircut with him, as I live in Chicago. The entire experience was great! What you see in the videos is really what happens during your consultation. Brent listens to you, and he also is very straight if he thinks something you have in mind for your cut won't work with your hair type, etc. Even though I just scheduled a haircut, he made some recommendations on my color as well, and used a temporary rinse to add dimension to my blonde. The salon has a hip vibe, but it is also welcoming. They play excellent music, have good coffee, and assistant Jess gave me a great shampoo service. Hope I can get back soon! read more

I recommend Relentless Barbers over by the airport. It's a nice space and when I walked in there were two women who were so friendly and attentive. I asked if they could trim my long layered hair and one said "sure, come on in!" She did a great job and only charged me $50. 10/2020 Brent is obviously very skilled at cutting hair. He cut mine exactly they way I wanted it. Studio has a lovely ambiance too, and friendly people. I'd recommend it! Update 4/2022 I've been seeing Brent for cuts about 2 years now. I only cut my hair every 6 months. I have long layered hair and I am very specific about how I want it to look. I did a good amount of research before deciding on Sagebrush. When I first scheduled this salon online they asked me what I would expect to pay for a haircut, and because I wanted the best possible experience and this being a high-end salon in El Paseo, I said $100. That is exactly what Brent charged me every time except the last. I was not told in advance that prices went up and when my cut was done, perfectly as usual, he charged me $170. I was shocked! Not only was I not warned in advance, but I can't justify paying $170 for a haircut. Its not even a fancy cut. It's basically just a trim!I'm not a wealthy person but even if I was I wouldn't be willing to pay that much for a haircut. I was completely blindsided by the owner of the salon. I should have been informed that he raised his fees by 70% right? Has this happened to anyone else? Needless to say I won't be going back. I'm sorry to have to say this. Apparently they have moved out of the expensive neighborhood and into their new location. I wonder if they charged me so much to help cover their costs of making the move? I have no idea why because explanation was given. They stayed in business during the pandemic and I was told that business was still pretty steady so I don't think they were desperate to recoup lost income due to that. Bottom line is that what was done to me is not a good or ethical business practice. If they are doing this kind of thing on a regular basis I don't see how they will retain good clients. I guess they must have enough wealthy clientele to be able to get away with it. read more

Let me start by saying I am the worlds biggest critic and if I wasn't constantly consumed with being a mom and getting distracted at home, I would be constantly reviewing every place I ever went on here. However, I am taking time to write this review because I recently moved to Palm Desert from Orange County and freaked out when I had to find new places to go to. ESPECIALLY my hair. I have always been the client that no one wants because I am so picky about everything, cut, color, tone, placement you name it. So finding a hair salon I've never been to, never heard of, not recommended my a friend but found only from Yelp was a HUGE deal to me. I noticed there weren't many posts and reviews and was nervous, but the work spoke for itself so I definitely felt that I should go and I'm THRILLED I did. It's the cutest salon, located in El Paseo (not a busy loud environment or a hotel like I was finding in my search), it is a quiet, relaxing salon where Carlyn is the colorist and her husband Brent (who is a Master stylist) cuts the hair. They are so talented and so sweet it's refreshing. They know what they are doing and have been in the industry for over 15 years and have been so successful they opened their own location together. I usually do not go to hairstylists who aren't in bigger salons, but it's different when you're so good you can own your own. They are picky and diligent in every aspect of their trade. From the level of classes they take to the hours of training that is so impressive and matters to me when stylists continue learning. Lastly, they try and accommodate everyone and their schedules even though they are busy. I appreciate that, because being home with my kids and husband at work, my times and days are limited and they have always squeezed me in. I did ask about the reviews and they said they never ask anyone to do it or want to make people feel that they have to, which is even MORE the reason I wanted to write this for them. I absolutely loved how my hair has turned out and felt that it was EXACTLY what I asked for and not a "version" of it. The expertise of Carlyn's balayage, highlighting and her certification in Habit hand tied extensions is INCREDIBLE. Brent knows what he's doing with cuts and doesn't want you walking away freaking out and isn't into pushing his style on anyone, he just knows shape and has an eye for this stuff, I fully trusted him and couldn't have been more pleased with the shape of my hair and how he still cleaned up all my dead ends but leaving my hair looking full and long which is EVERYTHING to me. Can't say enough good things about Brent and Carlyn or this salon and the level of work you'll get from them. Your hair is a big deal and I don't take it lightly, so I'm beyond grateful for them. Parking is easy, location is wonderful and the salon products to vibe is relaxing and chill. Best blonde I've ever had! Been here 3 times and each time my results are consistently 5 stars. Val is so talented! It is a pleasure to be in her chair and her work is patient and precise. The studio is darling. Cute, clean, smells like Joshua Tree candles! Bubbly water offered, and great products used for the whole process. If I could give this place zero stars I would. I have never gotten a worst hair cut in my life, it has actually started to effect my emotional and mental wellness. I can barely look at myself in the mirror and am having to wear hats everywhere I go, if I go anywhere at all because I am so embarrassed. I just moved to the area, and decided to give this place a shot, and was absolutely impressed when I walked into the place. It was beautifully decorated and the staff were very nice. The guy who cut my hair, sat me down and we began to talk about ideas for my hair. I initially wanted to cut it short, as I am a new mother and have a four month old daughter and needed something super low maintenance. I also wanted more volume and a slimming look. He showed me an idea he had, which were curtain bangs and said it's not much of a commitment. So I assumed that meant, a center parted long sexy whispey curtain bang, that was not at all a full bang whatsoever. He then asked if he could take a before and after , I said ok. He then began to cut, and i started to get pretty nervous when he went in to cut the bang and my layers. I whole heartedly in the moment felt like a bowl cut was being cut, and when he went in for the bangs he cut a lot of bangs. I was again, nervous because I hate bangs, but wanted to let him style it. He then styled me, and the haircut looked so impractical and ridiculous in the end. I am a 33 year old mother, and am a client facing pr professional, not some 21 year old emo scenester girl or something. The cut didn't match my lifestyle or me whatsoever. He didn't listen to my wishes at all, he did what he wanted to do in order to achieve the look he wanted for his "after" shot. So fast forward to coming home, I had a complete panic attack when I noticed the bangs he did cut are completely uneven. He didn't even cut the bangs right! I have attached pictures of just how uneven they are... I had long beautiful hair that I spend three or so years growing, and he completely ruined it. He butchered me. I barely leave the house because I am so embarrassed, it is actually affecting my quality of living. I would do anything to feel good again... I want to spare people the misery my life has become and I am enduring right now, and write this review warning people not to go here and to find somewhere else. Carlyn is a wonderful colorist and I love their new hair salon; however, I had a bad experience with Brent styling my hair. I have a lot of hair and it's thick. I know blow drying it and making it look smooth takes a while but it's been done. I felt Brent rushed through my hair and did not care when I told him I did not like the way he was curling my hair, his response: "oh you've never seen that before?" No. And bottom line is I didn't like the way he was curling it (also I was not paying for my hair to be curled, I asked for a blow dry). After a short time he said he was done. The end product was my hair looking frizzy and untamed. I would love for Carlyn to color my hair again but may not return, due to, the stylist and his poor attitude. They did not charge me for the styling which was not my intention AT ALL. However, I am glad I didn't have to pay for something I was very unhappy about. read more
