Stylist did not listen as I explained how I wanted my hair cut. I have learned through the years that people who cut your hair generally don't listen, and cut hair according to their experience and comfort level, as opposed to actually listening to what you personally want- I do not recommend this salon. It's hard to find someone talented to cut your hair. Won't return- Still looking for that kind, patient stylist who listens, and has skills. The good news...my hair will eventually grow back. I believe this is a common complaint with a lot of people too. The cut and color she did was amazing, she did exactly what I asked for. We stumbled across Casita studio by accident! They have a cozy waiting room comfortable chairs! My husband received a haircut and was so pleased! Usually he would have to run home and shower! I called at 2pm on a Friday and there was no answer. Since I was close by, I walked across the street to find a stylist taking a break in the front room. I asked if they had any openings today or tomorrow for hair and/or nails and was informed the manicurist (also the owner) was away for 2 weeks, and they rarely work Saturdays, so no one could cut my hair either. The woman was very nice and polite, and obviously I didn't have a service so I can't speak to the quality. However, having no manicurist on staff over Mother's Day is bizarre (who knows the reason for the travel, could've been an emergency) and no weekend hours (other than at the hair stylist's discretion, who knows when that might be), and no one answering the phone in the middle of a week day left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I'm sure this place is great if you know two weeks in advance that you want your hair done, or you have a regular hair stylist who you work with. But for someone who found them on Yelp while looking for a good local salon, I was not impressed. Edited to add: I noticed on the Yelp page for this business it clearly says Saturday, 8-4pm. You might want to update that since someone stopping by on a Saturday would be pretty annoyed to find no one there. read more

What can I say? The building is absolutely beautiful. Impressively decorated. There are drinks and snacks available while you wait and during your appointment. The music is not over loud. My stylist is Jake. He does incredible work. Took my salon done red and turned it into a gorgeous blonde that was still healthy and soft in one sitting. He just seems to know hair, like an intuition. I never have to worry about what he will do with the style and cut because it always looks incredible. Jake also puts up with my indecisive ways. I am constantly bored with my hair. He took that same gorgeous blonde and turned it into a delicious looking dark brunette/red ombre. When the red faded and I slacked and didn't go back to have it filled in, the ombre still looked incredible with the blonde revealed. In fact, I haven't wanted him to recolor it because I like it as it is so much now. The owner, Johna, is just a gem. She is the manicurist as well, and while I haven't had my nails done personally, I am constantly hearing wonderful things about her. Overall, Casita Studios is a beautiful, relaxing place where you can rest easy knowing you are in trustworthy hands. read more

I'm a snowbird that lives in the high rent district of Chicago where the top hair stylists work and I have yet to find anyone as good as Vicki. She is truly outstanding. Prior to finding her a couple of years ago, I would allow my hair to look awful while in the desert so I didn't have to use anyone while here. Now I come to the desert needing a cut and color since she is so much better than anyone in Chicago. She is as good at getting color right as she is at doing cuts. She is truly remarkable and a very nice person too!c I happened to be there when the "Rapunzel denier" came in for a cut and color or highlights. (Okay she couldn't sit on her hair, but almost. She had unusually LONG hair!) It was Christmas Eve and we were Vicki's last appointments and I couldn't believe anyone came to town needing multiple services on Christmas Eve since most salons are closed. Apparently kind hearted Vicki agreed to take her at the last minute despite planning to go home and start her holiday. I know that when I called for an appointment a couple weeks ago she had nothing later, and as of 5PM yesterday we were still the last appointments on her book. As "Rapunzel" was leaving we heard her shout how unprofessional Vicki was. Vicki does not work on long hair because she is at a point in her career where she needs to limit her work and not doing long hair is one way she does that. After noting Rapunzel's tirade, I asked Vicki what happened and she told me that she left a message once she found out that this last minute client had long hair, but apparently Rapunzel didn't get the message. If Vicki is at fault it is that she is too nice. Who would accept an appointment after 2PM on Christmas Eve when she had intentionally not booked anyone after 1PM? I suspect that Vicki agreed because it was Christmas and she felt sorry for a person needing a cut and color at the last minute. We walked down El Paseo right after we left Vicki's and the ONLY hair place open was a blow dry place - and there are lots of places there! Christmas Eve is not the time to do cut and color! Rapunzel neglected to say in her review that her "event" was Christmas Eve; this happened today. Her "event" is everyone's event, including Vicki's. She also failed to point out that this appointment was made this morning. It's not fair to publish misleading reviews! Granted it is disappointing when things don't work out and I understand her disappointment, but Rapunzel knew if she had included when this appointment was and when it was made in her scathing review, readers would not feel so sorry for her. Others in the salon couldn't believe anyone had a cut and color appointment at that time. Had there been more than hours between the call and appointment, I am sure they would have figured out a way to contact her. I honestly wonder if Rapunzel did get the message and figured she'd go there anyway and plead to get it done knowing everyone else was closed on Christmas. With cell phones messages usually happen. The salon is very friendly and the owner is a pleasure. Somehow the long hair wasn't communicated to Vicki. A mistake was apparently made. I heard Vicki offering to make calls to find someone to do her hair but Rapunzel bolted out. Who would write an awful review on Christmas Eve and not have some understanding that people have professional limits, particularly when she had to have booked this morning? Vicki told me she was going home to prepare for the holiday after us. Who really waits until Christmas Eve to make an appointment for services that would take a few hours and expects to find them? Who wouldn't understand that Christmas Eve complicates things. Bah Humbug! Rapunzel's real loss is not ever having her hair done by Vicki as her talent is magical. Knowing Vicki, if Rapunzel came back with short or mid length hair she would probably accept her as a client. She is that nice. She doesn't deserve a misleading review that fails to state this was a desperate, Christmas Eve, last minute appointment where an honest mistake was made. Someone needs to tell Rapunzel that Christmas is not HER event as well as that Christmas is a time for people to be kind to one another. Writing a misleading, bad review is what Scrooge would have done if Yelp was around in his day! Glad I was there and witnessed what took place. This is a wonderful salon with a most talented hair artist! Their mistake was being too nice and accepting a last minute appointment from a new client on a special and stressful day without enough information conveyed. I'd certainly cut them slack on Christmas Eve. Looks like Christmas spirit took over for them or they never would have made that appointment and hence that mistake! read more
