The AFTER and BEFORE pictures below speak volumes about Chris. I was honestly shocked to read the previous review and I took some time and consideration before writing mine...I've been going to Chris for a couple years now and after going through about 5 different people I can HONESTLY say that as someone with OCD who notices everything out of place...Chris does my hair exactly how I show him I want it to look. Something nobody else has been able to do for me. I'm on a budget too but I'm sorry, you get what you pay for and I've spent more repairing my damaged hair from what other salons have done than just getting it done the right way the first time by Chris who is absolutely AMAZING!! Going to Chris makes me literally feel like a Glamma instead of a Grandma and he is worth EVERY SINGLE PENNY! I mean who needs Botox with Chris around?! Just look at my pictures you guys seriously!!! If you have to complain about $5 then El Paseo probably isn't the place to go to get your hair done, it's expensive you guys! And you should ALWAYS ask your hairdresser for the cost before you start, don't assume or go off of what your friend pays. My go to guy is Basilio and trust me when I tell you, he has magic hands, he's a hair guru and overall an amazing person. You will get along with him instantly!! I was charged $380 after a brutal day under Chris's expertise beauty experience at this salon. I scheduled an appointment for a full head of hi lights and cut and blow-dry. He tricked me into a corrective color but I don't think he knew what to do. He proceeded to put me under a dryer for 1 hour in the 120 degree temperature we were having outside. I couldn't breathe and I wasn't offered any water. He decided to decolorize my hair and I am a foil client and always have been. I was beginning to think this was a prank! After 1 hour of this puzzling event he told me that he could not work on my hair. He said my hair was damaged and would break off. Now what I thought to myself was how can I leave or even pay for this when my hair is Orange? I couldn't leave the salon with what he had said was as far he could go!!! My hair wasn't finished.So I asked him can you darken my roots and possibly lighten the ends. He did this to my hair at least. I'm trying to calculate how this was even the right thing to do? I should have just left the appointment or not came in. But he tricked me to go under the dryer and my hair was bright Orange! I have a short hairstyle that goes to the nape of my neck. He cut a straight line and nothing in the interior. No layers no nothing. He gave me a balding bang trim that looks like my hair is receding. When I asked him to trim my bangs. I got the special treatment which he said whoops didn't mean to do that. I wish I never came into this appointment he's terrible. Not a good colorist or hairdresser overall he is the worst. I'm glad to find another Aveda salon here in Coachella Valley. It pays to research ! Others, overcharge, don't answer their phones and go home early, however, Jake Turner Salon is just the opposite with professional services. Chris and Palon were terrific too ! read more

A friend recommended Chris and she said she pays about $250/$275 ish. She has the same length as I do (short). I made an appointment and he recommended I wait a few more weeks to color for more grow out. The cut was $110. I came back for color expecting to pay what my friend pays ($275 at most for cut and color). I also had a partial. I was rung up at $280!!! For partial highlights. I mentioned I was married to military and maybe that's why I was charged more than my friend. Who can afford $400 every time you get your hair done and for me it's about once a month? He said I was charged $75 for a blow dry! He should probably ask his new clients if they want a blow dry and how much it will be. I would have been happy leaving the place with wet hair. Absurd!!! It was a nice color but I get the same color for half the price at Dishwater Blonde. read more

Where do I begin.. Besides the fact that I absolutely love this salon. Shelbi always does my hair and it's always amazing. She's the one I go to for anything that has to do with my hair; if I want to go crazy and go a funky color or even if I need a trim. Everyone that works at the salon is super friendly! It's not like a typical salon where the other employees will ignore you because you're not their client; they're very friendly here. I have gone from super dark, almost black hair to a platinum white. It's been a long process but Shelbi has stuck with me through the whole journey! I love the products that they use to wash your hair, it always smells so good! You'll never leave disappointed! Not sure how I've managed to not write a review yet, but I've been going to Kenyon for over a year and have yet to have a single haircut that didn't look AMAZING. This is no small miracle because I have very fine hair and I wear it short, so if there are any flaws or weird spots, they will be very pronounced. But I have never had a single weird spot, and never gotten so many compliments (you short haired ladies know exactly what I'm talking about). Plus, I can walk in and show him a picture or just tell him to do whatever he feels like doing, and it will never look bad. He is by far the best stylist I've ever had. read more

I like the size of the salon. Not too big for lots of people, not too small to be insignificant. It's a relatively new shop (3 years in this location) and the décor is great.
