The best branzino I've ever had in my life. I went here for a friend's birthday and it did not disappoint. The service was great, the restaurant was cozy and elegant and the food was phenomenal. For an appetizer we had the grilled octopus and it was delicious but the show stopper was the branzino. It was so amazing, buttery, and flavorful. This was a great spot for a quiet romantic dinner. The place was small, the lights were dim, and the soft music played to set the mood. Our waitress was very good with making recommendations and refilling our drinks. She visited our table frequently to make sure all was well and would engage in small talk about where we were from and what we should consider doing on our visit to Puerto Rico. The menu was a bit different than what we were accustomed too but after sharing what we liked the waitress made recommendations that did not disappoint. We started with the lamb meat ball in Alfredo sauce which were amazing and had a pasta dish and filet for dinner. We ended the meal with a chocolate dessert that was really good. We showed up for a 730 reservation made two weeks in advance. There was an open table but we were told we couldn't sit there because there was a 9:15 reservation who requested that table. If we wanted to eat that night we either had to eat on patio lounge furniture or had to leave after an hour. All we got was a "too bad, so sad" on the way out because that was "the best they could do." This used to be a regular stop for us in San Juan but it's off the list. read more

Hands down the best meal I had in Puerto Rico. I had a pasta dish, split a bottle of wine for the table, and had an after dinner drink of an espresso martini. Never typically write reviews, but wanted to mention how amazing this place was. It was our last big dinner in Puerto Rico for our honeymoon and this placed helped make it so memorable. Rosie (sorry if I misspelled) was our waitress and was so kind. She gave detailed information over all the food and helped us make our choices for the meals. Which were all so good. The ambiance of the place was perfect for a date night. I was even given a scarf by the staff because of a cold breeze near our table. Absolutely fabulous steak house in a very quaint charming little boutique hotel in Condado. The Olive. We started our meal with a small salad, courtesy of the manager Jose. Tomatoes with papaya under arugula and what I thought was lightly cooked fine onions with a light vinaigrette. Good and refreshing way to start. For starter we had the mahi lollipops. Really cute lollipop shaped raw mahi with sweet crab inside. This was excellent. Main dish the tomahawk steak for two with the spinach gratin and the blue cheese Mac n cheese which I thought was too overpowering to eat with this protein. The steak on the other hand was superb. Easily one of the very best I've ever had. And let me state this. I'm not a steak person. This was expertly seasoned and cooked exactly as ordered. For dessert really good and well executed creme brûlée Service is on point. It's expensive, and a good steak house is. It's a small place so recommend reservations and then make sure you go. The service and lack of compassion at Olive Boutique Hotel & Sage Restaurant Condado,PR is despicable. My wedding memories are ruined. Worst Service EVER! Accommodations that should have been made never were. My entire wedding night was spent arguing with staff and being told there is no one hire up who can help me. No manager on staff NOTHING. I'm in a beautiful gown with tears running down my face and the event coordinator Kamil couldn't careless. Wedding photos with my family weren't taken due to the constant back and forth with staff. First and foremost, I appreciate the hospitality of everyone in this country for asking about allergies. That being said, this place asked if I had allergies, and then made doubly sure not to give us any dish that had pork. Unbeknownst to us, they proceeded to give us a salad which had pork pieces (bits of prosciutto) even though they mentioned between 2 waiters that they would remove any pork in the salad. Only 3/4ths of the way through the salad did we notice because of how small the pieces were were (the size of grains of rice). They did apologize and offer to get me allergy medication, but at the end of dinner, they charged us for the salad (fixed after we mentioned it..) and the manager didn't speak with us. The waiters were apologetic, but this could have killed me. We were on high alert the rest of the night after taking emergency medication for the allergy. Our opening for the dinner was with a cup of Taittinger - the product was good but the most important for champagne is that they were stored and served at good temperature which for us they were. As appetizer we ordered "duck confit agnolotti -dumplings and angus sliders both of them spectacular. For main dish we had the filet and mafaldine pasta. Filet was cooked to the point we ordered (medium), pasta al dente and great taste, adequate serving temperature and great presentation. Our wine pairing with main dish was Marques de Murrieta 2015 bottle - served at adequate temperature and conservation was good since we know about this particular wine house. I will be as unbiased and as fair as possible. My experience was lacking in a lot of areas. The place is beautiful but it felt like an expensive luxury tourist trap. Upon arrival, the waiter asked for any allergies. I gave her mine and then an inappropriate line of questioning started about why I don't eat this or that. The wine list was terrible in variety- 2 pages of US wines with approximately 8 choices total of Argentina, Spain, etc. My red wine was served ice cold. Ordered drinks-terrible. One with pisco tasted like soap and the smoked Old Fashioned tasted like charcoal(smoked should not equal burned) How can you ruin an Old Fashioned? I have no clue. There are much better drinks at bars in Santurce, Miramar, next door in Condado. The prices were exorbitant for the portion size, type of food served. I am not cheap-I gladly spend $300+ on a dinner for 2 if its worth it. An appetizer runs near $20. A side dish costs $10 and is about an 6oz cup serving. Tuna pops and croquettes were good but not worth the price-spent around $30 for those two apps. The bread they give is really good. The menu is limited for such a specialty place-The waiter was rude and passive aggressive when I indicated I could not find food options in the menu. I ordered a wagyu burger with fries and it was good but I found that the cut of meat maybe shouldn't be made into a burger or maybe the place made it to be greasy. By greasy I mean, plate dripping, my hands covered and shining. We skipped dessert and rushed out to pay the 15$ valet parking and find a better place to spend the night. If you're looking for similar place but without these faults would recommend another nearby restaurant in Miramar (rare125, as Kate the other reviewer also commented). Spectacular setting in a very charming Boutique Hotel. The staff was very attentive and courteous. We started out with a Cosmo and a Kiwi Collins, and the The Ahi Tuna appetizer was stuffed with real crab, delicious! A very subtle touch of Sriracha mixed with the Tuna and Crab is just perfect. The Tomahawk Steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned, one of the best I've had anywhere. My mother always taught me that if I had nothing nice to say, to keep my mouth shut... And, while I've not always heeded that advice, it isn't necessary when speaking (or writing) about Sage Steak Loft. OMG, this place is amazing! It's a tiny, 20-ish table restaurant inside the O:live Boutique Hotel. It's almost like stepping into the pages of a Restoration Hardware catalog. Their use of reclaimed wood everywhere along side the stucco created a warm and inviting environment that I wouldn't necessarily think of as Puerto Rican. Their staff was equally inviting, gracious, and courteous. Ok... Enough about the decor. Let's talk about the food! (I've included pictures of everything we ate.) How do you make ahi tuna more perfect? Wrap it around king crab. Delicious! I'm a huge fan of burrata. I love it's creaminess. The caprese was kicked up a level with different colored heirloom tomatoes and compressed watermelon. The pop of the tomatoes matched with the creaminess of the burrata, the tangibles of the balsamic and the sweetness of the watermelon was pure and utter perfection. Rib eye is my absolute favorite cut of meat and the Sage Steak Loft chose the perfect cut and cooked it perfectly. The sear on the outside gave it a nice crunch while the inside was a perfect medium and so soft you could almost cut it with a butter knife. The branzino special was perfectly seared and served on top of a bed of spinach grits. I'm not much of a fish eater but the grits were creamy and crunchy at the same time. I finished the meal with the spicy chocolate cake. Meh. I've had much better, I've had worse. At the end of the day it didn't ruin my meal. As a matter of fact I almost forgot I even had it. The party next to us was three generations of a family - mother, daughter, grand-daughter. We immediately started a conversation almost from the moment we sat down and the waiter brought them their pop-overs (that's right! Amazing pop-overs (or Yorkshire pudding) to start your meal instead of bread. Ummmmm.... Hello! I would have recommended them just for those! Anyway, we enjoyed the company of these lovely ladies and sweet little girl and joins the, on the roof op deck of O:live for a cocktail. I have had the Tomahawk Steak all three times. It is delicious but suggest you order your steak under cooked because they have a tendency to overcook the meat. Appetizers are inventive and unique. We were excited about the meal we would have based on the beauty and fine detail of the hotel, especially the exemplary service by Wanda. Sadly, Sage did not compare. Our waiter lacked the necessary skills for the high price tag of the menu. His inexperience was even more obvious when we needed to return our $40 ribeyes because they were over cooked...and not just a little. (Ordered rare, received well done!) Although this was corrected, our other sides were left to "warm" which caused our green beans to wilt and burn. ( the mac and cheese was outstanding though) The manager ( who was present) did not even attempt to come to our table or apologize to us for the error. Just ate at this newly opened restaurant "Sage" in the Olive boutique hotel. The food was excellent, as was the service. Our table of four had the filet mignon, churrasco steak, and several appetizers. The churrasco was the best entree, but the filet mignon was very good as well. Great rolls to start that were popovers with little pieces of crispy pork baked on top. For appetizers, both the "cut" shrimp cocktail and the steak tartare were delicious. Great sides as well. The bar was also excellent - I recommend trying a rum old fashioned with Zaccapa. Many in our party had cosmos, and they were perfect. The web site of the hotel needs to be updated, as this new restaurant replaces the now closed Oliva. But if you're in Condado, check this one out. Also, the rooftop bar is a great hangout spot after dinner with beautiful views of the lagoon and surrounding area. read more

SAGE Steak Loft, Just Good, not Very Good and definitely NOT Great! I went to Sage Steakhouse for a celebratory dinner with my wife. I had high expectations but was underwhelmed by the overall experience. We had the "Black Truffle Burrata" as an appetizer and it was actually good, the Basilico oil, Balsamico was a good start to the palate. My wife ordered the "Prime Filet Mignon" and I had the "Grass Fed Angus Ribeye", both were good but definitely not great, the "Bearnaise" and "Rioja Reduction" sauces were not even offered, our sides included the "Pesto Gnocchi" and the "Trottole Porcini Mac" which had good taste but were not memorable in any way. The only parts I would describe as Very Good was the service which was well timed with humor and a welcomed attitude towards our questions or comments and the "Tiramisu" desserts. A few things that bothered us a bit. The dining area was limited and dark, seated next to some unpleasant smelling ropes, and the option of dining on the terrace was denied when they informed us it was for "drinks and appetizers", so all the nice views you see on the pictures of the terrace were not available to us. The Valet parking was $15 plus tip, and in essence they just parked my car on the street (STK Steakhouse was $10 using the Vanderbilt hotel Parking lot). My last grievance is that the suggested tip percentages are based on the total price after taxes, inappropriately inflating the tips, something that always annoys me and consider unwarranted. read more
