We were so excited to stay here for a weekend away as a couple.
I will start by saying that Sage Lodge is gorgeous! The views alone make it a beautiful place to stay and the rooms are modern and pretty.
Unfortunately, the poor customer service, lack of attention to detail and overall experience during and after our time there has left us incredibly disappointed. Management did nothing they promised to remedy our situation or concerns.
Here are a few examples of why I can't recommend Sage Lodge:
The food and service is lacking, it seems the staff have had little to no training. Any wrong orders/issues were not addressed other than "thanks for the feedback, we are working out our technical difficulties, hopefully before busy season this summer."
Our food orders were wrong a couple times, with little done to remedy or make amends. The waitress literally responded to our concern about meat being missing from the breakfast hash we ordered with, "Well he must have lied to me then". So strange to not offer a resolution? This happened quite a few times, with a waitress waiting a full 40 minutes to even get our breakfast ticket in and then apologizing for the delay. To stay at a "high end" lodge like this and have that happen repeatedly with no comps or even a sincere "what can we do?" made us like unwanted guests.
The bar inside the lodge had only one person working after breakfast, with drinks only, no snacks available at any time. Their restaurant is only choice for food, but their hours are limited with reservations required unless you sit at the bar in restaurant.
Outdoor hot tub is set up with no shelter from the howling wind, and our robes and towels blew into the snow with no place to hang them outside when you get into the hot tub. I will say, the view is great though!
The spa was the best atmosphere we found, with a very tranquil setting. My husband loved his hot stone massage, but my massage was painful and unprofessional at best. My intake form had said light pressure, but the manager confirmed what I got was actually a deep tissue massage. When the spa manager checked in with us later that afternoon we did get an apology, but again no offer of a resolution or amends for a poor experience and hundreds of dollars wasted.
When we checked in we gave them a credit card and asked that the debit card we called the reservation in on not be charged, they said no problem and had us swipe our credit card, not once, but twice "to be sure they had it on file".
Half way through our stay we noticed they'd placed holds for $800 on EACH card! Front desk promised it would drop off at check out, and then again at check out they said it'd be cleared up. I've now called twice after our stay with NO resolution, the second time they forwarded me to voice mail. Both of our cards still pending with now over $800 in charges. Yikes. Huge miss for customer service and hospitality!
*Update: A manager did call back and try to remedy it, but the bank wouldn't take the hold off until 4 days after we checked out. For our troubles, he promised he'd refund one night of our stay. A week later, we've followed up to say this refund never happened, no response yet.*
My honest recommendation is to stay at Chico and maybe visit here for a hike and happy hour to enjoy the view. (Although the bar does have your back to the view in the lodge, but in the restaurant you will have a view at the bar.) They haven't yet had landscaping done at Sage, so bring boots you don't mind getting muddy and quite dirty on walk ways between spa, hot tubs, restaurant, parking lot, etc!
We have an upcoming retreat that we had wanted to book here, but after our stay we confirmed them at Chico as they don't have these kinds of issues or reputation for disappointment.
My opinion is that they aren't worth the price for what you get. I am disappointed that we spent about SO much on 2 nights stay, the spa and a few meals and don't feel I can recommend this place to friends or family until they work out all their customer service issues and address how to handle issues that arise with their guests. As of now I don't feel they care one bit and believe the views and beautiful lodge will win them enough accolades. Customer service may not matter to some, but it certainly does for me. Huge disappointment. read more
