The only reason it gets two stars is because nature is beautiful. There is nothing about the campground that deserves more than one star. You can't reserve online, or pick your site, communication is minimal, the campground needs lots of attention. This place has great potential. It's on the water and there is a really cool spot by some big boulders. But the bath houses are terrible. There are two bath houses and at Bath house 1 - There were nails through the space where a pad lock goes, the floor feels like it is failing in on the porch surround, the 2 shower rooms are dark and dingy with peeling painted concrete floors. We didn't see the shower room at Bath house 2 because it was always occupied since there is only one shower in this building for a lot of tent sites. There are no mirrors in the bathrooms (there are in the shower rooms) . The property needs some TLC - landscape, mowing and trash pick up. There are cluttered spots of old junk laying around. It would be a great place to start a campground. read more

My first time at Sag Bay campground was a year ago in a tent at an ocean view spot. It was so nice we visited again 1 year later instead with a camper in a water front RV spot. The staff is super friendly and the store sells ice and other necessities. Every RV spot has a great ocean view and a personal trash bin that campground staff picks up everyday. No fault of the campground obviously but it was abnormally hot when we visited for 3 nights. The horseflies were very intense and were hard to get away from without being in the RV. The area is very tidal and you can walk very far out at low tide. It's a fun campground in a unique setting. Highly recommend but be prepared for all types of weather. read more

We spent a few nights in a travel trailer at this campground while working our way up the Maine coast. As we drove up, the campground did not seem to be tended to on a regular basis. The office was barely a room and seemed like a motor license renewal office. The site was on grass/dirt with water/electric/sewer and looked out onto a beautiful bay. Every 12 hours, the receding tide caused the bugs, including mosquitos to come out like crazy. We could not sit outside in the evenings. The campground was quiet, but the wash houses were far (must drive there) and were ancient and untidy. (I used my outdoor shower instead). The ice was pricey. The rest of the campground was difficult to navigate on the dirt roads with our off-road car. We would not recommend this place overall. read more

We had a great stay on a very hot and humid August weekend. We stayed in a quiet wooded area (site 118) which didn't have an ocean view but it felt secluded and serene. The mosquitoes were intense so bring ALL the bug spray. The water spigot at our site was awesome, such a nice convenience. The shower was just fine. We got lobsters and clams delivered to our site one night which was awesome because we didn't have to cook (it was 84 degrees). We had a great time at Sagadahoc Bay Campground! This place is "no frills", but it's got everything you need and more! We stayed at an Ocean View tent site. It was a small site, but had plenty of room for our tent, fire, picnic table, etc,. and you can drive right up. You can see other sites nearby, but there was still ample privacy and every site was extremely peaceful. The view was beautiful from our site as well. We clammed and went kayaking - both were awesome and super affordable. We steamed the clams back at our site and it was truly an all around awesome experience. The bay and grounds are really beautiful and it was nice to just walk around. Everyone we came into contact with was super friendly, but you can also have as much privacy as you want. We mainly cooked at our fire/campsite, but one night we did drive to the wharf to get lobsters which I'd highly recommend. It was beautiful over there and Five Island Lobsters was awesome. read more

I HAD reservations but I was "selfish" and decided NOT to get the vaccine. So I will not be going to this campground. Not now and not ever. By the way, I was not emailed about the change in COVID rules. I found out by going to the website to look into fishing and claming rules. So no notification from the campground. Beautiful campground with friendly and welcoming staff. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to meet Pat, and to shake her hand. This pet friendly campground has water front sites, water view sites, and very cool wooded sites. We reserved a water front site, and spent hours watching the tide come in and out of the bay. You can buy a clam digger license, have cooked lobster delivered to your site, and rent canoes or kayaks. We walked the bay during low tide, and my hubby swam at high tide. The bathrooms were clean, and nearby. Our site had water, and a daily trash pickup. There are a ton of things to do nearby, but we spent most of our time at the campground because it was so peaceful. We already can't wait to return next summer! read more

We camped here in July and loved it! We originally had an ocean front site but asked to be moved to an electric site and the lady at the front desk moved us to a wonderful site #163. The kids loved it, it had a massive stone wall/cave like entrance on the upper portion where the fire pit was and the lower level we set up all our tents and it easily fit our big family tent and the two teenagers personal tents. The kids were climbing/exploring the rocky hill next to our campsite pretty much the whole time we camped there. But the real star was the beach area. The kids absolutely loved it when the tide was out. We walked all the way out to where the ocean was and as we walked back we looked for shells. Found so many beautiful shells. We ended up setting our beach chairs about 50 feet from the beach area so we could have the tide come in around us, we then just moved our stuff to the beach area and the kids played in the water. We were originally going to go out and visit light houses but we just stayed at the campsite and went to the beach each day and just relaxed. The bathrooms were an easy walk from our site and we really appreciated that it was four separate bathrooms with solid doors to close for privacy. Everyone was so friendly there, we chatted with a few neighbors and also some of the people that were digging for clams at the beach. My friend and I definitely want to come back as it was just so peaceful and we had beautiful sunny days to enjoy it, but this time we want to get a cabin and spend more time exploring the island and Maine itself. read more

The WORST campground I've ever visited. From the moment you pull in, it just looks dumpy. The inn keeper's house is in shambles and windows are all covered with grey plastic. The owner, Pat, is very high strung and sarcastic when you ask a question. I came for six nights but only made it 3. Wanted to leave after 2 but she wouldn't refund my money. The mosquito population made sitting outside unbearable. Why the particular sites weren't sprayed is beyond me. I've never seen anything like it. Went through a whole bottle of off!! The bath houses were beyond gross. I couldn't tell if it was mud all over the floor or feces. Toilet clogged constantly. No fan and the smell was horrendous. There was no sandy beach area and the claim was that you could walk out for a mile and a half when the tide was out. The only problem was getting out on the sand bay floor. You would sink into this black smelly mud and it was impossible to get out there with your beach chairs, etc. I lost a flip flop in the mud due to my foot sinking in so deeply in the mud. $58 a night is way overpriced for this place. And don't forget any supplies cuz your 15 miles from nowhere! I will never come back here! Reply to pat: You clearly did not remember who I was because I never requested a water site. I can't wait to come back here on my next camping trip, they offer so much here! When the tide was in I went ocean kayaking for the first time that was great, and when the tide went out i walked through the mud flats and saw so many creatures! The owner keeps the bathroom facilities very clean too, i saw the bathrooms cleaned many times. The owner is also so sweet, and friendly to new people, it felt like we were right at home here. Campsites spaces apart generously, there are some more secluded options and some more open options. I'm around 20 years old and i had a blast, i also saw a lot of families and children here too so i would say it's a very safe and fun place for the little ones as well, ALSO PET FRIENDLY! My wife and I were lucky enough to recently spend the month of August on a waterfront site at Sagadahoc Bay Campground, and it was an enchanting experience we will never forget! Weather was perfect! Our site was on an outcropping of granite overlooking the bay and we enjoyed being so close to the daily tidal activity. We awoke daily to the sound of the water lapping at the shoreline. We took our dog down to the beach area every day and she enjoyed running on the amazing rocks, exploring the nooks and crannies at low tide. The views out toward the ocean were different every day, and always wonderful. We must have taken 500 pictures. We loved our hosts Pat and Eric. They were helpful and thoughtful. We enjoyed just dropping by to say hi. As others have mentioned they offer cooked lobster delivered to your door. We did this several times - always perfectly done! How do you beat that? The Campground has a nice family vibe which we enjoyed. Being there a month we saw many RV's come and go, but we were pleasantly surprised to see how nice and respectful (and quiet) fellow campers were. We discovered that many had been coming for years, some even came as kids and were now returning as adults with their children. Sagadahoc Bay is a magical place. Highlights include the Coastal Botanical Gardens in Boothbay, the Maine Maritime Museum, the dog park in Bath, and of course, Five Islands Lobster Co. Stayed here two nights ago in a tent with my dog. I highly recommend getting one of the oceanside sites, they're up a small cliff from the water and just spectacular. We had the entire tent campground to ourselves. The bathrooms were clean, and the roads to get to the sites were rugged but if my Elantra can make it so can your car. They have firewood for sale, and each site has a picnic table, fire pit, and water. I couldn't find anything to complain about. For the review complaining about the oceanside sites being a mile away from the water, the water does go out a mile at low tide, which supposedly makes for great clamming. At high tide the sites are right next to the water... If they were close to the water at low tide they would be underwater the rest of the day. Maybe write a yelp review about the moon and the sun if you'd like to complain about the tides. read more

Pat and Eric were AMAZING hosts who became friends. Our 2 day stay turned into 10 due to an auto accident on our first day. The next day Pat gave me a ride into Brunswick, and wouldn't accept gas money, so I could get a rental. Always cheerful, Pat worked with us as we kept adding days (2 at a time) to our stay. We were Cliff side. It was tricky getting our trailer into the site but WELL worth it. It was quiet and peaceful, just what my injured and stressed family needed. Water at every site and our site also had 30/50. Eric keeps the bathroom clean and someone with common sense would expect some mess, between cleanings, on a busy weekend. A thunderstorm was going to come through the area, in about an hour, and Eric drove to every site to warn people. The Cliff side trees and granite would have made it hard for us to foresee the storm and adequately prepare. The beach, rocks, and views were AMAZING. We took a few peaceful walks down the hill to enjoy the view. This place is on our list of places to revisit. read more

I stayed at a cliff site and at a water site. Eric helped me back in to the cliff site as the road was tight but the site was level, quiet and private. Really great campsite. Due to weather the mosquitoes were abundant and a water view site became available that had a breeze. Pat saved it for me and I spent another 4 nights in the Meadow. Clamming , lobsters delivered to the campsite and friendly quiet campers. I had a blast. Pat and Eric were very helpful and friendly. It's not an RV resort but more like camping as it should be. read more

Sagadahoc Bay Campground is in a very nice location and the campsite we had was great. BUT, the washroom facilities were dirty and not well maintained. The showers did not all work and the facilities were generally shabby. I commented to the owner and one of the staff about this and they were both rude and vulgar. I was told "What do you expect, you are camping" and a few other things that are not appropriate to print here. From what I have read in reviews this is not a one time thing. Also the mosquitos were very bad but you can't fault the people for that. All in all the washroom and personnel issues ruined our stay and I would never return there and do not recommend it to others. read more

I have stayed here for the past two years in the early weeks of June. In short -it's great! Once I got past looking-longingly at my site from the previous year -which was right on the water. Pat the owner and operator offered up a new site that they had just cleared out and it overlooked a portion of the campground from high above. When night came, I had a view of all the campfires from above, it was super-cool and I appreciate her letting me try it out. : ) Her and her husband are extremely welcoming and have really created a delightful campground in a beautiful setting. read more

My friends and I loved our stay at Sagadahoc Bay Campground! Pat (and her two lovely dogs) couldn't have been a kinder host and made sure that we had everything we needed. We rented cabin 205, which fit 4 well with a bedroom and a sofabed, and it had all the amenities we needed, hot shower, kitchen, etc. We loved Pat's DVD library too and borrowed a few films to watch in our cabin. One of the highlights of our trip was getting lobster delivered at the campground-- really an incredible experience. I'd highly recommend for a beautiful time in Maine! read more

WHAT A DUMP! My partner and I were ASTONISHED at how different this place was from the images in the 2012 Official State Directory MAINE Camping Guide magazine! Not only is the ad in the magazine lacking in integrity but their website is very misleading (on the bottom of the home page it says "Share your experience" and when you click on it it leads to a skewed page that doesn't exist). Unlike the review by Shae T. I will say these people lack good intent. The grounds were dirty and the roads were full of divots and huge rocks to drive over (we thought we'd need a 4 wheel drive vehicle while driving up to the upper tent spots that had no clear markings on the trees to indicate what space number it was). It was super creepy and we couldn't imagine why the campers chose to stay in such a trashy place. My partner went into the office to get a refund and after 5 min. he wasn't out of there and I went in to see what was happening. I noticed on the wall next to the door a notice that read to the effect "Don't bother asking for a REFUND because we will not issue you one." I was wondering what the holdup was. The machine was issuing a refund on his credit card (thankfully). I guess it all depends on who is asking for a refund. Thankfully we didn't have a fight on our hands. I will say that my partner told me the initial response upon asking for the refund he told her "This is the crudest campsite I've ever seen." and her reply was "Crudest? What do you mean?" and he went on explaining the terrible roads and the lousy auto pads and trash around the campgrounds. Her reply was " You hurt my feelings." regardless....we got our money back and drove up to Boothbay Harbor and found a really nice campground "Shore Hills" on Route 27. We had a lot of questions never being to the area before and she acted annoyed by them. Stayed two nights last weekend. Tent camped on the cliff. The site was clean. The neighbors were friendly. It was dark and raining when checked in, the owner drove us out to our camp site. Once the rain ended, the moon came out and lit up bay quite beautifully. At night you can hear the waves crashing into the shore at Reid in the distance. Perhaps we were just lucky. Perhaps the other reviewers had unrealistic expectations. I would definitely return. Inexpensive firewood. Potable water at the site. Not quite sure what all the complaining is about. read more

Nice campground. Friendly staff. Quiet campsites- always a plus. (i.e., This is not your typical campground with the loud families all over the place.) The facilities are rather primitive- portable toilets and small showers. However, it's plenty for just getting away and relaxing. This place is out of the way, and yet close to Bath, and several state parks in Maine. Yes, there is a field that the trailers go into that are very close together, and that's where they lose the star, as it kinda blocks up the scenery. Other than that, the roads were fine and-by the way people-IT'S A CAMPGROUND! If you want any sort of respectful communication or cordial customer service, please do not book here. I made a reservation online and called to pay my deposit; I spoke with owner Eric, who told me he didn't know how to process my payment. He took my card info and said his wife would email me to confirm to reservation and process the payment, and he then told me what site number I'd be on. After our call, I checked their website and saw that our site number was not one that was waterfront, which is what we paid for. So when his wife, Pat, emailed me to confirm the reservation, I asked her to clarify the site assignment; I mentioned we reserved a waterfront site and the map didn't show that, so I asked her to let me know if it was in fact waterfront, and if not, if we could be moved since we booked waterfront. Pat's response was curt and rude, and she basically threatened to not accept our deposit/cancel the reservation if I didn't "leave it to the campground". Instead of answering my question or providing clarification, she chose to be snippy and dismissive. I responded to let her know we would just book somewhere else because we didn't appreciate how she handled the situation and she emailed back to let me know "Do what you must. You will not be missed." This isn't the first review I've seen that mentions how rude the owners were. I'm surprised this campground is still in business if this is how they treat customers. There are so many other choices- take your money elsewhere! read more

Wife and I prefer "Folksy" to "Fancy" so Sagadahoc Bay fits us. Right on the water, reasonably priced, larger RV spaces than usual, convenient to Boothbay Harbor (a GREAT place to shop, dine, hang out). This campground has perhaps one of the most beautiful settings I've ever seen on the East Coast. We stayed in site 155. Which was large, at the end of the property And right on the water. The downsides were The camp sites are on top of each other and that makes it much less private. The bathrooms get a 2 from me. Dirty floors, tiny showers and tons and tons of skeeters day and night. It seems to me that they could do a much better job of both upgrading the bathrooms and keeping them clean. I would definitely return but most probably at the tail end of the season and book the two campsites around 155 as well for more privacy read more

I stayed for 3 nights and had a beautiful ocean front campsite (#153). The site was large enough for 2 tents, fire pit, chairs and table and even had a wonderful view of the islands. There was a direct path from our site to the water which we could clam, fish, kayak. You can rent kayaks ($15-$20/hr) or clamming tools ($50 but refunded at return) at the front office and can even get a weeks permit for clamming. There is also cell phone service and WiFi in most places at the campground which was nice as we had a 3 year old with us. Owners were very nice and accommodating as we had multiple cars and people. There were 4, unisex, private bathroom stalls in quick walking distance. There was only 1 shower in my vicinity but it was private with plenty of hot water. Later you go, the dirty the floor outside of the shower will be, obviously. There were other amazing sites built in to giant rock walls that I need to try next time as well! read more

Sagadahoc Bay has extremely up to date facilities, clean bathrooms, water at each site and sweeping gorgeous views. The owners are sweet and accommodating (in exchange for a small favor from us we were offered a free kayak rental!) and have an incredible property on their hands. The campground has some unbelievable stargazing when the weather is good and a great beach. Lastly, my friend and I felt incredibly safe. For two college age girls, traveling alone can be a bit dangerous, but this campground was inviting and we didn't have to worry for a second. The atmosphere is very family oriented and I would recommend it to ANYONE! Go, as long as you bring lots of bug spray. It is right by the water, after all. read more

Wonderful experience! I would definitely stay again at Sagadahoc Bay Campground!! Staff: All of the staff were very friendly and welcoming. They offered to show us to our campsite since we arrived after dark. Campsite layout is a tiny bit confusing at first but it adds to the adventure!! Site: We are tent campers. Our site, 132, was perfect with a view. Quiet and off to itself a bit. I would also definitely recommend sites 150-156. So gorgeous up on a hill/cliff looking out onto the bay. Fire pit with grill tops. Also, made this reservation last minute and still was able to get a great site. The Bay: Very cool! You can walk out about a mile on the sand flats during low tide and watch the tide quickly creep back in. Also, right around the corner from Reid State Park which I would recommend. Gorgeous ocean view, fun rocks to climb on, saw some dolphins! Some people could be turned off by the bathing/bathroom facilities but it's a campground people :) In the tent area, there were a few portapotties. I feel the campground could definitely benefit from a different type of toilet situation like a couple composting toilets or something like that? There is a bathhouse that we did not use that was a ways away from the campsite. Really, the only reason I gave a 4 out of 5 is because of the price. It was about $50 dollars per site which is about double what I have ever paid for a tent site. I haven't done too much research on campground prices in coastal Maine so maybe this isn't too crazy? We stayed four nights at this campground, and wish we could have stayed longer. When reserving our site by phone, we were greeted warmly by Pat, one of the owners. Upon our arrival, and throughout our stay, we were shown exceptional hospitality by our very attentive and congenial hosts. The campground has many different types of sites for RVs and tents. Some are nestled in the woods, while others are open, with beautiful views of Sagadoc Bay. A short climb over beautiful, stable rocks that sparkled with minerals took us from our parking spot to our campsite. Our tent site overlooked the bay, with a lighthouse in the distance. When the tide went out, we could see clam diggers and sea birds below. A small path led down to rocks and beach. Though we have camped all of our lives, we had never enjoyed a prettier campsite. Our site was equipped with running water. Bathrooms with showers were just a two minute walk away. Neighboring campsites were not too close, and the campers were all respectful and pleasant company. An extra special treat offered by the campground owners was delivery of freshly cooked lobster to our site. We were thrilled to enjoy delicious lobster in a stunningly beautiful natural setting, without any need to get dressed up and spend far more on a formal dinner at an expensive restaurant. Despite mosquitoes and dirt roads with some bumps, we would highly recommend this campground to REAL CAMPERS! read more

I've camped a lot in my time, many places around the U.S. I unfortunately have to say that this place does not rank among one of the better places. The bathrooms were very dirty and in much need of update. The only "cleaning" that was done while we were there for 3 nights was the owner stopping in and filling the toilet paper and paper towel, no cleaning was done what so-ever. The campground offered no amenities, no laundry facilities, no activities, nothing. One thing positive I can say is that the sites themselves were nice, private, and flat. $60 for what? Ill start by saying that I am not a person who will go ahead and write a review, unless I feel as if it might save some people a trouble, a headache, or a surprise. Unexpectedly, the campsite owner was unwelcoming and actually quite rude. When we asked her to see the site before we commit to stay, she got supposedly offended by us not "trusting" her with the campground, became defensive, and said that if we choose to check out the site we better leave right after (are you serious?!) Shocked, we kept listening to her blabbing that "this is how we do things in Maine", which is a complete absurd and exactly the opposite of "how we do things in America", or particularly in Maine. She made us feel uncomfortable, and we ended up taking the site we've never seen, just because it was too late in the day to go somewhere else. Then, at the site, we learned that she gave us the wrong information about possible swimming (there was no place for anything similar to swimming), the price was outrageous for the small site we got (and generally!!), and overall, the campaite itself was simply nice, not more. So do yourself a favor, and find other campgrounds to set your tent in, Maine is too beautiful to waste on this place. read more
