Arrived early on a rainy day. Lovely park, thought it was pretty busy for a rainy morning. Rocks will be slippery, wear good traction shoes. Will have to plan a return trip to experience it on a sunny day!

We visited mid-week in June and found Mile Beach to be busy, but not overly so. We walked a bit and climbed to the top of Griffith Head where the view of both the rocky coast and the beach were enjoyable. The park is well maintained and, being seniors, only a $2 per person entry fee was levied.

Loving the Maine State Park Pass. I'm exploring/rediscovering all sorts of amazing spots I hadn't been to since I was a kid. Came to Reid State Park (which I saw another reviewer say was "more authentic and quiet" than other Maine beaches, and I don't agree with that!) a couple times throughout the past year (in all sorts of weather) for long walks on the sand and nearby trails or really good swim days (the kind where you don't even need a boogie board; you can just ride the waves with your body). The tide comes in here fast and dramatically changes the landscape of the beach, so think ahead about where you drop your stuff (or be prepared to move). Also, agree with other reviewers, and while it might seem annoyingly repetitive: the seagulls here in the summer might be the absolute worst, second only to Old Orchard Beach. You've been warned!

    Great day at the coast.

It always feel strange to rate natural places, like this. I mean, how do you rate the rocky coast? The beach? But...What a gorgeous spot. I grew up in Maine and have visited dozens of times. A few days ago I was able to share it with two of my grandchildren. We spent the afternoon searching for things in tide pools, had a picnic, and watched the baby ducks. The restrooms were clean, plenty of parking, great spot for people of all ages.

Oh I love this beach. It's a bit more wild and interesting than Popham. Love the trails! My favorite place is the picnic tables right beside the wooden bridge. At low tide, there's tidal pools here with lots of critters to explore. The main beach, is very accessible. With a boardwalk and benches at the top. Waves are HUGE! Swim at your own risk though. Facilities are clean. There's sometimes a food truck or ice cream cart here, enjoy! Seagulls aren't as nasty as at Popham...BUT! If you're near the lagoon, watch out for horseflies. Ouch.

This is my family's second favorite beach in Maine after Popham. For you out of staters, I mean no disrespect to the southern Maine beaches with their wide sand beaches and numerous amenities. It's just that after 45 years of visiting the Maine coast, I am now more attracted to the quieter and more authentic beaches. That being said Reid State Park is no hidden gem and can get packed very easily in the summer. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful park with gorgeous scenery and lots of wildlife to observe. As with Popham, it is best to come early or late since prime time can be difficult.

Great place for a picnic and some Plein air painting! I went here to enjoy the scenery for some painting with artist friends.

Reid state park is a jem! It is a real joy to take my family to a place that has so much to offer in the way of natural beauty and nature. Miles of sandy beaches. Beautiful rock formations over the rugged surf. Vast stretches of marsh. Very nice changing and rest room areas provided. Numerous water front (some shaded) picnic tables with stand up grills. And one can't forget the views. Absolutely amazing. With the sound of the surf crashing onto the rocks and the lobster traps bobbing in the water you might catch a glimpse of a shorebird looking for a quick meal. A great place to take the family...both young and old. My only complaint and it's the reason for only 4 stars is the admission cost. I was a bit taken back at the $8 per person for out of state non residents. I would have been happy with say $20 per vehicle. Other than that it's a great place to visit.

A pleasant unassuming place for beach goers, nature lovers, and dog owners. Grills, bathrooms, views, waves, cold water. This is Maine. Loved it.

Beautiful park with spectacular views but be sure to bring bug spray if you are going to venture through the wooded areas due to mosquitos. Beaches were clean and not over crowded and the bathrooms were in pretty good shape which is always a plus. Definitely will be returning to this little slice of heaven!

There's something for everyone. What I'm reviewing is how a spot compares to similar outdoor spots in my personal opinion. Being in nature - and remembering to carry in, carry out - is always five stars! :) Parking? Sort of. Loop trail? Yes. Well marked signs? Yes. Element of surprise? Yes. What. A. Find. Whenever I'm journeying around Maine (checking out state parks or Atlas Obscura recommended spots), I try and also find a few trails or hiking spots to check out (because the state is huge, and when I'm in an area I'm not usually in, I want to discover spots I wouldn't otherwise!). Reynolds Forest was the best part of my day! In fact, one of the most standout spots I've been to in a while! According to the Kennebec Land Trust website (https://www.tklt.org/reynolds), "This 35 acre parcel provides visitors excellent birding opportunities, interesting wildflowers and floodplain species, and views of the powerful brook (now called Goff Brook), with its foaming water roaring over exposed rocks into stone-lined pools. Part of the conservation property not visible from the trail has seen an increase in invasive Japanese knotweed and non-native bush honeysuckle, and has served as a field research site for Colby College students studying invasive plant control methods." There's some parking off the shoulder of the main road, and the walk into the woods alongside Goff Brook is lovely. It's not long before you can suddenly hear the roaring of the (small, but mighty) waterfalls (which was once used for saw and grist mills. We made sure to come after a couple days of rain and it was worth it! We gently navigated out to some exposed rocks and sat in the sun, near the falls, surrounded by tall trees for a long time. Perfect spot for a picnic (and... I think we also spotted some foragers too). There's also a small Old Farm Loop Trail that passes by fields and an old foundation a little further beyond the Streamside Trail. BEWARE OF TICKS. BEWARE OF POISON IVY. WEAR APPROPRIATE SHOES.

While driving up, down, and around the coast of Maine this summer (because sometimes you just have…read moreto take a road trip with no destination in mind) we found ourselves at Five Island Lobster Co. Looking for parking before walking around the nearby rocky coastal ledge, we ended up at a spot near a tennis court and a small woodland area with a pond called Ipcar Natural Preserve. According to a nearby sign, Georgetown "acquired these 33 acres from Maud Steussy in 1973 as part of the Five Island Waterfront Properties for the enjoyment of present and future generations. The town voted in 1994 to name the preserve in honor of Adolph Ipcar, chairman of the conservation commission, who obtained grants from the state and federal governments and led the drive for donations, advised and assisted by Ed Pert and Lloyd Pinkham." We sat for quite a while on one of the benches just absorbing nature. While everyone else behind us streamed past this peaceful spot for their steamed lobsters, we watched the ducks be ducks, frogs eat flies, and tiny fish dart back and forth - all existing quietly in their element while nearby a swarm of tourists stuffed their faces. The irony. It was such a nice way to spend time after driving for so long. The absolute definition of a hidden gem, especially if you like nature. Remember: that's all this is (a bench overlooking woods and a pond... sometimes that's all you need, though, right?). Bring a book, bring your lunch, and enjoy the outdoors.

Despite what Steff says, Ipcar Natural Preserve is more than a bench overlooking woods and a pond…read more It also includes a short hiking trail through mature spruce and pine, with a few blowdowns in the more vulnerable NE part of the preserve. On the plus side, there are plenty of baby spruce and pines growing in the sunny patches where the blowdowns occurred. In terms of terrain, the trail is on the easy side of moderate. The natural scenery is excellent -- it looks like a pretty healthy, yet old, patch of forest. But I rated it three stars because the trail is poorly marked. It's not well cleared compared to other open spaces in Georgetown; some of it is marked with blue blazes, but in other parts it's marked with surveyors' tape. Parking is in a smallish town lot.
