We left the bug spray in the hotel! TURN AROUND, DRIVE HOME AND GET THE BUG SPRAY. I'm not exaggerating here - the bugs are a HUGE issue. We *gasp!* FORGOT THE BUG SPRAY, and suffered the consequences for the next 3 days of our trip. Literally hundreds of bites on every person. DO NOT NEGLECT TO BUG SPRAY. That aside, this was AWESOME!!! Such a gorgeous hike and then the beach!! THE BEACH!! Amazing. We visited Popham State Park later in the week and it could not compare to the beauty of this secluded beach. We were almost the only ones there! I wish I had understood how lovely it would be in advance... I would have packed a backpack lunch and spent the day there. As it was, we were all fully clothed but that didn't stop most of us from getting in the water. Do plan to spend some time here!

In July and August there are a lot of insects that bite so I would avoid it then. Otherwise this place is a gem. The ocean water at the beach was super sparkly. Gorgeous. It takes about 35 to 45 minute…read morewalk to the coastline with gentle rises and falls over uneven terrain caused by exposed roots. A couple of rock walls to climb over. Lovely well maintained boardwalks cross 2 streams and a muddy section. The Elliot (0.8 miles) and Tibbitts (0.7 miles) Trails add additional lobes to the walk with additional viewpoints. Do mind the privacy of the house at the beginning of the trail. Limited parking across the road from the trailhead for about 15 cars maximum which is easily exceeded on holiday weekends with good weather. Beware of rogue waves on the slippery rocks--the coastline is notorious for being merciless to those who fall in.

It's unique in layout and they had a really cute gift shop off to the side. I love the short walk from the parking lot, location, and stairs. It's in the charming Owl's Head town and the drive in was beautiful. Definitely a place to visit if you are nearby and love lighthouses. Worth the effort and you can explore some of the small local towns and have lunch.

However, the views are majestic and entrance is free. There are ways to walk down to the beach, which is rocky as is typical in the region. The lighthouse itself is not regularly open for visitation, but there is a visitor center below it. The amount of trails and things to do is not enormous, but it is a great place to have open to the public to take as a sightseeing endeavor.

They also said pool not functional, well pool and hot tub functional and very nice. Yes it is being remodeled but we rarely heard construction equipment noise for more than a couple of minutes and it was usually a construction vehicle beeping when backing up. We had an issue with our RV and kept extending our stay waiting for a part and repair for our fridge, extending our stay was so easy. The staff was very nice. We also rented kayaks from this RV park and they were very nice kayaks. The staff at this RV park is very nice. The only minor issues we had and I know they are working on it, the RV spots are very sandy, but they are paving and growing grass. Some spots have nice lush grass not sand and while we were there, the blocked off about 4 spots because they were growing grass. Laundry was not ready to use yet, but I am sure it will be soon. If we are back in Brunswick and we probably will be back, we would stay here....also by next year would love to see all the improvements. When we are back next year, hope the same staff is there, they were all so nice and accommodating!

Rocks sea and…read morepheasants Lobster Cove Trail is a short trail that goes across Monhegan Island. Not a long trail but one that has a whole lot of great scenery. The entire island is known as a bird watchers paradise so you will probably see all kinds of different birds, some flying, some swimming and others just casually walking right in front of you. The trail is dirt with lots of rocks, roots and little but sometimes steep hills. During much of the year the trial is pretty eroded and after a large storm might resemble a stream more than a hiking trail. Like virtually all trials and roads on the island this one ends at the ocean. Of course there are incredible views, fierce and ragged rocks and even the remains of an old shipwreck or two. The fog rolls across the island extremely quickly so it can be sunny and clear one minute and all fogged in the next. Lobster Cove Trail is a wonderful way to get to see some of Monhegan Island, especially it you don't have a lot of time to spend on the island. No matter what time of the year or day you go, the scenery is guaranteed to be spectacular.

This lighthouse was first constructed in 1827 and again rebuilt in 1835 due to poor construction of the first tower. The lighthouse became fully automated in 1934.

This lighthouse felt extremely remote to me because we'd been driving from Camden and visited two…read moreothers prior to this. This one was about 30 minutes one way off the main road and was isolated from much else. There is a cute inn very nearby and a small town with an ice cream shop and a few stores and art galleries. It's charming and if you are staying anywhere nearby, this is a great spot to come and visit during the day, go through the museum and enjoy the grounds. We visited later after it was closed at 5pm so, parking was free, and we were free to roam around on the rocks and enjoy the views. This lighthouse by far had some of the best rock and views. Very pretty and you can get up close and personal with the lighthouse here.

They had mechanical difficulties for our trip back but it turned out to be such a wonderful side trip... we took a ride back to port Clyde and were met with a staff member- his name is Thomas and wow!! He was brilliant- so intelligent, well informed, well spoken and just a pleasure to be around!! He made all the difference in an otherwise difficult situation.
