I stayed for 3 long weeks and enjoyed here quite a lot! The camp area is very clean and unique setting from typical camp ground. I end up staying at GW, Graham's way. The view is awsome that miles long river is in front of camp site. Due to the location is on hill side, the tent location could be a bit challenging for those who needs absolute flat ground, but you get undisturbed beautiful forest/river/nature scene every morning at here. I camp many places and didn't bothered at all. The staffs are very helpful. Pamela who took care of me was very polite, cheerful and supportive. I found water at shower needed a bit warmer. After requesting it, they quickly rose the temp. The toilet paper was nice quality for a camp site, rather than super thin. the shower/bathroom area was always clean during my stay. I recommend 10B site as well. The site is lower than GW but the view is great. If you do kayaking, you can go to blakish water inlet from here. The con is you need to walk up hill when you need a bathroom. read more

No shade. Like being in a hot area. Better less costly camping available. Nothing to be impressed about. The black flys and the horse flys are the worst. Biting and leaving large welts on you. Stay clear unless you like being eaten up. read more

I stayed at Chewonki Campground very recently towards the end of the season, after all of the kids had gone back to school. Well, let me tel you, this place is fantastic. The owners are incredibly friendly, and the grounds are gorgeous. Their website features photos of specific campsites, which was why I chose it. I was looking for a tent site that wasn't crammed together like parking spaces, and I got it. My site was massive to say the least, and completely surrounded on 2 sides by trees, and the front side by a beautiful water view. It made for quite a trek to the restrooms, but I'd rather do that for a bit of privacy. The hookup sites are a little more conventional as far as the space goes, but they're also more central and towards the top of the hill, affording a great view of the water as well. The only cons are that at night you can hear the traffic on Route 1, but I'm sure that's true for most campgrounds. Secondly, it's near the end of the runway for the Wiscasset airport, so once in a while a small plane flies overhead during the day. As an aviation enthusiast, I didn't mind, and I'm sure kids would love it. This is absolutely my favorite campground now, and I'm sure I'll return in the future. Anyone looking for a place that gives some more space, privacy, and even grass should definitely go to Chewonki. read more

Very pleasant and helpful staff, which is a family run business since 1961. The grounds were in pristine condition, as well as the bathroom/shower facilities. Very friendly environment, home made ice cream social on Saturday evenings. And to top it of, the view from a number of camp sites was gorgeous. Would definitely return to Chewonki Campground if and when returning to northern Maine. read more

Nice campground. Most sites are rather large. Everything was clean and well maintained. Main complaint was that there was no paper towels or way to dry hands in the restroom. You do have to pay to shower, but 8 minutes for a quarter gives you plenty of time, for the price per night I don't think one should have to pay. read more

Very expensive. The area is nice and they keep it clean. Very dusty. They were mowing the lawn right in front of my site and created a large dust cloud that went all over my stuff thru the tent. Dumpster getting emptied at 6:30 AM w backup alarm and banging. Couldn't they tell them people are sleeping and schedule during day? Loads of stone being delivered next to the site at 7AM. Once again -people are sleeping, why would you schedule so early? Not a lot of common sense happening here. Blinking lights from the airport all night long. Headlights beaming thru anytime someone drives by. Would not go back, too many other choices and less $. read more

We tent-camped here for two weeks while participating in a Shelter Institute class and thought it was terrific. The sites are beautifully laid out with thoughtful landscaping and open space. The bath house was immaculate and showers were hot ($0.25 for 8 minutes). Because we were very busy, we did not get a chance to take advantage of the amenities (salt water pool, canoe rental, etc). The owners and staff were friendly, helpful and very attentive to the quality of the experience. It's not too far off Rte 1 , but far enough to be quiet and allow for safe biking/ running on the road. read more

This is our second time here and I'm sure it will not be our last. It's not for every family. .. certainly not one with small children looking for pirate ships and planned children/family events. ... or for everyone. There isn't wifi or cable TV. You have to want to "unplug" or you may suffer techno withdrawal. But the pool is clean and there are tennis courts, a volley ball area, kayaks and canoes to rent, a one hold golf course, and plenty of peace and quiet. The grounds are immaculate and beautifully landscaped. The sites are spacious; with easy access. If you want plenty of laid back relaxation in a quiet and picturesque enviornment, you'll love this place. read more

Imagine traveling the Mid-coast section of Maine and you come across a beautiful estate with pine trees, oaks and maples, and even apple trees. The lawns are perfectly manicured and the landscape is accented with a mix of annuals, perennials and wildflowers. There is a clay tennis court, a salt water pool and a kiddie pool, a one hole golf hole, a horseshoe court and a volleyball net and court. Now, imagine your surprise when you find out you can camp there!!! What an absolutely beautiful campground run by wonderful people. The RV sites are nice, but the tent sites are even nicer. Traveling in a 38 foot coach we stayed 5 nights in a site for big rigs. The site we had lacked gravel. The park is going for the green look and maybe that is why the sites were all grassy. If it had rained our grass pad would have been a mud pit and we would not have been able to get out. Is it that hard to put a little gravel down on the dirt? On the positive side because of all the grass there is no dust, which means not having to wash the coach after our stay. It is a very clean rv park (one of the cleanest we have been to). We had to pay an extra fee for checking in early. When you stay for as many nights as we did, I do not believe they should charge an extra fee for checking in only 90 minutes early ($45). Our satellite worked great here as our site was in the middle of the big open field. If you have a dog there is ample area to walk, however beware of their dog policy. Under no circumstance can you leave your dog alone in your coach or trailer, not even for 30 minutes. If you do....and you're caught, you will be kicked out. If you are looking for a quiet and clean park where you can sit outside and relax... go here. We enjoyed our stay, but because of their dog policy I do not think we would ever go back. read more

Go here every year with my family and friends and have the most amazing time! The people who own it keep the sites up great and everything is extremely clean! Plenty to do within a short ride and the prices to stay are beyond reasonable! Just returned from our second trip to Chewonki and we can't wait to go back. We stayed on site 13 this time (9 & 10 last time with a bigger group) and the upgrade was worth it. With a family of 5, the space, water and electricity (we are in tents but it was great to charge phones) were luxurious and the view was amazing. In one day we easily swam, kayaked, played tennis and hiked - all without leaving the property. The staff are warm, friendly and helpful and the facilities are well cared for. The landscaping is both practical and beautiful. It is a little pricier than some other campgrounds, but since we usually are able to only stay for long weekends, the ease and convenience offered is well worth it. read more

Chewonki is a peaceful, gorgeous campground. Sites are spacious, many with beautiful views of the ocean inlet (wonderful for kayaking, canoeing, etc). The bathrooms are immaculate and always well-stocked. Large salt water pool, tennis court, one-hole golf course and nature trail are all incorporated seamlessly into the environment. Owners Ann and Pam and their families are always friendly, welcoming and accommodating. We return year after year and hope to do so for for many years to come! read more
