Food is very good. The "hot" level of spice is honestly at the perfect temperature. Not too painful but challenging.

Takeout review: We placed a dinner order and it was ready in 20 minutes. Super fast and great service. Already off to an amazing start. Cons: the chicken pieces in the butter chicken dish were huge and difficult to eat. I dish they were cut into more bite size pieces. In general the butter chicken tasted great when doesn't it lol Pros: the saag paneer was amazing. The texture was perfect and the seasoning was great. The naan was also more memorable than usual. Way more garlicky than i was expecting (in a good way) The lamb biryani was a little expensive but also very good. To summarize, this is the perfect Indian takeout spot. Not the best I've ever had but an excellent choice for neighborhood takeout. I'd gladly go back and even dine in. read more

After craving for Tandoori chicken, I came here with a group of friends for an early dinner today. I must say that the dish was nothing short of amazing since the piping hot chicken pieces served on the sizzling plate was exactly what I wanted. The other dishes our table also ordered include Gobi Manchurian, Chapati Murg Tikk, Murg Adraki, garlic naan, onion naan, butter naan, butter chicken, Malai kofta, and Lachha Paratha. While I loved everything, butter chicken was my favorite. Butter naan was also melt-in-your-mouth good, and I simply couldn't get enough of it. What also tops the experience overall was the Mango Lassi drink. For some reason, I never got to try this drink until today. At the first sip, I couldn't believe how good it was. I soooo loved this slightly sweet, tangy, and aromatically wonderful mango drink so much that I must have more of it at the next chance I get. Service here is no frills yet adequate and professional. Our server was helpful in catering to our needy requests (we had to return butter chicken back initially since it was too spicy), and he definitely ran the show solo as he's the only one who manned the dining area while we were there with another table today. Since the place is a bit small and cozy, I liked that it provided an intimate setting for a get-together with friends or family. I wouldn't mind returning to Saffron to try out more of their other dishes soon. read more

This is some of the best Indian food I've had in Philly, second only to Amma's (which is much less reliable/ timely for takeout and delivery). I'm especially glad for the monthly specials- tonight the Bhel Poori was excellent and new to us (a Mumbai chaat!), and the lamb banjara was delicious. The Saag paneer is so smooth and complex, and I appreciated the dal e behar as well. Thanks for respecting the needed heat in a medium spice without going overboard! read more

The food was excellent. awesome got an order of the salmon and though it seems a little on the pricier side, you definitely get a healthy serving of salmon. It was phenomenal. Food and service well beyond expectations. We called in for a pick up order that was ready in 15 minutes. Everything was labeled and packaged very well. Next time I will dine in as the ambiance is inviting and intimate. We had the perfectly fried onion bhajia, saag paneer, malai kofta, and the chicken tikka masala with a side of raita. After every bite we kept looking at each other in disbelief as this was the best Indian food we've ever had. Rich, creamy, and full of flavor. Saffron is leaps and bounds superior to the establishment (Mood) that was there before. A welcome and great addition to Northern Liberties and the surrounding areas. read more

Great new addition to the neighborhood! Will def be our go to for Indian food. We tried our usual dishes we order at Indian places like chicken tikka masala, garlic and onion naan, and Gobi Manchurian. All of the dishes were great! We got it for delivery and it was super fast. We made it to Saffron for lunch yesterday, and were not disappointed! Unlike most Indian restaurants in this neighborhood, Saffron represents South Indian cuisine. We each got a lunch special, (there's a large assortment of them!) as well as splitting a Masala Dosa, a southern Indian treat I haven't encountered since I lived in NYC. It was delicious; stuffed with potatoes and with a dipping sauce and coconut chutney on the side. The sag paneer was flavorful, and did not skimp on the cheese cubes. My husband's lamb tikka was tender and delicious. Our neighbor, who hails from southern India herself, was impressed with her vegetarian curry. Spring for the pickle medley. It was literally my favorite thing and complements all the other food. Service was attentive and the server knew the menu and could answer any questions knowledgeably.
