They were a decent size too, perhaps larger than the ones we've been seeing at the main grocery stores for 99 cents. The store also sold stainless steel pots and pans for a cheap price. The store reminded me of a Fruitcana but better.

Funny, I've passed this part of Denman a gazillion times since I moved to Van in the summer of…read more2017, and I never knew there was a No Frills located in this old, unassuming mall. There are no signs on the street, indicating a large grocery store is here. Wow. Came here last night after a dinner nearby to pick up some groceries. I'm a huge No Frills fan in general, so I was already predisposed to like this place. And I did! Super well-lit, well-organized, well-stocked, clean, with cashiers who actually smile at you. An abundance of available carts and baskets. Excellent prices (for Van standards). For me, personally, this is totally my kind of store. That said, this particular site is a bit smaller than others and, as such, doesn't have all the bells and whistles that some other No Frills has; i.e., no pharmacy here, no real "ethnic food" section, etc. (The Joti's No Frills on Broadway that I frequent has a ton more products and services, but it is larger in small, so can accommodate more). Still, if I lived in the West End this would be my go-to grocery store. Just can't beat the prices here.

DISCRIMINATION AGAINST PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES…read more I am a person with disabilities and I rely on a service dog as an accommodation related to my disability. During my visit to the store, on August 7th 2026 at 1:40 pm, I was approached by store personnel and was asked to show a certification card for my service dog. I explained calmly and respectfully that according to the British Columbia's human rights protections, a person with a disability should not be denied service merely because their guide or service dog is not certified under the Guide Dog and Service Dog Act. I explained to the security guard that the certificate was not mandatory. And it's not. The security guard followed me the entire time I was in the store as if I were a criminal. I asked to talk to the manager. I offered to show the manager the relevant British Columbia Human Rights information directly from a PDF saved on my phone. I was not refusing to cooperate; I was actively trying to resolve the situation peacefully and explain the applicable rules. I also explained that I had previously provided the store with documentation supporting my need for a service dog. This included a form signed by my family physician supporting my use of a service dog, as well as a government-issued document authorizing me to have a service dog. Despite my attempts to explain the situation and provide relevant documentation, the staff did not meaningfully consider what I was presenting. I remained calm, respectful, and cooperative throughout the entire incident. I did not cause a disturbance, behave aggressively or otherwise engage in conduct that would justify the way this situation was escalated. The conduct of the store manager was particularly distressing. On several occasions, the manager shouted at me and raised his voice in front of dozens of customers who were watching the confrontation. This caused me profound embarrassment and humiliation. I was made to feel as though I had done something wrong in front of a large number of people, despite my remaining calm and attempting to resolve the matter respectfully. The manager, together with other store employees, ultimately ordered me to leave the store. The situation was then escalated further when the store contacted the police. At that point, I was confused and distressed. I did not know whether I was expected to remain there until police arrived or whether I was legally permitted to leave. I did not want to simply walk away and have it appear that I was fleeing from the situation, particularly because I had done nothing wrong. I therefore contacted the police myself and explained what had happened. I asked whether I was permitted to leave. I was told that I could leave, and I then went home. By that point, I was experiencing significant emotional distress and an anxiety crisis. I left because I needed to remove myself from the situation and try to recover in the safety of my home. The incident has continued to affect me emotionally. I was humiliated, exposed, and treated as though I were doing something wrong because I was accompanied by my service dog. I am still distressed by what happened. What is particularly concerning to me is that I did everything I reasonably could to resolve the situation peacefully. I explained my disability-related need, attempted to explain the applicable British Columbia human rights protections, offered to show the relevant government information, and identified documentation supporting my need for a service dog. Instead of engaging with that information or attempting to accommodate me, the situation escalated to a public confrontation, my removal from the store, and a call to police.
