Dear Safeway owners- We LOVE our Safeway. We really do. But- this the only grocery store in a large area. PLEASE build another or make a significantly larger one! In the City- you build grocery stores everywhere and there is plenty of room- but our grocery store is simply too small to hold such a large crowd. You HAVE to see this! The numbers aren't lying! In the summer- it's impossible to go grab some groceries quickly, and now it's getting like that in the rest of the year too. Please give us a larger or another store! The aisles are REALLY narrow, for example I couldn't get past a woman on a mobility scooter with my cart... but they are clearly and we'll labeled, so items are easier to find. Free parking outside. Staff very friendly and helpful. Recommended! read more

I went shopping last week and saw that most of the fruit was moldy. It was incredibly disgusting and when I told someone named "Susan" she shrugged me off and walked away. Not to mention I have had problems with this Susan lady in the past. I was at Starbucks getting a drink when she walked over and started yelling at a worker over her drink and made everyone wait in line while the worker had to remake it for her. The worker was very apologetic but the lady wasn't. She just walked off all snotty and bratty! read more

We used to LOVE Safeway grocery pickup. But over the last 4 years it has gone from amazing and reliable service to terrible service. We've been asked to get out and load our own groceries, we have handicap plates for a reason. We've been given the wrong items, we have been shorted items, and most recently we placed our order a 6:28pm on 10/10 for a 2pm pickup on 10/11, and they didn't even start picking our order until 4:43pm on 10/11. I never thought I'd miss Walmart, but I'm starting to get there. read more

The store was clean and well organized. The store is well stocked that I can see. Fresh produce and meat. The butchers in the meat department earned them 5 stars for assisting and advice. Extra friendly staff throughout the store. Prices can be on the higher end but the sales are good. read more

4.5/5 stars This is a beautiful store. It is large and has great sections like meat, deli, produce and pharmacy. I have had to deal with a smaller store for a year so this is nirvana. We have loved the steaks that we have bought there. They were delicious and very tender. We have had great luck with the Safeway/Vons meat department. They hire great people who know their jobs well and are happy to help you. They have a great inventory of goods. I did have a problem finding Tajín last trip. I had looked in the Spice, International and Produce without luck) I asked someone (who happened to work in the meat department) who took me to someone he knew working in produce and he showed me right to it. It was down on a wire rack. They only had low sodium but I think I like that better now anyway! They went the extra to help which means a lot. I will definitely go back and recommend it to anyone. I gave this place ONE STAR because there us no option to give it ZERO STARS. Corporate might as well bulldoze the place after firing everyone, this store is a lost cause. Horribly argumentative employees who even when they have NO CHECK STANDS OPEN AT ALL, will mouth off to me and cuss me out because they are busy doing other things. They apparently believe that Safeway exists to provide Turk a jib, customers shopping there id s privilege for US. Hey, hire the homeless, they obviously need jobs, where rbis business breeds an environment where their employees think it's a hassle to work there. Instead, put up a Stater BROS, Aloha-Beta, or a Bashas in it's place, but never a Safeway/Albertsons. Oh, and if they do have a check stand open at night, there is only one with more than 10 families in line at any given time. The store looks like crap, they are always out of everything. Went Wednesday for specials and they were already out of the 3 items I went for. Summer people are not even here yet and it's even worse when they arrive. Poor planning on managements part. They never seem to stock enough of anything. One item I'd like to buy is usually on sale as 3 for $. Never more than 2 on the shelf. Several checkers are just downright rude. The last two visits have left us very disappointed. No physical distancing. Over 1/4 of people not wearing masks. Zero enforcement. We've even watched workers converse with people not wearing masks. Some staff don't as well. Disappointing, Safeway is a big national company so there should be a standard even in a town with a Trump HQ. As quite a few other reviews suggest, this is NOT a good place to shop. Go somewhere else if at ALL possible - regardless of distance or even price. It's ONLT due to lack of competition that this place is even able to stay in business. Give someone else your patronage; this place does NOT deserve it! Need a restroom? Even the portable toilets at the nearby city park are likely to be both cleaner and more available. 5 Star Meat Department! Nice, Clean Store! Friendly Staff! I love the meat department here and this is what keeps bring me back! I like the hand selected monster steaks, salmon to my size preference and everything tasty waiting in front of me! The staff in the meat department is great too! The staff storewide seems really friendly which I appreciate! The store is clean and organized. It was interesting to see a shoplifter kid arrested day before yesterday here. I would shop here more often, but many of the prices are higher than places like Walmart so I end up splitting all good value on my meat needs and some stuff here and most of the rest elsewhere. This is probably the biggest Safeway I have ever been in. The ceilings never seemed to end. Like a Costco but a Safeway with out the pallets of goods everywhere. They were doing a lot of repairs on the exterior too. They must be doing good because they had painters and welders doing all kinds of stuff. They only had one bathroom from what I can tell and it was very clean but shabby at the same time. I don't know if no one in Show Low works or not because there were tons of people walking around too. Young, old you name it they were hear grocery shopping. I bought a few items to cook dinner for my grandparents and went to the self check out. The watermelon I wanted to buy wouldn't scan and the woman looking over the self check area said type in the number on the bar code. I did it three times and she was no where to be found. I figured out how to do a search for an item. I found watermelon and I don't know if it was the right price I just wanted to get the hell out of there by that point. She was really snotty and rude. I probably went to junior high with her but couldn't tell. Also there was no shade to park my car under for my dog while I went in. I had to park in the Kmart parking lot next door. They need more trees. Luckily it wasn't that hot outside so we were fine. Biggest doesn't always mean better. read more

Avoid at all costs. I've lived here for 4 years now, and have shopped here religiously, honestly, because it's the only grocery store in town besides Walmart. It's literally the only place I have shopped at month after month. Every single time, I kid you not, I have been overcharged in some way or another. Either the normal price on the shelf has been less than what shows up on my receipt, the "just4u" coupons have not worked in one way or another (the scanner on the app doesn't compute what's being scanned, the items that you have added don't automatically sync, or the cashier tells me I "have too many coupons" when I bring the ad in for her to scan, and tells me to pay full price and go to customer service to get my money back), the cashier scans items more than once, the list goes on and on. Don't even get me started on their bagging training. I am writing a review, tonight, because I just discovered that the Aidells sausage that I just bought 3 days ago expired February 7th. Over a month ago. I was depending on that for dinner tonight, especially with ALL THE REST OF THEIR GROCERIES being bought out, due to the coronavirus. Yes, I should have looked first, but it's literally their job to make sure expired food is not on the shelf. This store has been lacking in work ethic, customer service, and professionalism for as long as I've been here, but I, like other residents, don't have much of a choice. Almost every time I shop here, I am overcharged by $6-$10 at the very least. Yes, I know that's not "a lot," but that is 6-10 boxes of spaghetti, in my mind, which is, in fact, quite a lot. I get nothing but attitude when I take my receipt to get a FRACTION of what I just gave them, back, so much so to the point that they now have to "look in my bags" to make sure I'm not "making anything up." This is quite literally $10 out a $200+ bill. I see customers lined up all the time with their receipt in hand, waiting for a refund. Needless to say, I have had it, and I will be making the 20+ minute drive to the next town to do my shopping. I will not step foot in this store again, as long as I can help it. I advise everyone else do the same. I feel they do not care to fix any of these problems because they are the only store in town, and people, residents and visitors alike, MUST go to them to get their groceries, if they don't want to make a drive. Save yourself the headache, and take the drive. :) P.S. My son even says no one should come here because this is such a bad store. read more

The meat department keeps expired meat on the shelves...it happens all the time for some reason! Last time it was expired hamburger meat that was all gray on the inside. During this corona virus (hoax)...they tried to deny a refund for their 100% Guaranteed Meat claiming I had to have a receipt...all the store managers had to get involved in the transaction too as I stood there being treated like a leper. It's a shame, but the manager thinks customer service has been suspended due to this (to me and anyone with a brain cell) made up virus. There are choices to do my shopping here ...after years of shopping primarily at this Safeway... I decided not shop this Safeway again. They never have anything! Sometimes the shelves are actually bare. Can't believe how mismanaged this store is. Also make sure you check your receipt on sale items. My receipts are constantly wrong! If a customer mentions any form of complaint management is even ruder than the employees that work there. Thank god they don't enforce a mask mandate! I'm so sick of all the people (many with facial hair which breaks any possible seal) who insist on wearing poorly fitted, filthy, useless masks, which do not provide any protection from viruses. THEY'VE PUT A PRICE ON MY LIFE...... In my opinion, this is a piss-poor excuse for a pharmacy and shouldn't even be in the business. I may soon face death due to their practices......and they could care less! Let me explain: *I was diagnosed with Juvenile Onset Diabetes in 1963 - Type 1, Insulin dependent. *I was deemed disabled by all my doctors in 2010, because of complications from the disease. *I live on Social Security plus a small pension and am covered under Medicare and a supplemental policy through my Union Hall which basically pays what Medicare doesn't. *I get all my Insulin Pump supplies - WITH NO CO-PAY - through Direct Diabetes, which bills Medicare and my supplemental insurance for COMPLETE PAYMENT of the claim. *I get 700 - 800 Accu-Check test strips every 3 months - WITH NO CO-PAY - through a mail-order pharmacy, which bills Medicare and my supplemental insurance for COMPLETE PAYMENT of the claim. BUT WHEN I GO TO THIS SAFEWAY PHARMACY TO GET MY INSULIN - THE MEDICINE I NEED TO SUSTAIN LIFE - I'VE BEEN ORDERED BY ONE OF THEIR CORPORATE EXECS, JOE K., THAT I WILL NEED TO BRING A $45 CO-PAY.........WHICH HAS NEVER BEEN REQUIRED UNDER MY SUPPLEMENTAL POLICY........ Years ago, when WALGREENS was in the Network on my supplemental policy, I NEVER paid a dime when I picked up my Insulin, because all this stuff - Insulin, test strips and pump supplies - is covered under MEDICARE PART B, not D, and is billed accordingly.........Frankly, in my opinion, if you are in the "Pharmacy" business and do not know how to bill Medicare and supplementals under Part B, you shouldn't burden your clients by even being in the business! I've got enough Insulin to perhaps last me through the end of next week......and I ain't paying $45 that I don't owe or have! Safeway pharmacy has been our pharmacy for years but after the latest visit I am highly rethinking this decision. I call in a refill for my husband and it was supposed to be ready for pick up after 2. So we went in around 4:30 and they literally ask what was the name and dosage because they didn't want to give him the wrong drug. I was like it's a refill you should have the info for it on your computer. The tech seemed so stupid to me especially since she kept repeating herself and I should understand they don't know what to give him. I had to call home and have my son give me the name and dosage off the bottle as if they're going to just take my word for it. Anyway the tech approached another and whispered in her ear and at that point I was fed up, I left my husband there to straighten it out. Apparently there had been a few others with the same issue that day but instead of explaining that to us the tech just made herself look completely unprofessional. Just had bad experience with the Starbucks there- no customer service. I forgot to ask for cream in my ice coffee. The barista gave me attitude, dump my drink and then made iced cream with little coffee. Three thumbs down for service, experience, and product!! read more

I stopped in this morning after I got off working the overnight shift because I won some money on a lottery ticket and everyone said Safeway is the place to go for large lottery ticket winnings. Unfortunately, the customer service desk was closed, Altho I stood there 20 minutes before anyone bothered to tell me. The cashiers nearby glanced over at me a couple of times and looked like they were annoyed that I was standing there. Finally, I walked over to one and she said to me with an attitude "they don't open till 8". I've worked in retail for some time and at grocery stores and if I had seen a customer waiting at the desk I would've paged a manager to come to the desk. If they weren't able to help, fine, but at least give an attempt at good customer service. Very sad. read more

I just have to say that the manager should know that when they run a great special in their ad that they should make sure they have plenty on hand. For example they had 18 ct eggs on sale 2 for $5. Get there the same day the sale starts and guess what...no eggs. All the manager has to say is "come earlier"! How about prepare in advance for a big sale. It wasn't just this sale but EVERY sale there is it seems. The lines are beyond horrible and the scheduling obviously isn't done around the sales. Way down on the list with Walmart. We do all of our grocery shopping here I'm actually probably stop by for a few things three times a week or so. Their meat department is great can't find better quality and cuts up here anyways. The store is well kept messes are cleaned quickly. However certain nights the lines are awful with 5-6 people in each line they choose to only open 3 of the 6 registers. And the lines back right into the aisles which makes it chaos for people still shopping, and to make things worse often times you see other employees elsewhere doing minor things or the manager standing talking with another customer/ employee when lines are long with half the registers open it's annoying but let's be real it's Safeway or Walmart in show low and Safeway is a little cheaper with better produce/ meat. read more
