Great food spread at the deli. Weird that they don't want to serve it to you. I politely asked a lady if I could have some rice and she snapped at me. It felt like communist China. I had to stand there and wait for another person to serve me as she flatly refused, and eventually someone finally came out from the back. The question is who is all the food for if you don't want to serve it??? read more

Brandon in the deli knows what he is doing!!! So accommodating. Ran out of an item but figured out a way to make my meal without telling me their was a problem, he just created solutions and that deserves recognition. Also he is an excellent multitasker. I love this Safeway it is pretty much the only place we ever shop pretty much everyone here knows me and my family by name. It is laid out really great easy to find what you need if your in a hurry. Sometimes it takes a while to get through check out when they are busy but you can expect that anywhere so not worth taking stars away for it. Store is always clean and for the most part stocked very well, great sales and mark downs and everyone in the store is always so nice!! There is also a starbucks inside, while I don't use this starbucks I know that it is convenient for a lot of people! read more

I bought 3 items at the deli. The sesame & orange chicken were horrible. I actually spit it out. The Mac & cheese; also awful. Didn't eat any of it. $8. Thrown away. i go there once a month, for work. Had I not tasted it before leaving, I would have taken it back. The CDA safeways was always good. Looks like I can only return to store purchased at. that food was horrible! read more

Safeway has always been great. They even rent some movies there too. Good prices, great selection and friendly service. I always see someone I know shopping here too! But I don't dislike any of the grocery stores around and this one is conveniently located. Been coming here for years. Starbucks inside! I prefer to use Yokes but this is a close second choice. read more

Safeway is usually known for it reliably good sandwiches- not so at Sandpoint store. Was told "regular girl" was busy and woman with a hacking cough and running nose would take my order. Toppings limited- no spinach, etc.. Did not cut sandwich in half and wrapped so poorly that sandwich ends were left exposed and fillings/juices ran out everywhere. Ugh. Also signage with conflicting info - one says soda and chips $1.99 and another says $3.00 to make combo. Won't be back. read more

Omg out of all the pies in town this bakery has the best. The only problem is the peach pie was primarily clumps of sugar with a thickening agent, but it was still good. For some reason this town has hardly any frozen pies. But that's OK because they make up for it with the fresh ones in this bakery. I suggest buying it by the slice first to figure out which one you like. read more

On Chinese New Year, I came in and went to the deli to get some take out, there were so many choices and I didn't notice that there was a special, well Nikki in the deli came over and shared her thoughts, got me fixed up with a fantastic dinner and saved me over $10! We came to Sandpoint for a little family vacation. We rented a house for the week and Safeway is less than a block away so we came here to get our groceries for the week. They store itself is nice. It had all the items we needed. It's a bit pricey but nothing you wouldn't expect from a small town with few options. I brought my 91 year old grandfather with me. He is in the early stages of dementia so can get confused at times. We got our items and went to check out. There was staff everywhere and so I was surprised when there was only one person checking out. There was a line of 3 people with full carts so in the interest of getting out as fast as possible we chose to do a self checkout. This is where it went bad. There was an older gal to start with and she was super nice. I'm sorry I didn't get her name. We had so many items that we had to move our bags to the adjacent counter as we filled them up. Of course this caused a "flag" to go off and the checker to come over to us. The older gal didn't even bother and just push a button so we could continue. About halfway through a younger girl took over. Her name was Julia. She got the "flag" and came over to us. She asked us what the last item was that we put in our bag. To make this long story shorter, I mistakenly said the ribs. It was actually broccoli. She told me I was wrong and that I had not paid for the ribs. Basically acting as if we were trying to steal. This caused grandpa to become confused. I immediately realized my mistake and told her that the broccoli was the last item and was forced to show her the screen that showed we did indeed check the ribs. She was snotty and rude so I asked for a manager. The assistant manager Shirley Sands came over. I explained my frustration about the long wait for checkout and she was awesome. She apologized and explained that they had enough staff to help but that the checker should have called for assistance when the line became longer. Shirley immediately recognized my grandfathers dementia and started to engage him him conversation as she insisted on finishing our checkout personally. She was so sweet and gentle with my sweet grandpa that I will forever be grateful. Because of her, my grandpa settled down and did not get "stuck" in the moment that Julia created. At the end, Shirley called for someone to help us being the items to our car and then left. The "helper" did not materialize but no big deal. We were fine. The only reason I give three stars is for the store itself and the wonderful way Shirley handled the situation. Julia needs more training in customer service! Shirley is a gem! I may bring her some flowers before we leave. We have since been getting extra items down the street at Super 1 foods. No problems there!!!! read more

The quality of food in the deli, Chinese food has gone WAY down. I went at 5:30 on a Wednesday afternoon. The fried rice looked fresh so I bought a large carton. It wasn't cooked all the way and was crunchy. The chow mein container was full but looked old so I only got a small one. It was all dried out and unedible. I bought a small General Tsos, as it looked ok, and is my favorite, but it was way over seasoned with garlic. I don't normally write reviews, but this was bad, and I hope someone at Safeway sees this and makes a change. I won't be eating there anytime soon. read more
