I shop at the Safeway in Pollock Pines CA and was appalled to find out that the manager of the store followed me out of the store and took pictures of me and my family as we were loading groceries. When I confronted him on why, he only said "you know why" and of course I had no idea. He was belligerent, rude and absolutely embarrassed me in front of my family and I will continue to escalate this up the Safeway chain of command. I did want to comment that the Pollock Pines Safeway, which I have been shopping at for many years is one of the reasons I moved there and have always been impressed by the quality of the store - just this one incident has poisoned this impression. Later I learned that he thought I stole my groceries and when I offered to show him the receipt, he refused - Poor Management and Customer Relation Skills! read more

$17 for a build your own cold sandwich with only turkey, cheese, and sauce?! Crazy. When I asked if that was really the right price the lady just shrugged her shoulders and said yup‍ go to subway across the street!! More options and way cheaper read more

The prices are pretty high hence the 4 stars, but I get why. I'm writing this review to highlight the bagger girl- I wish I knew her name- she has a shaved head. She's the sweetest girl on the planet and makes shopping there a treat! What a gem she is to safeway!! read more

I just had the worst experience here. The checker was a complete **** wouldn't sell me alcohol even tho I was sober, claimed I was intoxicated (do you know the CA ABC laws) wouldn't provide her name after being harassing and threatening to 86 me for jokingly running through the store teasing my girlfriend. She's a complete joke acted 110% unprofessional stated "you picked a winner to my girlfriend" I'm filling a complaint with corporate in the morning as I'm an ex Safeway employee and know the policies. She was completely unprofessional to the extremely rude. Get rid of her. (White long dark Hair would not provide name) read more

Honestly the worst grocery experience of my life. The customer service was beyond awful. I work in the food industry and I understand that it can sometimes be hard to fake being happy and nice all night providing good customer service. But literally NONE of the employees said a single word to us. The lack of effort was unbelievable. Our cashier was far too busy talking with another employee to even greet us or tell us our total. Aside from terrible customer service the lines at the registers were ridiculous. I will not be back to this safeway anytime soon read more

Ok, so the store itself is fine. The produce is usually very good. The staff are friendly. The meat is ok, the selection/inventory is average for a small town grocery, and the fish is below average. Unless you have a very large family, Safeway would like you to shop elsewhere, or die, or whatever... just don't come here. They jack the price on many items to be completely uncompetitive, then have a "sale" to bring the prices down to normal, but ONLY if you buy a crazy quantity. It's really madenning. Some recent examples: - 4 lbs of saltine crackers - 10 liters of Pepsi - 6 cans of chili -4 lbs of pasta - 2 gal of milk - 2 loaves of bread And the list goes on. Who in their right mind would buy four pounds of crackers at once??? read more

Friendly employees. Understaffed. Outrageously overpriced. Very disappointing steaks and produce, espeically considering the outrageous pricing. This week was the last straw. I thought paying more to save a few dollars in gas would even out. Wrong. 80 bucks, after discount card, for stuff I could have gotten for 50 bucks down the hill. Trust me, an avid shopper, I know my prices. I'm really pretty pissed off with the steaks and produce on my last two trips. And they had 18 count eggs on sale.... all out... except for a bunch of open containers full of broken eggs. A mess. If you are going to charge high prices you better offer a high end experience. No more, no matter how much I don't feel like driving. read more

R I B S That was my first request when we were driving back down from our almost 5 mile hike, of which 1200 ft was vertical. Somehow, munching on sun chips and a handful of M&Ms just did not cut it and by the time the little car had hit the road, my stomach was roaring for some old fashioned meat. This is a nice Safeway tucked away in a delightful area nestled among pines and the fresh air. A smaller parking lot but it is clean and well lit. We ran in so that I could survey the meats on display and was somewhat disappointed that they did not have any beef back ribs in stock. Pork spareribs would take too long so I finally settled on some short ribs instead. Marc picked up some turkey patties and since I had a slight sweet tooth, picked up a pack of powdered donuts. This Safeway also has a good deli as well as a Starbucks (where my Cafe Americano was smooth and expertly made) and it was nice to be surrounded by mostly men in T-shirts and baseball hats who drove big trucks ;) read more

The meat department use to grind up tri tip for me for my burgers and today the guy behind the counter said he isn't allowed to. Had to go to Raleys to have them do it for me. I don't mind even having to pay a little more. The guy said he isn't allowed to cut or grind meat. Just really frustrating read more

My favorite place to buy groceries, except for the bulk stores. Open 24-7. Deli isn't 24-7, but it's very good and they'll make it how you request. Sales are usually pretty good; I can get away with primarily buying on-sale items, as long as I am willing to switch back and forth with brands and such. Their new "Mom to Mom" store brand label makes good baby products and their store brands for most products are usually just as good (for me), as the big brands. I either shop here, or Costco. Parking lot is likely the smallest anywhere for this size of store, but it's always easy to find a spot to park (I love my Mayberry town!) No stress to dress well up here; which is nice for someone like me! read more

The worst Safeway you could ever imagine I would rather drive 30 minutes for another grocery store. There is very few nice people who work there anymore. We walked in late at night with a parking lot unplowed full of snow, to someone polishing the floors and telling us "how dare you people come in here with snow on your shoes" when you're parking lot isn't even plowed what do you expect!!! I had 1 tiny patch of snow on the tip of my boot. To top it all off after right in front of me she said "this is bull****". Not appropriate and rude when I'm just trying to grab 1 thing this late at night. Ever think of maybe plowing your parking lot or just not polishing floors in the middle of a snowstorm? read more

Safeway used to be my go to store... Now if it isn't in a bag a box or the frozen section I usually don't purchase. But today I decided to buy some cherries with my lemonade & fabric softener. I got home only to realize the bagger put my cherries in the bag, then added the other items. Result = smashed cherries. Just another reason not to shop at Safeway.. read more

Donna is an absolute gem of an employee. When I asked where the water fountain is, she took my water bottle. She even filled it with ice! Amazing customer service and friendliness. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and will be stopping at this Safeway in the future on my way to Tahoe. Highly recommend and would also say Donna deserves a raise. read more

Honestly? I didn't spend that much time here to tell whether these peeps are always on their best behavior; but I can tell you that the sandwich I got was ROCKIN' and the employee that made it had a pretty good sense of humor. =] read more

I will just say... Every time I walk into this store between 2-7 pm or 9-11 pm anytime of the day really..... Customer service is horrible. I guess it's more important for the employees to have a conversation with themselves rather then the employee to customer. "Acknowledge your customers Safeway." I always seem to be the first person to say "Hi, hows your day going?" My boyfriend works at Costco, and he simply shook his head and said well I would be fired at my job if I treated any customer the way Pollock Pines Safeway does. Tip: Out of the entire store, Starbucks inside Safeway has the best customer service. read more

The service at this store is always helpful & walks you right to where the item you're looking for is. That's awesome!!! I think I'm gonna grab me a Starbucks coffee since its so conveniently located inside this Safeway Store. read more

Called the bakery and spoke with Adam. He patiently listened to me go on and on about how my sister didn't like frosting but I wanted her to have a birthday cake, etc. He went over all the the frosting options and help me make the best choice. Great call! read more

The Deli. I hate the deli. Always understaffed. And sometimes 3 staff in back and nobody wants to wait on you. They see you and ignore you for 5-10 minutes. Safeway Manager, hire more people and train them to be service-oriented. And make your sandwich shop a separate line! Pleeeeeez. . read more

Having worked in the grocery business I have had the opportunity to evaluate various store operations, and this Safeway ranks among the worst. Customer service is non-existent, during the morning rush only one check stand is open with several clerks at the self-checkout in a gossip circle. Don't even bother going in prior to 10am as it is a mess. Most grocery stores do there stocking during low traffic times or when the store is closed. Not here. For example at 9am on a recent visit, the aisles lined up with stocking carts, empty cardboard stacked on the floor, and don't dare try to get around a clerk stocking. There is an obvious lack of supervision or pride in this store. read more

Smaller store but never too busy and they are friendly. I even got a very friendly checker the day before thanksgiving. He wasn't letting the stress get to him! Which was nice and I left happy. read more

This is the best place, everyone that works there is really super cool and awesome and fun, this is my hometown grocery store I love it when it's normal but having the vacationers makes it nice because it brings in money here, and this is the place they all go so it's not their fault their flatlanders. Lol Love the store love the people I love the products, prices can always be low or wherever you go you're not too bad. Thanks for the amazing service all these years! :) read more

This store obviously needs some competition. Just because you are the only grocery store in town doesn't mean you slack on the quality or service. I hate this store. read more

My only complaint is how long the lines are all the time, I wish they had self check out most times I'm shopping so I can get in and out... other then that it's so convenient to have a grocery store in pollock that carries everything you need! read more

Great service, great staff, awful clientele. Between people running you over in the parking lot, entitled tourists, and anti-COVID-mask extremists, the only decent times to go are either around 6am, or 9pm before closing. read more

We swore to never go back to the one in Placerville and haven't been there in a couple years at least. I went to the one up here just now to pick up just a few things to make a salad tonight. Stand in line for quite awhile and a lady gets in line behind me. A Clerk comes and opens another Check Stand and takes her. Stand in line for awhile more. Finally get up there. The Clerk bags every body's Groceries but mine. The produce seems to be half rotten all the time. What happened to good courteous customer service??? read more

I agree with some of the other reviews, Safeway is overpriced, even with the STUPID CLUB CARD, what a JOKE! If I buy something from there even if it's a couple of dollars, I take it back, even fruit. Don't even mention their crappy flowers that are old, I've finally convinced my husband not to waste our money on those flowers, they wrap up old ones with new ones, then put pretty paper around them to make the bunch look fresh, pretty sneaky. read more

A good pit stop on the drive to Tahoe, we came in for a quick beverage and cash stop - and raved at the store's cleanliness and wonderfully friendly employees! Folks living nearby have a great store for all the grocery needs. :) read more

Geographically convenient, but super expensive. $300 worth of groceries here costs $150 at WalMart or other discount grocers.

I'm not even going to give Safeway a one-star I bought some kale and some lettuce all organic Safeway 2 days ago I cooked the kale last night and found that there was a thin layer of plastic on the Cal and then I looked at the letters and I cracked open one of the leaves and there was plastic just a tiny tiny lining of plastic on the lettuce don't buy your organic produce at Safeway they don't do it themselves they buy it that way and sell it to you the farmers that sell this do this to keep their produce looking fresh read more

Honestly, I wish they would take the Starbucks out of this grocery store and put it next door in the old Taco Bell. It might help. Maybe. This place is always packed with Tahoe goers. Service is slow and prices are high. Hard to swallow as a local with no other options in town. I reserve my trips here for emergencies only. read more

I get breakfast burritos here sometimes and every time I go in there the people behind the deli seem so "put out" to make a burrito. I also think it's nasty that they put the sticker that goes on the burrito on their shirt. All I can think is dry scalp dandruff that landed on their dirty shirt they pulled outta the laundry cause they didn't have time to wash it. read more

Western union and check cashing people are completely incompetent!! No one knows what they are doing wasted a hour of my day, to leave with a un-cashed check.. read more

I generally keep my distance from Safeways due to some issues working there a few years back and knowing what a horrible company it is. However, that said, I love this little store in Pollock. Its a second home location, so I only hit it up when in town. Always friendly, stocked well. Safeway is always higher priced than other stores but occasionally have some deals. Great place to shop if you need a few items. read more

Man, this is ridiculous. I know customer service sucks, but you have to learnthat you gotta suck it up, not make customers like your inconvenience. Please, Jason, this is riduculously rude and lazy!!!! read more

WORST SAFEWAY EVER!! The lines are always obscenely long, the most lanes I've ever seen open is 3!! Some much for their promise of never more than three in line, by the very slim chance you actually wait less than 10 minutes in line the computers are so slow, it takes forever to use your debit card. Let's not forget that every time I go to get something it's sold out or past the expiration date ( make sure you check, especially on dairy items). I'm a local and now drive to the Safeway in Placerville unless it's an emergency read more

One woman in particular at this Safeway always seems to have a problem with my boyfriend and I. She gives me or my boyfriend dirty looks when she sees us. Always has a smug attitude towards us when we very rarely go through her line. She will go from smiling and talking to the customers ahead of us to a complete straight face when it comes our turn to checkout, we will be lucky to even get a smug "hi" from her. Or she will give me dirty looks while my boyfriend pays! Mind you, we don't even know the woman! This woman needs to work on her customer service and needs to put whatever problem she has with us aside! read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! The deli is superb (Although it's not 24 hours, like the rest of the store, but that's small potatoes), and their selection of foods is great. The bakery is fantastic, but the seafood selection is wonderful (Pacific Salmon is a must!). Unless you have a Safeway card, it gets a bit pricey. LOVE THEIR SPARKLING WATER! Pollock Pines doesn't have too much in the way of shopping, so this is a gem to have here. read more

Where do they find some of their help? The last time I went in the checker was too busy talking to the bagger to bother to greet me. The only thing that was said to me was when he handed me my receipt and said "There you go". Not even a thank you, this happens a lot. I guess if your the only supermarket in town you do not have to be friendly. It is really not that hard to say "Hello" and "Thank You" at the very least. read more
