This Safeway is beautifully tucked in this nestled beautiful area We don't get out here much, but we do have family that lives out here and a lot of people come out here to go to Slyde Park or other places to go to the water and every single time I come in here everything in here is so well and neatly kept The aisles are huge, so you don't bump into anybody which I really like. I have been in here to buy stuff. I have been in here to use the restroom. I've never been treated differently. I've always been treated very kind and nice. I'm able to come in here and buy snacks and all the pricing is pretty good. They do have everything that every Safeway has which is really nice. You know what to expect you can get vegetables you can get meat. You can get all kinds of things and just because this is the only Safeway or grocery store in the area they don't have their prices raised in a super huge bracket which a lot of stores would do just because they're the only one in the neighborhood read more

I don't know what's going on but a lot of people have noticed some new people working in the deli. I'm not going into great detail about them but the males were arm wrestling and when they observed customers walk up to the counter they didn't want to help and told people they were going to have to come back because they were busy. One of them was very jittery and animated which portrayed he was on drugs. Safeway, there are better jobs for these type workers than handling people's food. Please make a change. read more

We came here for their Starbucks coffee kiosk. I don't know if there is a seperate check in for starbucks. There was only one person in line infront of us so it went quick. We also went to the deli and got a breakfast burrito. I wished we each got our own it was so good. I belive it was $5.99 for either the sandwich or the burrito. It all came from the deli case. We got the Bacon, Potato, and Egg Burrito. They have eggs precooked in disks and they tear up the backon and add potatoes from the fried chicken section of the deli, and they chop everything up and put it in there oven to melt the cheese and then toast the top. It's definatly hand crafted as they advertize. It's a time consuming process, the making of the burrito and there was a line when we got there. There was a family of two, infront of us getting 3 burritos so there was a wait. Knowing it's hand crafted should take away from your impatience. Embarrassingly rotten produce that just gets left out until it melts into a brown puddle. Rude and unhappy checkers. Always only one checkout line open. No one to ask where anything is and no one has any time to show you either. Overpriced garbage, I would make the drive down to forklift any day where people are friendly and they obviously want to be there and they care about their selection of food. The store looked OK when we first walked in, although the staff was very unprofessional! I was purchasing an expensive bottle of tequila so it was behind the lock doors. A Gentleman came over to unlock the doors and he said he would put it upfront so it was ready when we wanted to check out. The lines were long, and when it was finally our turn I notified the young gentleman clerk that we had a bottle of tequila that was brought to the front. About two minutes, went by before they finally found the bottle. An older lady, who was bringing it towards the register, made a snide remark about the expense of the tequila was only because of the shape of the bottle. Then when the young gentleman was ringing it up, he made a loud announcement with a lot of people in line about "wow this bottle is over $200." if it wasn't for a birthday gift for a friend I would've left the Line and left all the groceries there as the experience was that bad. I simply said to him "very unprofessional to you and the rest of your staff." There was not one of those plastic bags you put your produce in to be found anywhere. I marched up and down the whole section just to make sure. I can deal with throwing an onion or bananas in my cart with no bag, but what about a handful of mushrooms etc? This Safeway is a covid-19 train wreck.the butcher in the meat department is not wearing a face mask. More than half of the customers are not wearing face masks. No one is practicing social distancing. Unmasked people are handling merchandise and putting it back on the counter. of course they do have signs at the entrance saying that you shall not enter the store without a face mask. Review for Deli section only. Stopped by for Starbucks but I remembered how delicious the breakfast sandwiches were here so I stopped by for an order. I had never seen so many Deli helpers before! This store never plans accordingly for seasonal travelers, weather events or peak shopping periods. Meaning: they are consistently out of stock of essential items. You cannot depend on doing weekly shopping here if you meal plan or want to shop for usual items because of the stocking issues here. No, it has nothing to do with supply chain issues. This has been happening since we moved here in 2018. The manager Johnny seems checked out for the most part. Doesn't care one way or the other, Nd he isn't the most approachable person. Admittedly this is a difficult location to manage, but you can tell his heart just is not in it. I placed an online order based on items that were in stock. The most important items I needed were unavailable despite stating they were available online. I called corporate and was told that items are not marked out of stock until they are shopped. How is this efficient and not a waste of my time? This location is good if you need items in a pinch. Otherwise, I would avoid shopping here if you're a local and make your way to Placerville. Plenty of options there without these frustrating issues. read more

However, rules are rules, so why are there so many people that come into this store and allowed to just walk around mask less, hanging it under their face, nose out, dangling off one ear... Where's management for this store? Yea we get it. No one likes masks. Masks suck, but so does getting the 'Rona...suck it up and be less selfish. I would like to thank their highly unskilled and poorly trained staff for multiple unpleasant visits. It seems as if each time "Teresa(Theresa)" the manager is at the front register area the demeanor in the store is very negative and sluggish. On multiple occasions she has been seen verbally assaulting customers in unprofessional ways and when I asked for her name to make a complaint she shoved her breast in my face and expected me to lean into read it. Since my other review in 2017 this store has put in self check registers which has been great. If I just have to run in it's much faster. But today, this is the second time it's happened. The first time during Covid people behind me in the register line come way too close. The first time being Covid was really weird because it was Covid. The second time today, a man stood right behind when I was trying to use my card and had to put my pin in. He was standing where the other cashier would stand but that register was empty. I told him it was getting pretty crowded there at the register and his wife told me she said to go forward. Ummmmm Ok? Then another man with her started mocking me. It would have been nice if the cashier asked the people to move back. But no one helped me. Maybe Safeway could block off empty cash registers so their customers at the register can get the privacy they deserve. read more

I recently moved from Pollock Pines to Brentwood, and had to change from the Safeway pharmacy in Pollock, to the Safeway on Belfour in Brentwood. The entire process was handled expeditiously and courteously! What a truly class act this Safeway pharmacy is down here in Brentwood! I work at this store and feel we have a friendly small town atmosphere that is unique to our little mountain community. There are complainers wherever you go but our staff tries it's very best to give customer service priority. We are not staffed like the big city stores but the local people are very knowledgeable about this area and are happy to chat with you and give you directions or advice on what to see and do. I only go to this Safeway store because it's close to me, I go down the hill to another store for meats and produce especially! So far I've never had a good experience in this Pollock Pines Safeway store. There is a huge turnover in managers and all of them are incompetent! The current lady who is the manager is rude and never seems to get anything done, just always running around the store like she's accomplishing something when in fact "she's not". I've complained to her so many times that there are never any antibacterial hand wipes on entrance to the store. Even during the Covid period, none could be found. I approached her several times on this issue and to no avail. One time she just walked away from me--like I said "rude"! Also and this is so disgusting--there is a butcher in the meat dept. who has a long, bushy unkempt beard and I've seen him leaning over the meat with that bushy, disgusting gross beard while cutting meat. I talked to the meat manager about this and again, to no avail he just stared at me like an idiot. By the way there is another bearded guy who works in the meat dept. and even though his beard is short, still it's not good to have facial hair hanging over the meat (they) are cutting. I worked at Sams Club and all meat dept. workers were required to wear beard guards and hair guards. I don't ever buy my meats at this Safeway for that reason and also because it's not good meat, tough steaks and just not good. Also produce is not good at this store. read more

I stopped in to buy a coffee at Starbuck's and did not feel safe at all. There were SO MANY people walking around maskless, or with their masks pulled down and noses hanging out. If Safeway doesn't care enough about their employees health, or the health of the general public to enforce the mask mandate, I will NOT give them my business. No doubt the most horrible Safeway I have ever been to. Customer service is horrible. Employees are mean and usually in bad moods. Nobody offers help or is especially helpful when they are asked. They also refuse to special order Mountain Dew (which gets bought up as soon as it's stocked, it seems) for my family who buys it regularly, so we have to drive down the mountain just to get Dew (see what I did there? Sorry, I couldn't help myself, but this is serious) which can be a hassle during High tourist times, and a SERIOUS waste of gas! And the price gouging is horrible! Yes, this is a tourist area, but it is also the only local place to get groceries in Pollock Pines, so it gets old. And they don't seem to care when I complain, about any of what I mentioned! Essentially it just seems like they know they are the only place for groceries and know they have the definite tourist business and are more than happy taking advantage of everybody in the process. My family and I were discriminated by a worker at self-checkout named Donna. Keep in mind, we are POC and Donna is white. We needed help with our machine as the light continued to blink asking for help. We were making eye contact with Donna and she simply ignored us. She just continued to look at my family and I. We asked again for help and she finally came around and touched our machine. No acknowledgment or communication from her. She made it seem as if she didn't want to help us. On our way out, Donna was telling every white person to "have a good day." We made eye contact again and nothing from Donna. Donna, do better. It's 2022. Visited there a couple of weeks ago and 10-20% of the customers were not wearing masks. The store is fine but it left me with a skeevy feeling. Wiped down my purchases when I got back to our B&B. I guess when you have the only store for miles around and a significant population like Pollock Pines you can get away with increasing prices. My biggest complaint is one cashier in particular. Her name is Teresa Piper. She frequently bad mouths customers and employees of the store to and in front of customers. This is very unprofessional. I know that many customers have filed complaints concerning Ms. Piper to management, but they refuse to do anything about it. She is likely a union employee and therefore can get away with this type of unprofessional behavior. It still doesn't make it right and should not be tolerated under any circumstances. If I were anyone who either lives in the area or is travelling along highway 50 between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe I would shop either in Placerville or Lake Tahoe. read more

I have been a Safeway shopper for years. I was excited when moving to this area to have a Safeway near my home. Unfortunately, the Pollock Pines Safeway is always understaffed, and in poor condition. The shelf's are empty on a Friday afternoon, the produce is a mess and looks terrible. In fact yesterday there were only two heads of lettuce that were both old and wilted. The store is dirty on the inside and the exterior is in need of repair. It's apparent that the main corporation of Safeway has ignored this store. read more
