At one time this store had been special. Employees said hello every time they saw you or can we help you find anything. Check out staff was personable and friendly. The store had the best produce. Not anymore. Staff barely acknowledges you in the stores and that's only if needed. Produce is flavorless and never ripe. I am currently standing in a line 5 carts deep waiting to checkout. They have called for assistance with "3's a crowd" and no assistance. Recently have only seen 1 bagger to assist. I usually end up bagging a portion of my groceries. I know what you're thinking. Why a review on Safeway? Why, Lindsey!? Well, I'll tell you why. In fact, I will only talk about the reason I'm writing this review. This Safeway has a nut bar. I'm serious...a NUT BAR. I'm talking about a whole round island with rows of nuts -- almonds, walnuts, pecans, I think I saw some candied ones...all fresh nuts that you can purchase by the pound. That's just nuts right? This Safeway is definitely one step above any other Safeway in the area and between things like the nut bar and extensive deli, bakery and meat department...it's a Safeway I choose over all others if I'm in the area. read more

This one star review is mostly directed at the FISH Department who has a sign right above their station that says "Open from 9am to 9pm" which isn't the case if you come at 8:20pm and they are breaking down thier displays so the can LEAVE at exactly 9pm. I was told by (didn't get his name" the FISH guy with glasses they actually start breaking down at 7:30 and was to come before then to actually get some service. Why not change the sign to reflect that so people no not to waste their time, because you have workers their that don't want to do their job. I overheard one of the FISH guys remark to the other thinking he was far enough that I wouldn't hear, "We usually get out of here right by 9pm but 9 times out of 10 there is a customer that comes wanting something after we weighed and bagged everything for the next day. Meaning they can't be bothered to open a bag, weigh me some fish, and send me off happy. I use to work at a restaurant where they closed at 10pm but if a guest came in at 9:59pm we still served them and didn't start closing the kitchen till their order was in. That's class. Safeway. Oh Safeway. I'm here at least once a week, and I always find what I need. I love that I always see the manager about. But there a things about this location that are seriously lacking. 1. The self checkouts were removed. I'm all about giving jobs to real people and not robots, but self checkout was SO nice and quick. Also now when I want to buy something embarrassing I have to make eye contact with a clerk. The management has not found a good balance for staffing the registers in the self-checkout absence - the lines have been sooo long recently. When you just need to buy an onion and a bottle of wine you miss the self check out. Minus one star. 2. There are hardly any 'cart returns' in the parking lot, leading to carts being left all over the place. I see the Safeway kids out there all damn day collecting carts from weird areas of the lot because people leave the carts all over. Add some more little cart returns toward the back and middle of the lot and (maybe at least a few) more people won't leave carts in random places and cause potential accidents. Minus one star. 3. Speaking of accidents: My car was hit in the parking lot last fall. Minor accident, but the guy who hit me was a raging jerk and I didn't get a lot of the information I needed from him to file an insurance claim. I called Safeway about this to see if I could get security footage and they told me they didn't have cameras in that part of the lot. Safeway shares a parking lot with a bank, several popular restaurants, and a random assortment of businesses. You can't always get a spot right near the grocery store. It was inconvenient that they weren't able to capture the accident (which was actually pretty close to the actual grocery store) but the lack of security footage bothers me as a woman who often goes there alone. Should anything ever happen to anyone in that lot, there'd be no security footage, at least from Safeway. Minus one star. So, dear Safeway on Camelback management: please please please add some cameras and cart returns and FOR THE LOVE OF GOD bring back the self checkout! read more

Update on how terrible this delivery service is: Safeway gave me a $75 credit to make up for the fact that I got my last grocery delivery 42 hours late. I used it to place another grocery delivery and, amazingly, I've been waiting an additional 45 minutes for it outside of my 2-hour delivery window and it still hasn't arrived and customer service can't find my driver. This is a great grocery store with a huge selection of items, friendly employees and an awesome wine department. My only complaint- they close all but one check-out lane down in the evening and checkout takes forever unless you go to an express lane. read more

I love love love this Safeway! Much better than the Frys (dirty), Whole Foods (overpriced) and Trader Joes (too small) nearby. The workers Cynthia and Robin are helpful at the checkouts. Linda in the meat department is the best worker I've ever seen; she's always busy stocking fresh meats whenever I visit the store. The Deli people are always helpful; if they're busy, I go shopping and then return later to pick up hot foods to go. My only complaint is I'd like to try the Safeway brand chicken noodle soups, but their soup cans are never in stock. I still give this store and their employees 5 stars for being clean, helpful and friendly. read more

Definitely one of the nicer Safeway grocery stores in the valley. They have awesome machines where you can make your own peanut butter or bottle honey right at the store. This store is always clean and sparkling on the inside. read more

They are under construction so it's a little confusing, especially when the cookies are on the same aisle as the toilet paper (but as my husband commented, maybe the cookies are REALLY good). I bought three Visa gift cards at Safeway a couple of weeks ago and gave them as gifts to my nieces and nephew. Of the three cards that I bought only one of them worked. I retrieved the cards from my nieces and went to Safeway to figure out what was going on. The customer service associate was friendly and made some calls to help solve the puzzle, however, after an hour in the store trying to resolve this issue, Safeway did absolutely nothing to resolve this issue. Safeway is ultimately responsible for the products that they sell in their store. During that hour I spent with the friendly customer service rep and unfriendly manager they had the information regarding what was wrong with the cards. Instead of replacing them and issuing me new ones, they passed the burden onto me. They gave me phone numbers and emails etc... of who I need to contact to resolve the issue. However, as a customer, this is information I should not be concerned about. Safeway should be. They are the ones who sold the cards to me. I've spent three hours on this so far not to mention the embarrassment I faced when my nieces returned the cards to me because they didn't work. Safeway is the nearest grocery store to us but I will undoubtedly drive the extra few miles to Frys to ensure a much better shopping experience and customer service. read more

I have to say, this is probably one of the nicest Safeway stores I have ever been to. One of it's shining features is their deli department. It's a great place to stop for lunch. On the spot, they can make you salad, pizza and sandwiches or you can get one of their well made deli items. Plus, the staff is always really nice here and the store always seem really clean. read more

Make sure you check the expiration dates, many things are expired. Lately they don't have bags and always have to wait to run and get more. Get ready to bag everything yourself since they don't hire many people. They must have had a management change. read more

This Safeway has THE BEST quality hand crafted Sushi but they dont seem to advertise it because I cant even free nd it on their website, but the Sushi is always really fresh and cold, and it is so beautifully presented. Best of all, it is very reasonably priced! You can select your sushi from the display case, or ask to have something specially prepared by the dedicated and very friendly sushi staff. We recently ordered a customized party tray for the holidays and it was so good we should have ordered two! This is a DESTINATION SUSHI in a grocery store ! read more

While I think Safeway is a bit overpriced in comparison to Walmart or Fry's, this location makes the extra price worth it. I come here for lunch regularly and their soups are almost always fresh, their pizza making station is fun and they use only the best ingredients for making sandwiches. I love this place. I go here for everything that I can't pick up in bulk at Costco on Thomas and 44th. Very nice employees, always cheery and ready to help you out with anything. Okay, so if you want savings, go down the street to the Fry's on 16th st and Highland. So why on earth would you review a grocery store? Well, this Safeway has a killer deli and bakery. I am enamored with their bread. Fresh, reasonably priced, and utterly delicious. My favorite is their olive bread. They also used to have this fantastic nut bar where my weekly indulgence was their candied pecans. The nut bar has since closed. RIP nut bar, only the good die young. read more

We usually shop at Walmart for our groceries but decided to try out Safeway on camelback today instead. Bad decision on my part. All was well until we reached the check out desk. I'm not sure if the employee was having a bad day or was just rude in general but it was not appreciated. Awful costumer service. Barely talked to us, made rude faces and rolled her eyes. The meat we were purchasing dropped onto the belt that carries the groceries and she flipped out, as if it was our fault. I like the store, but I will continue to shop at Walmart until Safeway figures out how to treat hard-working customers. read more

I really like this store's bakery, their cakes and breads are fantastic. They have a nice deli/cheese section. They have a pretty good organic section. They also have a good ice cream selection. I find the staff to be very helpful, esp. in produce. The check-out lines are generally very short. On the negative side: I feel some of their food is over-priced, such as Boca products, soy milk and sometimes soda. Also, during happy hour, due to neighboring restaurants, parking can be a hassle. read more

This is first Safeway that I saw with a full wine/alcohol section! I (On the east coast I never saw one) The store is clean and the staff was helpful. I go to this shopping center while running errands and I always find what I need. The bakery items look good and at the times I go, it is never crowded, so I like it. All in all, it is a regular spot for me, so no complaints! read more

Sorry to upset the "rave review" apple cart here, but I think it's time somebody give an honest review of this Safeway location. For starters, the employees at this Safeway are so rude/snobby it's a joke. I've lost count of how many "run-ins" i've had with rude employees here. They don't smile, they don't greet you, they are unwilling to help (as in REAL help where they do it with a smile, not "help" where they're acting like they're "helping" you but in actuality they're only trying to get you out of their way because you're inconveniencing them). I won't even get into addressing the sky high prices as anyone with two eyes & a calculator can see that they overprice EVERYTHING (& rarely ever have any decent sales on the items you purchase most often). But the real fun starts once it's time to checkout. They shut down the self-checkout lanes early, so if you're like most busy people where you're trying to get in/out QUICKLY, good luck as you'll have no choice but to go wait in a regular checkout lane (& yeah you'll be waiting for a while because they usually only have 1-2 registers open MAX [out of the TEN or so that they have in the store]). It's like seriously, you all can't hire more people to run all the registers so that the lines aren't so long??? Funny thing about self-checkout: You get there & if you have the right clerk standing at the self-checkout "assistance" register (or whatever the heck they call it) they'll tackle you, snatch certain items out your hand & start "helping" you to check out before you even have a chance to scan anything.. They act as if they're "helping" you as they sign into 8 million different employee screens at your self-checkout register, when in actually they're only slowing you down (which obviously defeats the entire purpose of why you got in the self-checkout lane to begin with). A few months back I went to the store to purchase a particular brand of milk... There was a sale tag DIRECTLY BELOW where the milk was located, & there was a PLENTIFUL supply of this particular milk located directly behind the one that I grabbed (letting me know that obviously this milk was located exactly where it was supposed to be located). I was on a tight schedule & long story short they told me (at self-checkout/after wasting 10 minutes of my time) that the sale wasn't for that brand of milk but another that was next to it (yet they put the sale tag DIRECTLY BELOW the brand that I grabbed)... Simple mistake right? Fast forward to this evening.. On this evening I approached the clearance rack & noticed some mason jar lids on sale... The label on the actual mason jar lid boxes stated "50% off", it showed the original price as "$5.10" but then the tags on the clearance rack (DIRECTLY BELOW the boxes) stated that they're on sale for "$1.25" each... I grabbed two boxes as $1.25/ea was in my budget. I get to self-checkout, the girl at the register tackles me, snatches one of the boxes out of my hand, does her employee sign-in thing, & once all is said & done the price never changed back to the price that was on the tag DIRECTLY BELOW the boxes... Of course I inquired about this & was at the self-checkout for roughly 5-10 minutes or so (a LONG time when you only have 3 items). In the end, my time was wasted yet again as I had to go back & forth with her & another employee over the fact that the tag on the clearance rack stated that they were on sale for $1.25 each... Turns out that (ONCE AGAIN) the tag on the rack was for another item, yet they deliberately put it DIRECTLY BELOW the item that I grabbed. During her process of "helping" me get the price adjusted to what the sale tag on the rack stated, this employee was condescending, rude/snippy & talked to me like I was 3 years old. This is unacceptable & I was seconds away from telling her to forget it & walking out empty-handed. It's one thing to GENUINELY "help" someone, but when you do it w/ this nasty passive/aggressive type of attitude as if i'm bothering you (as I spend MY money in YOUR store, which allows YOU to make a living), i'd rather help myself & ultimately take my business elsewhere. Here's the thing: Aside from the price (which is huge), every tag in this store has EXTREMELY small lettering in regards to the product/brand it represents, & anybody who is moving fast & not using a microscope to read the actual product/brand lettering on the tag can easily overlook what product/brand that tag actually represents: They know this, & as crazy as it sounds, i'm MORE THAN convinced that they purposely place mismatched tags below certain items in hopes that you'll be like most people where you're rushing, you have a cart/basket full of items & won't notice that the item is (in reality) NOT on sale (when the placement of the tag caused you to believe that it was). Due to the high prices & rude employees, I only purchase 1-3 items from this store on any given week & soon it will be 0. Just growing tired of their scams/rudeness. read more

So being within walking distance to this Safeway, makes this place awesome. Plus this store is always super clean, and smells good. I find that every one that works here seems to be super nice and tries to help out as much as they can. The store has a good selection of beer and the wine and champagne selection is not typical. It's like a mini Total Wine store in here. I would suggest checking it out. There is a starbucks in the store, a redbox, a coinstar, and a gift card exchange. Which is pretty cool within itself, in the last 6 months the store itself has gone thru some renovations the pharmacy area is now much larger and I feel like the have expanded their selection. They also have a small selection of Kosher foods. This place s a little pricey, but you gotta expect that being that there is so much competition in the area from other markets. I still like Fresh and Easy better, but this place is a close second. There is a Blue post office box outside, plenty of parking. And they always seem to have a great floral department.
