Living within walking distance, this is my go to store for most of our family's supplies, but I really enjoying coming here because of the clean floors, well stocked shelves and friendly staff. I highly recommend the flower shop, where I can always find a few helium balloons for my grand daughters! This last Friday we all came together, and I let THEM pick out a color...took awhile, and our host was so gracious and accommodating that I wanted to "tip" her, but this, evidently, is against store policy...oh, well. Yesterday, we ordered from the deli for a few fresh side dishes, and entered into a nice conversation about children. Friendly place, indeed, and never feel unwelcomed when we bring the little ones, or made to feel guilty when they spill or drop their snacks from the cart....OMG, come on kiddos!! We've always been a bit leary, however, with the kiddy carts parked outside, not knowing how clean they are, so we bring our two seat stroller, which works well for us as long as we're not doing a weeks worth of shopping! read more

I'm a newbie to AZ. After hearing another customer inquire about lotto tickets, I decided to buy my first AZ ticket. Josie, the lady at the Customer Service Desk this afternoon made this experience as unenjoyable as possible. Firstly, I had said that I was coming back to buy a ticket, and I had to wait just for any human to man the cash register there for 5 min. The way that the cashier spoke to me was just awful. I started off by telling her that it was my first time buying AZ lotto tickets and I wanted the option where you either fill in the circles/numbers or do "quickpick". She wasn't kind or helpful She spoke very quickly, even telling me ticket information that I clearly said that I didn't want to buy. (I didn't want scratchers.) She was talking to me like she didn't want to help me, and if she didn't, she should have said so! I would have asked for someone else to assist me or taken my business elsewhere. I told her that she was talking too quickly and explained that she was telling me many quickpick options, even explained how I am used to there being a kiosk to see what all the games were. After a long day and week, I didn't deserve feeling stressed out doing something that should have otherwise been "fun". We love this store! Everyone knows us by sight (we've been coming here for about 4 years now) and many of the employees see us as regulars. We've lived in Arcadia for about a decade and a half (between the two of us) and Safeway is literally "right up the street" from our place. The prices are comparable to other stores, the sales are decent, and the selection is good for us as a couple. While the takeover from Albertson's has affected a lot of the normal items, it's really the staff that make this store soar above and beyond any other in this valley. The previous manager, John Cole, moved to another store (we've been told) but he was definitely one of those hands-on type managers and we always saw him working and if we had questions, he could either steer us in the right direction or find an answer for us. We adore Cory, Ashley, Benita, Tim Harris, Vance, and several others. They are some of the most helpful and friendly people ever. They can help you find whatever you need, and if they don't have it they'll do their best to get it, these people should be some of your first contacts. Regardless of the amount of time any of these people have been on their feet doing their job, they are always friendly and super helpful. Ashley is like a little energizer bunny; Cory is very knowledgeable and easy going; Benita is one of the sweetest souls I've ever met; Tim and Vance are a couple of good guys too! If you need something from the grocery store, I would recommend hitting this Safeway on Camelback and 32nd street. Great selection and even better PEOPLE! read more

Their selection is great. Their customer service at checkout is awful. You're made to feel like your a hassle and don't even try to make it better by asking if it's been a busy day you'll never get all your stuff. The Safeway app often does not give you the discounts promised and you then have to go to the service desk and stand in line to get them. One of the cashiers, a guy named Jim, is especially difficult to deal with and will give you no help when the system fails to give you your discounts. He acts like you are a pain for even asking for them. I am ready to shop somewhere else - the Fry's app seems to work every time, and Safeway should be able to find software that works equally well - it is available. In short, I find shopping at this Safeway store to be an unpleasant experience. read more

I came in here for a small personal birthday cake and was not disappointment. The selection was pretty extensive, the prices were reasonable, and the bakery staff was friendly. The store is always very clean and well stocked. Maybe the only issue here is the parking lot; because there are so many other shops around, it can be hard to find a parking spot sometimes. Also, I wish they would bring back the self checkout area. A lot of times I feel like I could be faster at checking myself out than the cashiers and sometimes unprepared customers. read more

Been in the neighborhood for years and always shopped here. Good selection and good staff. Olivia and Eric at customer service desk would make "change" for me most mornings as I head in to work. Tonight our cashier was Massimo. What a character!! Very friendly, efficient and his jokes were great! Here is one, "guy's, did you hear about the fire at the circus?....... it was in-tense". Second best Safeway, in my personal opinion. #1 was in Scottsdale and had a bar in it so... Anyways. Great Safeway, pretty much has anything one would really need, and at decent prices. Sometimes their whole avocado section is harder than my kitchen countertop, but who am I to complain. Everyone is always friendly and helpful. Starbucks inside, per the norm. Favorite grocery store in this area due to its all around quality. Downsides: parking is a mess. They share the parking lot with a lot of other little shops and restaurants, so it can very easily get crowded. While the actual store itself employs awesome human beings, sometimes the patrons are a bit less warm. No big deal though. read more

This is my "home" store- meaning it's the closest Safeway to my house. But I will travel to any other grocery store before I go back to this one. As the years have processes, the grocery store has become worse. The customer service is horrific- especially in the deli. I watched a woman- with food handling gloves on, blow her nose with the gloves on and then go make a sandwich for someone. Without changing the gloves or washing the gloves. I shared this with management in the hopes that it would be corrected, however, the quality of care has remained the same by the employees. The store is filthy and I had difficulties finding numerous items that are standard everyday items. I was told that the store doesn't carry them anymore as they were not popular enough. And the fruits/vegetables are half rotted in the case - being sold. If I could give 0 stars I would. read more

I actually really used to love this Safeway. It is definitely my home store, and I go here a few times a week. In the last two months I have now purchased several different items that were already expired before I bought them. I like coming to this Safeway because it is more upscale, and I am OK paying premium prices. However, when I have chicken (which said purchase by a week after I actually did but smelled horrific when I opened it), dough and yogurt (I purchased 15 of these and realized some of them expired several weeks before I purchased them) that is already expired before I purchase them, much to my surprise when I get home... Bought some salmon and I only wanted half a pound (because I don't like to waste food and know I won't eat a whole pound before it spoils) and the man behind the counter was so rude! He was absolutely exasperated with me for having to go get his knife and cut the salmon into half a pound....? Then when he finally did he slapped the fish on the counter in front of me and walked away. I believe that is his job and what he is there to help customers with and he was very disrespectful and unprofessional. He made me feel extremely uncomfortable as a customer. Went there last night to pick up some stuff with my friend and decided to pay a visit to the deli because I was craving potato wedges. The young lady that help me was super helpful but then one of her associates remove his mask, blew his nose and put his mask on without washing his hands!! That is the most disgusting thing that I've ever seen especially in this time because we don't know who has COVID-19 or not. I asked to speak to a manager but did not get much help from the guy by the name of Roger and then I proceeded to watch said employee help customers with whatever they needed. I feel like a tool reviewing another grocery store. I was MADE to feel like a tool for choosing to grocery shop wearing yoga pants and flip flops instead of $800.00 Louboutins. Realllly.... how do rich ladies #1,2 and 3 not have someone doing the shopping for them at this point? It was interesting if not a bit disturbing to see the new and improved options in facial rejuvenation. (I'm taking notes for the future; thanks ladies) The nut bar won my heart. When you've had fresh ground peanut or almond butter you will never purchase regular (what I will refer to from this point forward as "over the counter PB") again. I've never had anything like it. The wine selection is perfect. I don't feel overwhelmed like I do when shopping at Total Wine yet it's not your typical run of the mill Safeway selection. I live a stone's throw from this Safeway and never end up here for groceries. Based on experience, if I cart my lazy ass down to the Fry's at Thomas and 44th, I end up spending about 1/4 less on my shopping trip than I do at this Safeway. Everything is ridiculously expensive, even after the "club card" savings. I have no idea why. Is it because it's in Arcadia? Is it the added expense of upkeep involved in over-stocking the wine section, or the fancy olive bar, or the gourmand cheese selection? Or maybe it's the added cost of employing cashiers by not installing self-check out lanes. Do I really have to stand in line for ten minutes behind a suburbanite with 2.5 screaming childes just to buy a couple sticks of buttah? And I understand carding, but do you really have to whip out the book to copy down my info and then make me sign my name like three times because my 16-year old self's signature doesn't match my 27 year-old scrawl? Come on, now. That's excessive. I appreciate that you think I'm looking foxy young for my age, but I'd rather hit up the crack pipe-selling liquor paloozas along McDowell than deal with this nonsense. Unless I am in desperate need of an ingredient *stat* or require something special like their amazing Mediterranean olive selection, I'm staying far, far away. read more

My neighborhood grocery store and you can't beat it. It's recently renovated and it seriously HEAVEN for a grocery store. A Starbucks, fountain sodas, a bakery, make-your-own-peanut butter-station (seriously), Sushi Bar plus two of the best kept secrets in the Valley... the sandwich station, pizza bakery and salad bar station. You can get a Build-Your-Own pizza and salad for $4.99. That's UNREAL. And it's GOOD. Both are made to order (typically by Ross or Ricky) and they're generous and tasty. Same goes for the sandwich bar... lots of choices and fresh ingredients. I love (and crave) the California Dreamin' sandwich. Plus, buy 7 get the 8th free. All you have to do is swipe your Safeway card and it keeps track for you. The Safeway "Eating Right" brand is our favorite.. wonderful pita chips and tons of discounted healthy options. I have to start this review with a rather personal comment. Some years ago, this store underwent a major remodel. I was having a thing with one of the individuals who was very influential in how things were going to be done. By the time the thing was over, I had a sneaking suspicion this store was going to be in real trouble. I was right. This store is badly organized. One example of this is the pharmacy area in the center of the store is set at angles completely different from the other two sides of the store. It is like you have a store separated by the 51 freeway in the middle. When you get to the frozen foods, the cases have to wind around the pharmacy set up. Straight lines of freezer cases are not absolutely necessary but do make it easier to figure out what is where. But since the front of the store curves around at an one point, why should they not. It's a large store with a lot of merchandise. This is a real plus if you are willing to search to the far corners for what you need. Tyler H wasn't kidding when he said confusing. Another thing is true concerning what Tyler H said about this store. There are some beautiful specimens to behold as they push their shopping carts. I just don't want them to be ready for social security by the time they find what they need and leave the store! One final thought about this store has to with the pharmacy itself. I found that if I had to describe the attitude of the staff in two words, I would use rude and stupid. Stupid because there is no way people won't spread the word about how rude they tend to be. I've asked other people who agree with me. Maybe it's because they work near the Biltmore, they feel they can act that way? I certainly hope their attitude has changed. It makes me happy to tell you this is not the attutude of the rest of the staff. Usually they are friendly and ready to help. I originally gave this store 3 stars but changed it to 2. Any store I avoid shopping at unless absolutely necessary seems deserving of less than a three. read more

The people here are always nice and try to be helpful, but the story inventory of brand names has declined significantly in the past year. Slowly but surely, the selection for brand names in every category has decreased in favor of expanding the number of the brand's own Signature Select items. Generally speaking, the Signature Select brand purports to be equal to name brands, but is often inferior in both quality and especially taste. Like many shoppers, I like certain name brands for various products, and I don't appreciate taking away my choices in order to sell their own brand. Although this store is the most convenient to us, we will frequent other stores that permit wide and varied choice. read more

The deli sandwiches are outstanding! The pizza area that has been removed was outstanding! Overall the quality of the store is outstanding. Beware of expired milk, diary, and baby food products on the shelf. Not always a problem, but alway check the expiration date. This Safeway has a couple of features that I haven't see in any other Safeway. In a corner by the Starbucks Cafe there is a sofa group where you can sit and watch TV while your fiancée is getting her hair done at the Dry Bar next door. They also have a wine cellar with more exclusive wines and wines that you won't find at other Safeway stores. read more

This Safeway location could benefit by having additional cash registers open early in the morning. More than a few times post-gym, I have felt bad with my usual grocery load while business folks are lined up with two items for lunch (yes I let people go in front of me! ) But, if I'm already being helped and in the middle of a transaction, I feel that people get annoyed. Almost every time I've been here between 6:45-7:30 AM on a weekday, there is ONE cash register open and multiple people checking out. It's frustrating. The location and service (besides the one cashier) are good, and there's a decent sized Starbucks inside as well! That's nice! The store is clean and organized. I have been approached by individuals in the parking lot requesting money /groceries, which surprised me at this location. read more

They've added freshly made sushi, and it's pretty good too. It's clean, good sized and they have a nice deli section. Their wine section is respectable enough, and I got a good bottle of Pinot Noir at a good price with my Safeway Club card. This is one of my favorite Safeway locations anywhere in the Valley or anywhere in Arizona for that matter. I had a particularly good experience here today that I wanted to share. John manages the Liquor Department and my boyfriend and I went to get a bottle of Patron Silver so John came to help us. Not only did he unlock the cabinet but he explained to us that with the current sale not only would we get about $20 off our purchase but if we bought any combination of 6 bottles of any other wine or liquor we would get the lower price. We had NO idea you could combine the bottles of alcohol for a lower price! Even though we frequent this location, we also didn't realize the cellar had high dollar wine & liquor including Absinthe which was also on sale and part of the mix and match sale! This particular Safeway has one of the largest wine and liquor selections in the Valley and also has some of the best prices because of it's location. John answered every question we had including what types of alcohol are best mixed together and how different types of liquor and wines are made. His knowledge was incredible and he treated every customer he saw with a very pleasant and professional demeanor. He made us feel like celebrities! I have always preferred this Safeway over any other I have ever visited but now, after our experience with John and his help showing us how to really save when we shop, this Safeway has two very dedicated customers! read more

So, I've never reviewed a grocery store, but this place was AMAZINGGGGG. As a guest from out of town, I was stalking up on snacks for my visit to Phoenix, and I found myself pleasantly surprised in Safeway. My first stop, the deli counter. I was able to try samples of several salads and deli cheeses and the customer service was excellent. Around the corner was the cheese guy, tried a few gourmet cheeses and ended up spending $15 on cheese/spread/crackers. This is my favorite Safeway location. The employees are always very nice, the store is super clean and intuitively organized, and if there are more than three people in the register line, they open another one! The Starbucks area has plenty of places to sit and they move quickly in the morning. They also have a great Safeway pharmacy and a Sonora Quest Laboratory(but you have to go off hours to Sonora Quest or you wait forever, as there is only one person manning the shop). This is a "flagship" Safeway. It has gourmet foods and an excellent wine and liquor selection. A couple of times a year they have A huge sale on all of their wine and liquor. If you buy six or more, they give you a huge discount, and if you use your Safeway card, you get an additional 10% off. The manager of the wine department is John. He is an absolute pro and has help fill my wine cellar. I highly recommend that you visit the Safeway if you are having to cater any type of event. I really love this store they have the best stuff put out and all of their employees are so nice and helpful except for the woman that runs the sushi area. I know she is the only worker that does sushi because when my friend had asked for a bit of help she rudely said she only does sushi and to not ask her for help. I understand if she didn't know certain things because she's only doing one part but there's another woman that works there that is extremely helpful and does it all, that worker could have just said I can't help in a nicer way. Also recently she had been extremely rude to me after I asked for a couple extra soy sauce packets and told me to not ask for any ever again. She told me "I'm not supposed to support your whole work with my soy sauce" because I had mentioned I worked next door to the Safeway. Super rude and unprofessional she is just a horribly angry person and I didn't think asking for a couple extra packets would be a big deal as other Safeways generally have them sitting out next to the sushi for people to take but it seems as if she keeps them behind her counter to not offer it to customers. My other coworkers have asked her for sauce and she scoffs and gets visually upset. Everyone else working in the food department is great but that sushi worker is the worst!! read more

I come in everyday for lunch and most of the workers are very friendly. I also purchase items for work including gift cards often. Today a cashier who clearly did not want to be at work told me I wasn't able to purchase any with a corporate card I am authorized on. I offered to show proof of the request to purchase the cards and the manager would not even look. Poorly managed and disrespectful to a literal daily customer. read more

This store is extra clean, well managed and modern looking. I've been a customer for 3 years. They have the best looking and best quality of produce in town but one orange might cost $1.99. I bring salads to work for lunch during the week because I save money and am usually at my desk. I shopped at Safeway in Scottsdale on Jan 15th and picked up 4 salads. 3 of the 4 had expiration dates of Jan 10th and were completely inedible. This is the 2nd time this has happened to me at this store. The salads came from the deli section of the store. Just FYI check your dates on deli items people! read more
