I have visited this store five times, sometimes 8am in a weekday, sometimes 8pm on a weekend, this place never failed to have the longest line (you read it right line, not lines) there will be a line of 20 or so customers lined up with only one register open and no self checkout ...this place already has a smaller selections than the nob hills and price 15 percent higher, why can't it just increase the wage and hire more cashiers is the greatest mystery read more

What a joke this place is. Regardless of what time you come, there are lines that spill deep into the aisles and only 2 of the 10 registers are available. I've stopped going and take an additional 10 minutes to drive over to the Whole Foods. read more

Definitely the best Safeway in the area. This one is much bigger and has more products than the one on California and San Antonio, and the one in Palo Alto. Their produce is always so fresh and their shelves are always kept full of stock. Some of the cashiers could be more friendly but overall it's a great place to get all your groceries. One thing though, try and avoid going on Sundays-it's so crowded on Sundays. read more

It seems like the staff are trying, but the checkout lines look like Disneyland -- all the way down the isle in the evenings and weekends. Expect to find 10 to 15 people in front of you, and others trying to navigate their carts around the lines that block the isles. It reminds me of my mental picture of the line leading to the gates of Hell in Dante's Inferno. Management obviously doesn't care, and the cashiers must endure an endless stream of people made surly by standing for 15 minutes or more in line. By treating customers this way, Safeway is a suicidal corporation! UPDATE, ONE YEAR LATER: Nothing's changed. In the evenings, it's common to see only two check lines in operation, and over a dozen customers in each of those two lines. There are often carts full of groceries near the checkouts that were abandoned by exasperated customers, with frozen items thawing in the carts - that undoubtedly get "restocked" hours later back on the shelves (food poisoning, anyone?). The poor checkers look besieged and explain the Management is under-staffing the checkout lines. Management there must be morons! I'm surprised how docile some of the customers are - I'm hopping mad from standing in line 20 to 30 minutes. read more

To echo a review below, every time I visit this location I almost instantly regret it. The reason for the low rating is the consistently long lines at this location. I've visited this location for about two years now, and at every visit there are almost never more than three registers open. The most I've seen is four open at one time. Lines spill into the aisles, making it difficult for shoppers to move around the store. This is a constant problem at the express lane (15 items or fewer), which is always about 5 customers deep, minimum. It appears that management of this store does not care about the problem as it's been this way for years, according to previous reviews. I try my best to avoid this store at all costs, since the drive to Trader Joe's, which is farther away, usually takes about just as long as it would to wait in line here. Note that besides the line/understaffing problem, this location is above average in terms of Safeways. It's usually pristinely clean. read more

They have a good selection of organic produce for a Safeway, and the checkers are very nice. I wish they had smaller carts. All the carts are those huge carts that make it harder to navigate the store. Would like them to get some smaller cart options like the newer Safeways have. I had a BEST experience with Cece who was the pharmacist that was handling my son's prescription Friday evening. I had 3 failed attempts at other pharmacies trying to fill all his prescriptions. Cece went over and beyond her job to make the experience so much more pleasant. She even called that night to update me on all his medications being processed. Kudos to people like Cece to make someone's stressful day a little nicer. I definitely will be taking my prescriptions back to Safeway in the future. read more

I avoid going to this Safeway whenever possible because there is a cashier there who has a terrible attitude and I actually don't go there because I don't want to run into her. She is so nasty. I complained about a year ago and they did not seem to do anything to fix it. The cashier still has the same attitude and still disheveled, with pinkish hair, nose rings and the same bad attitude. It reflects poorly on the store, she looks disheveled and you can tell that she doesn't have herself together. I was shopping today and unable to find two basic grocery items that I need- decent avocados and zucchini. Excellent fresh young zucchini is provided at the Safeway at 2580 California Street at San Antonio Road. I look forward to the new bigger store they will be building at the new location and I will continue to shop there during construction. I absolutely love this Safeway. Although the workers can seem unprofessional at times, they don't act like robots as other employees would. They are more natural and down-to-earth which I actually prefer. The prices of the items are wonderful with the Safeway club card. If you don't already have one, I suggest signing up. Jose is my favorite produce worker. He's really funny and always jokes around but still gets the job done. Mimi is really nice and friendly as well, and whenever I have questions about prices or quality, she's right there to answer any questions. One of the ladies in floral named Nathalie is extremely nice as well as informative. She always helps me when I need it and has all the answers to my questions while keeping a smile on her face. Of the checkers, if you're looking to save extra money, Dawn is the person to go to. I'm not sure if she's supposed to or not, but she always lets me in on the best deals and helps me with my coupons. One of the baggers named Ashley B. was also very friendly. I know it's policy to ask for help out to my car but she doesn't seem fake when she asks. Everything is naturally polite. She's my favorite bagger of the group. I always go to say hi to her. Definitely the friendliest group of people to shop with. I go there several times a week, sometimes just to stop by and catch up on things. If you're more of the down-to-earth kind of shopper rather than following the typical routines, head to this store. They know exactly how to treat you. read more

I decided to bake cookies this past weekend and needed a couple ingredients. Since this location was the closet to where I work, I dropped by this place, right before my shift started. It was around 6:50am. By the time I was ready to pay, the line was long and there was only one cashier. While waiting in line, this lady cut in front of me (not 100% sure). I stood on the side of the line and this lady came out from a different side and the customer in front of me, didn't say anything; therefore, I wasn't sure where the line ended. To make matters worst, she had a cart full of products. I only had 2 small items and she wouldn't let me go first. Who shops for groceries at 6am in the morning? Anyways, I was really annoyed and wanted to leave but since I've already waited so long, I decided to wait a little more. During this time, I saw another Safeway employee, just walking pass us. Safeway needs to do a better job and getting another employee behind the cashier or open up a self-checkout station. The line was literally down the aisle and then some. read more

I continue to choose this Safeway when I am in need of special help with important celebrations at our agency. The cakes that this bakery makes are AMAZING!! Everyone likes the cakes that they make so much that we only buy our cakes here :) The bakery staff always goes out of their way to decorate their cakes extra specially and they always exceed our expectations! Brandon, the manager at this store is very customer service oriented. He works hard to make certain that customers needs are being met and ensures that the store is immaculately clean. He is civic minded and truly is invested in and cares about every customer experience. I highly recommend that you do your shopping (and purchase your yummy cakes) at this Shoreline Safeway. It's a Safeway, so you know what to expect: a store carrying the standard set of major brands of grocery items. And prices are usually pretty good. The problem with this place is they have unreasonably long checkout lines every time I drop in to get something. They never staff enough people, and at peak times, most checkout lanes will be closed, meaning the couple of lanes that are open will have crazy long lines. Express lanes are no longer express when there's 10+ people waiting. read more

It's quite unreasonably expensive for a grocery store. It's my alternative to when I miss the commissary. I only buy a few things when I come here and they are only for emergencies. This Safeway has really friendly employees. I've been seeing the same cashiers for years now. However, whether you go during a weekday or shop here on the weekend, the lines are very long. I live walking distance to this supermarket, but it's gotten to the point where I'd rather drive to a different store to have a better and faster experience. I give more stars for the store over the Safeway. Usually, when I go to this store, it's because my friend Ellen around the corner is cooking something and we need to bring some item. It's extremely convenient to just walk there. The place is fine for picking up the usual items-paper towels,cheese, wine, bread, etc. Not so good for the floral department- I walked out and left the item on the counter that time. It didn't help that the smug jerk in front of me in line said: "No, I won't let you go ahead" . I guess my body language was too telling- I gave off the vibe that I was in a hurry, antsy, and the cashier was slower than a postal employee in processing a money order transaction. On my last visit on Sept. 6th, checkout was fine. I was with my friend purchasing food for her dinner party. I was about to go to the Starbucks and get an Iced Latte. After standing a few moments waiting, we left. The barista was having some confusion in making a drink and doing a gift card purchase. My friend told me she will not go to that Starbucks when this certain barista is on duty because this person's nails are never clean and there seems to always be some drama going on. Hands down - The absolute worst customer service/shopping experience I have had to date. I spend over $700 here weekly for grocery delivery, yet that does not seem to matter to them one bit. It is the most frustrating thing in the world when you can't even get anyone to return your call after countless calls and managers saying 'you have my word' i will call you back and let you know when your order will be delivered. Hate Safeway. I wish for the days when Albertson's was the normal grocery store. I mean, it has the basics. But for some of the things i get all the time, I have to cart my bum farther away to go to Lucky or Nob Hill. And either a Famer's Market or produce market for fruit and veggies. Becasue those things are gross at Safeway. Their counterpart in Souther California, Von's, is really decent. Strange... But i recently notice that they made cupcakes! And brownies and cake pops in their bakery. They are not half bad. A bit dry, but they try to make them special (with brownie crumbles on top, PB frosting, mint Oreo). Also, donuts are pretty good and they have pastries like cheese danish. So, that part isn't bad. read more

Safeway has a good bakery department. Cheap and made fresh everyday. My favorite is the bagel - soft, chewy, satisfying, always made with generous amount of blue berries / nuts & seeds / cheese. The donuts and muffins are generally too sweet and I can only have 1 or 2 before getting a tooth ache. The Safeway store brand products are also pretty good. Ever since Oroweat cut corners by only having nuts and seeds where it's visible (on top), I'd been buying Safeway bread regularly. Also love that Ice Cream and Popsicles are almost always on sale. Although I usually don't buy produce and meat from Safeway, I appreciate that most every Safeway store is open 24/7 except on Thanksgiving night. read more
