I use online order/pick-up and want to specifically review their pick up department. It has greatly improved over the last six months. The new manager is wonderful and has the department staffed well. The employees have been friendly, customer service oriented and just an overall joy to deal with. They online orders are almost always on time or early even! The wait time in the vehicle is not long at all, especially if you use the app to notify them that you're on the way. The Safeway in Mount Vernon has a wonderful floral department. My 84-year-old mom gets flowers for my father's grave every Thursday, and she likes the beautiful bouquets that Brandi makes for her. Horrible experience with Lisa today in self checkout. Customer service is lacking clearly after accusing me of stealing then trying to scan stuff I already had scan. I had to point it out to her twice to get her remove. She was VERY disrespectful and rude. Wouldn't even let me talk to her. If you guys don't want people stealing open all the fucking lanes so their isn't a line going down the entire aisle cause no mother is gonna wanna sit there with a crying baby who's hungry and a rambunctious 3 year old for 20 mins to scan food, ridiculous! Then only to come out of the store get both my kids loaded up to find out my toddlers good 2 grow lid that's was sealed and mold all in it! Thankfully they let me exchange it without problem. I shopped at Safeway tonight and was so impressed by the staff. Olivia and Lucas were wonderful. They were very friendly and helpful. A customer behind me in line was in a foul mood and complained that she didn't like that the checker was talking to me. Olivia and Lucas handled the situation professionally and with grace. I use the mobile App for pick up. I used to use WM but Safeway is so much better! My orders are always ready on time if not early and never anything out of stock. It's so easy to clip coupons that apply automatically. With the sales it's just as affordable than WM. read more

Their front end is the worst in the business. I spent 15 years in the grocery business and we made every effort to get our customers out the door as quickly as possible. Safeway wants you to use the self checkout to save on payroll. What's next, have the customers unload freight? I haven't been in a Safeway in years. I needed my Covid Booster and Safeway was offering them, I made my appointment and got in at a perfect time for me. I could tell the pharmacy was being pushed to the limit, which is often the case with pharmacies, that has to be one of the most stressful jobs, it seems like they are always running full throttle. The pharmacist who gave me my shot wasn't the most sociable, but hey I barely felt my shot so that was okay, I was in and out of there faster than it takes me to fill my car up with gas at the mini mart. I would highly recommend the Safeway Pharmacy for your immunizations, they will be the first I call the next time I need one. read more

This Safeway has a Starbucks (reason for my stop in) the Starbucks lady was a bit cold and rude. We walked to the Deli and Sheree helped us. It was night and day between the two encounters. Sheree was very sweet and helpful. She made out sandwiches and they tasted amazing. The experience made it even better. We need more people like Sheree. Probably one of the worst experiences I had shopping at this Safeway. I am shopping and normally I put the food I picked out in my own bags I bring. I go to self check out and going through each bag. Don't remember this ladies name but is eyeing me like a hawk. I get to one item we're I scanned the wrong barcode and that was her opportunity to question me. She starts asking me which bags I have already scanned and said that a lot of the items I scanned haven't went through and saying the "camera" isn't picking up. I told her I needed to scan two more bags but she proceeds to check every item and see if I did or didn't scan and scan the food for me. I know how to scan and I was minding my business, I didn't need any help. I don't want to put this as a racial issue but I was the only college student that was African American in that store. I spent half a day creating artwork in the likeness of some copyrighted imagery, using a different color pallette than said copyright, and these guys wasted my time not even trying to work with it. Went in for some produce and some dairy items. Spent almost an hour trying to find the few things I needed, never did find the cheese section, it's not over by the milk or eggs. Produce section had so much spoiled produce it was gross and prices were more than double similar grocery stores in town ($8 for a single cantaloupe, co-op had organic ones for cheaper). Had to finally ask someone where the strawberries were after I couldn't find them in 10+ mins, they were behind a balloon display, in the flower section?? Mainly went there in the first place because the weekly ad listed strawberries and watermelon on sale, neither had the sale price listed in store so had to ask at checkout to make sure it was correct. Also they only had 4-5 watermelons in stock and the ad just started today, when I asked a produce clerk if they knew if these were the ones on sale she didn't know, asked if they were getting more because there were so few and they looked old (and several had moldy spots..) she didn't know. Guy at check out couldn't tell me if they still took WIC and was just generally grumpy (hopefully he was just having an off day). Will not be going there again not even just for one thing. Oh yea there's also giant potholes in the parking lot that will take out a small car if you aren't super careful. read more

I usually do not give feedback but I had a GREAT experience at the store and wanted to make sure that was told. While checking out, my boyfriend accidentally knocked a bottle out of our cart. It fell and spilled red liquid everywhere, cutting my toe open in the process. Our cashier Misty and another young man (wish I had gotten his name) were so kind and helpful. They cleaned the whole mess up, broken glass and all without showing any signs of annoyance or unhappiness. Misty made sure that I had a band aid and offered for me to sit down multiple times. I just moved to Mt Vernon and don't usually shop at Safeway but thanks to Misty I will definitely be back :) The store itself is clean, organized, has a Starbucks and a Jamba Juice! Woohoo. This is now our go-to place for small grocery purchases, especially on Fridays, when they offer their $5 Friday deals. Great for meat items, especially. My only frustration is the new mobile application, which forces you to move sale items onto your "club card" for you to get "club" prices. This can be an onerous process. For example, you might get an email for $3 off when you spend $20, but the only way that's gonna actually occur is for you to find and activate the offer within the app. Last week, I couldn't even get people who worked there to show me how. Hopefully, enough people will complain that this will become easier. But even if it doesn't, I will still probably be spending some of my money here. read more

I normally don't write negative reviews, but sometimes you just have to get down and do it. Safeway's Pharmacy is poorly run. There are long lines that move slowly and nowhere for handicapped people to sit while waiting in line. They have 2 register positions but never seem to staff both registers at the same. I went back today, same staffing shortage and long line. They have no tolerance for being called out on it. I was stuck in a line so long that I decided to call the stores customer service line and suggest that they do something about me getting somebody "off their dead ass" and get us some help and seating. The thin skinned insecure pharmacy manager immediately walked out and asked me where I would like her to transfer my perscription. That was her introduction to me, no hello, no what can I do for you, no offer of handicapped seating, nothing. I hadn't said a word to her, she was just irritated that I called her store to call out their organizational inadequacys. She told me to leave the pharmacy for cursing. I never raised my voice and suggested that since she wasn' a party to my phone call, she couldn't possibly be offended. Then she retreated to the position that I was creating a disturbance. Imagine that, me, standing there all by myself, no drum, no tambourine, no signs, no MAGA hat. Just her running me off for having the unmitigated gall to call out a low performing staff that she supervised to her superiors...... So I reviewed here before and honestly put a 5 star review because I have always enjoyed going to safeway to shop and most of the employees here are very nice but honestly the other day I came here to shop with my fiance things changed. So we went into the store to shop and noticed some people in the store shopping without masks. I knew businesses in Washington would need to turn people away going in stores without masks. My fiance mentioned to a co-worker there was people in the store shopping without masks and he said speak to a manager if you like he spoke to 2 managers that said it really wasn't any of there problems. I couldn't believe this! I feel like this is why Washington cases are going up because no one listens. All in all though none of the management enforced the mask rule and we ended up just shopping somewhere else . Just a warning if you want to shop here make sure people are in masks and just know the store managers are slacking. read more

Good luck trying to fill a C-Class at this gas station. The fancy pumps have this weird rubber gasket that kept tripping the pump to stop because it wouldn't make a proper vapour seal. I would have been there for 20 minutes dribbling gas into the car since I couldn't run it full speed. The attendant said he's had the same problem with a different vehicle. I had to leave and find another gas station. Very irritating. read more

Great grocery store with amazing staff! Joel is always excited to see his regular customers and will stop what he's doing to make sure you're greeted. Every department from produce to the bakery, pharmacy and deli all have great workers who will go out of their way to make your shopping experience a great one. The store itself is perfectly fine, no gripes there overall...but their gas station is mediocre. Their card reader reads my club card just fine during the day, but at night I consistently get a "invalid club card" message at the pump. I refuse to fuel up there at night and pay the extra few cents, because at today's prices ($3.92 a gallon at the time of writing), every cent counts, especially seeing as I don't anticipate the government putting a stop to their gouging of our finances anytime ever! Fix the card reader to recognize valid cards at ALL hours of the day, and it'll bump you up a star if not two! read more

Worst ever experience at the Mount Vernon Safeway, College Way location. I collected my medications from the pharmacy and grabbed a bag of Funyuns and headed for the self checkout. I have medical conditions that prevent me from wearing a mask so I use self checkout to prevent being close in proximity to customers. I was approached at the register by a young employee who offered me a mask. When I told him that I was medically exempt, he stated that I needed to be specific. I told him that it was illegal for him to ask that of me and he insisted that if I was not more specific that he would refuse service to me. This infuriated me as I have been frequenting this location for over 20 years and I did give him a few choice words. I finished my transaction and as I was going to leave he said "I hope I never see you again". Then the "supervisor", a short older, kind of pudgy man with glasses showed up and said that he was told that I cussed his employee out and that if I did not leave the store he would call the police. I tried to explain the "real" situation and he called the police without even discussing the situation with me. So much for customer service at this location. All that and a bag of chips I guess. Be warned, this place is not about customer service. Corporate Office has been notified. read more

Twice in one month I have received partial prescriptions and been asked to come back to the pharmacy multiple times even though I was told the prescription was ready. The first time I went through this scenario I received a partial prescription for 3 days and then was told to pick up the rest of the prescription on Monday. This was after telling me that they had my prescription ready. When I eventually picked the prescription up and after returning home I realized that I had received a full prescription and not just a partial. The second time I was told the prescription was ready again and when I approached the counter the front gal said, Oh we don't have enough to fill the prescription but here's enough for three days but you need to come back on Monday for the rest. I returned on Monday and once again was told that they still don't have enough to fill the prescription. Once again I'm told to come back on Tuesday. After picking up the prescription, once again I realized when I brought the prescription home that they didn't just fill the partial remaining prescription but filled it with full prescription. This is a very poor way to operate a pharmacy and also a very dangerous way as they are over filling the prescriptions. It is an accident waiting to happen. I will not be returning to this pharmacy as they do not seem to care even when called to let them know of this situation. Their response is that there is no note in the computer that says that I only received a partial prescription and that is why I received a full prescription. VERY POOR TRAINING AND STANDARDIZATION OF PROTOCOL. I will also be writing to Safeway management. read more

Good clean store. Great selection and prices. Solid return policy, fair and without arguments. Deli, pharmacy, fantastic bakery, the morning bagels are great 6AM? The Safeway app is a must have for your phone as it saves $$ and offers deals tailored to your shopping history. But, way too few staff in ALL departments especially the deli. Long lines for checkout. Don't buy ice cream during peak hours, it could melt waiting to be paid for. checkout.If they had dedication to providing enough proper help as they do to providing great products this would be a top notch place to shop. So I bought some Cesar Home Delight dog food which was advertised as $1.29 with club price as $.99. The non-club price is $.50 higher than the Walmart price of $.82. Even the Safeway club price is $.17 more than Walmart price. So......what is the member price anyway. If you're looking for a special occasion cake, this is not the place to go. We paid nearly $80 for three cakes for all but one to be screwed up. The theme was a photo bubble guppies cake for our sons first birthday. They tried three times to get it right but still failed to do so. On the third try we took the cake as is due to time limit for the party. The employees in the bakery huffed and puffed and told us that our order was so complicated. The hospitality that we were given was not nice at all. We called over a supervisor and we were given the same attitude by her as well. I was actually already that they would put something in the cake to harm us because of the attitude we were given. An employee said she wasn't going to remake the cake and then we called a supervisors over and Bill was very nice to us and sensitive about the issues we were having. We will never be coming back to this bakery for any special occasion needs. As you can see our cake was done three times and this is what we got stuck with. Literally looks like a piece of paper ontop. It's like Safeway's saying fuck you, this is your cake we did for the third time. $80 later, not worth the money nor the hassle. read more
