This review is referring to PHARMACY ONLY as I shop for groceries here weekly and am always pleased with selection and friendly staff. I have been using this pharmacy for about 7 years and service was superb under Brandon. In the past year lines have gotten much longer and it seems the staff turnover at this location is a big problem. My experience over the last 2 days not only made me decide to take my business elsewhere but I was invited to go use a different pharmacy twice by a rude young man that had nothing to do with my transaction. On 5/12 my young daughter had an operation and her doctor called in 2 different pain medications before 4pm and expedited them as she would need them for after surgery. I went to the pharmacy at 6pm and the pharmacy tech could see them expedited in the computer but they had not started filling them yet. I asked how long it would take and she said 30-40 minutes. Not wanting to leave my daughter again without the guarantee that her meds were ready I asked for a text when they were finished which is a regular service they provide and the tech said she already told me 30-40 minutes. I explained why I was hoping for a text and after rolling her eyes at me she called the pharmacist over to help her with my request. The pharmacist was very friendly and set the service up for me. I returned home to care for my daughter and checked my phone frequently expecting the text that her meds were ready. At 7:59 I still had nothing so I called the pharmacy and learned they closed at 8pm. As any reasonable person could imagine my daughter had a pretty rough night not having her meds to manage her pain after surgery. I finally got the text that her meds were ready at 9:24 the next morning and immediately drove to the pharmacy. Upon arrival I waited in line for 6 people in front of me and when it was my turn I learned they did not have my daughter's insurance information so I handed them her insurance card. Ana was not able to pull her insurance up and asked me many questions about who the subscriber was, what my daughter's relationship to the subscriber was, who the other people on the card were and explained that every person on the card holds a numerical position. Ultimately she could not figure out how to input the information from the card and asked for the assistance from the same pharmacist that helped with the text message issue the night before. She seemed a little surprised to see me and I explained to her that I just received the text that the medication was ready at 9:24am and that she had gone all night after surgery with no pain meds. She told me that the medication was ready the night before and they even stayed late. I told her I had no way of knowing that. I told her I called at 7:59 and nobody answered the phone and I showed her the text from 9:24am and she said that they have no control over the text notifications. The pharmacist was unable to help and walked away. I asked if I could please just pay cash for the medication and asked Ana if she saw the baby asprin I had put on the counter and she very rudely said she had not and that she was busy. At this point I was so frustrated I looked over to my mom and quietly said I cannot believe how incompetent this pharmacy has become as I had been standing in this pharmacy for over 30 minutes trying to get a medication for my child that supposedly was ready the night before. Ana very loudly said ma'am you don't need to say that. I told her I just want to get the medication and go home and told her I don't know what the problem was and she yelled that it was my fault because I didn't bring her the correct information. I replied that I brought her the insurance card and now I have asked to pay cash. This is when the young man yelled at me that I started this and I need to take my business to a different pharmacy. The pharmacist came back up at this point and said this is not my fault. I told her Ana just said that it was to which Ana denied and my mom chimed in that she definitely did say that. At this point the young man yelled at me again that I need to go to a different pharmacy. I told them to please just give me the medication that I had already paid for at this point and I will not return. The pharmacist apologized again, reminded me that they did stay late the night before and walked away. Ana explained she had to log in my information as I was the one picking up a narcotic then I could have the medication and leave. I told her I understood as I stood there incredibly embarrassed and frustrated and honestly in shock at how these professionals handled what should have been a simple filling of a medication. As I was invited to not return, this will be my last visit to this location. I hope management can go back and pull the camera footage from 5/12 and 5/13 and use my experience as a learning opportunity. This used to be a well ran pharmacy with knowledgable, reliable and friendly staff. Sad. read more

Nice and clean store. Easy in and out, especially for my senior mom. I went in this afternoon to buy the Seattle Times and the Skagit Herald. The Herald was Tuesdays edition and today is Thursday. This happens quite often, so I stand there and check the dates. I scanned it too quickly and ended up with a newspaper that I bought and read two days ago. This is a problem at the Burlington store as well, and the employees are aware of it. They are aware because I have went back right away and got a refund. If there was an easier place to buy the papers we would do so. If you are reading this Haggen, please discard old papers or clearly mark the stack as being one or two days old. read more

I would like to report an incident involving Shelby, a pharmacy technician, due to what I felt was unprofessional and discourteous treatment. After waiting in line for approximately 40 minutes, I finally reached the counter. Instead of assisting me, Shelby told me to move aside and made a hand gesture that felt dismissive, as though she was shooing me away. She then began helping another customer. That customer kindly pointed out that I had been waiting longer and offered for me to be helped first, but Shelby ignored the suggestion and proceeded to assist yet another customer. After beginning to help the next customer and collecting her personal information, Shelby looked at me and told me that I would need to return to the back of the line due to HIPAA concerns. The customer she was assisting even apologized to me and acknowledged that I had been ahead of her in line. Despite this, Shelby did not offer any explanation for the situation, apologize for the inconvenience, or attempt to address my concerns. I understand that pharmacy staff must follow privacy regulations and that pharmacies can be very busy. However, I felt that I was treated disrespectfully throughout this interaction. The dismissive gesture, being passed over multiple times despite waiting patiently, and the lack of communication or apology left me feeling frustrated and unwelcome. I am bringing this matter to your attention because I believe customers should be treated with professionalism, courtesy, and respect, even when procedures or privacy requirements must be followed. read more

The hours here are unbeatable this is as close to Whole Foods as you can get in Skagit Valley. I love the late and early hours as well as the friendly service - my favorite clerk is Emma! She always smiles and is so friendly, helpful, and fast on the till. read more

How did they manage to ruin a chocolate eclair? by making the pastry taste like hard cardboard instead of a light fluffy floury confection. by making the once creamy, soft,, sugary custard taste like a glue i use to put together boxes, and by substituting real dairy whipping cream with fake (no real ingredients) one. they ultra thing layer of dark chocolate tasted pretty good, but it was as thin as i have ever seen chocolate. the razmataz on the top wasn't even that pretty. instead of all the stuff on top, how about real ingredients for an ancient desert that used to taste like heaven. read more

I am generally on Yelp to find a place to eat but I also look for reviews for other businesses. We all buy groceries, but it would be nice to know what I am getting into before I stop because I have not been to every store! In the valley the one thing we do not have is a place that has high end groceries items. When I say high end I mean DOP tomatoes, because the moment you open one of those cans and hand crush whole tomatoes and do the same with the others you will understand. That and the flavor it top notch. Ok, unfortunately this store does not carry them. But, they have an amazing mushroom selection. And, generally you can find a great selection of unique cheeses and cured import meats by the registers. While their produce isn't top notch, I can reliably find organic chard here where it is hit or miss other places. Lastly, they generally have some unique meats in the frozen food section. Think Elk, veal and cuts of lamb you can't get north of Everett. I bought them out of veal because it hasn't been back in a while! All in all, I drive out of my way to shop here because I can generally find what I want as well as things I didn't know I wanted! read more

I stopped by here because I wanted to go to the bathroom on the way to Mount Vernon. The inside of the store was very clean and all the staff kindly called out to me. I was impressed with the bakery area. There is a wide variety of donuts, pastries, bagels, cookies and cakes. After all, I bought 10 donuts and beers. If you come to the bakery area, you may buy donuts like I do. If you are on a diet, it will be a dangerous place. This review is specifically for the Chinese section of the deli at the Haggen in Mount Vernon. I have been ordering takeout Chinese from this Haggen location since they opened in the late 90's, and back then it was really good, and now I am sorry to say the food just keeps getting worse and worse. Today was the final time I will be ordering Chinese takeout from this location. The Honey Glazed Chicken literally had the appearance of dog food, I've had far better Chow Mein at a stand at the fair, and the General's Chicken was just hot but had zero flavor. Absolutely disgusting. I would never even feed this food to my dog, I just threw it in the garbage after taking two bites. Next time I'll stick with the regular deli, or the bakery, both are very good at this location. read more

He kept looking at me like i was asking if he was a Russian spy. Or serial killer. You know the look 'HOW DARE you ask me that question!' First, let me say I love this grocery store, and I will continue to shop here EXCEPT for our produce. The produce section is not up to par. There is an abundance of over ripe nearly rotten fruit, vegetables, and herbs every time I visit. The condition of the produce section has consistently gotten worse for the last couple of months. I only really stop in here because it's less than 5 minutes from my house but my daughter and I simply went for breakfast burritos to take home. The short-haired red head girl behind the counter cleary is racist. She didn't greet us, it was so obvious it was painful for her to even have to help us but she had no choice because the manager was standing right there, so she had to put on a fake show. She just threw our food on the counter, didn't ask if there was anything else we needed and didn't even offer my daughter salsa with her burrito, which apparently is supposed to come with it. I'm writing specifically about the pharmacy. Extremely poor service and very long wait lines. There is a rep who helps with orders and at the front counter. She is incredibly rude. If she knows you it's great but to me and my kindly elderly parents we are treated as an inconvenience. I have been coming to the pharmacy for over 2 years. I have always been pleased with the service. It is conveniently located and the staff, Brandon, Steven, Kaitlyn, Jennifer, and others, always courteous, friendly, and knowledgeable. Some of the reviews, which describe certain employees by their hair color, and then request for the discharge of such employees are not going to solve anything. When complaining of an issue, I like to stick to real facts and suggest thought out reasons to improve the situation. There is obvious frustration been shown by the writers, and when examined some reasons come to mind that management could improve on. 1. The customer frustrations are from waiting for long periods in shopping aisle, especially for seniors. I don't like to stand in a line where shoppers are trying to reach around you to grab a toiletry item. Find a way for the line to form without blocking the aisle. 2. Respect customer privacy - I can hear everything that the customer is saying at the window, such as their birthdate, last name, and what medication they are taking. Management should perform a study to protect their customers privacy. 3. Arrange for some seating, especially for senior customers waiting standing for long periods. 4. Find the times when the lines become long and find ways to reduce the backlog during those times. 5. Take the notices posted on the windows and place them so that customers can read each one as they progress through the line. 6. Computer screens should not be placed in a manner that blocks face to face communications with the customers. read more

By far the worst pharmacy in the Valley. The lady pharmacist that works the evening shift is extremely rude as well as the other staff.

We were working on a rental home late about 2 weeks ago. So we decided to pick up some food from the deli at Haggens. In the past we have had a decent experience with them. We settled on two panninni sandwiches and some pasta salad. It ended up costing about $35 so it was expensive. When we got home to eat we were so disappointed. I have been using this pharmacy for many years. The past 2 years have been terrible. I keep going back thinking it is a one time thing and it is just horrible. Never fails I drive into town to pick up my prescriptions only to be told they don't have it. Why can't they call when they can't fill an order when they say they will? Such of waste of my time and gas. Yesterday they were out of a certain dosage and asked if another dosage would be okay. I said I would check and call them back. Called back the next day to let them know it would be okay and they told me they don't have the dosage they were suggesting to me yesterday either! The system they have requires the Pharmacist to come out and approve before the order can be finalized. It's basically a one man show. The Pharmacist has to do everything, which if they are on the phone or busy with something else, you can be waiting forever. I really can't blame it on any particular person. Their whole system is really bad... The location is convenient for me as I buy my groceries and am happy with the rest of the store. It's quite clear that this is just the way it is and I will have to find another pharmacy with better customer service. read more

I had a terrible experience calling in to check to see if my Rx was ready. The person who answered the phone was yelling at me over the phone, that she couldn't find it? And when I asked to talk to a manager, she REFUSED. She refused to give me her name as well. I wrote a detailed letter to the Manager of the store. And I called the pharmacy to transfer my Rx. I was NEVER apologized to, and told that the incident NEVER happened, according to the pharmacy staff! I have a MS in Psychology. I am not a LIAR, and I cannot believe the degree of DENIAL by the Manager of the store, as well as the Pharmacy Staff. I will NEVER GO IN THAT STORE AGAIN. Would you believe that a loaf of bread purchased from Haggen "Northwest Fresh" Bakery could be 2 days old when purchased? I bought a loaf of what I thought was fresh bread in a paper wrapper that read "Baked Fresh Daily." I opened it soon after I got it home and could tell right away that it was STALE!! Looking more closely at the wrapper, there was a sticker on the underside that said "Packed on Oct 14, 21. Sell Thru Oct 19, 21." My purchase date was Oct 16, which means that they intentionally sold 2-day-old bread as "fresh," which it most certainly was not! And it was still 3 days from its pull date! It would have been hard as a rock by then. Shame! Bakeries used to sell day-old goods for 1/2 price, and toss them if they weren't sold by them. read more

Haggen's is a nice store. Always very nicely set up with plenty of good variety of food. They do a great job following the COVD restrictions which make me comfortable to go in their store. Their prices are on the high side which makes me come in for specialty items only. When I see a box of muffins selling for $9 for 4 basic muffins which are sold elsewhere for $6, it seems a very high price to pay and I don't. My husband bought two packs of tofu on April 19, and today I plan to cook them and I cannot believe it's expired already since March 29! What a waste !!! The pharmacy in this haggen is absolutely pathetic. They have terrible customer/patient care. The employees in this pharmacy offer zero discretion and are so out of touch with how people, should and want, to be treated in a pharmacy it's amazing. They are incredibly slow as well and just leave me with a terrible feeling as you do not want you pharmacists to appear so incompetent. I will never be filling a prescription at this pharmacy again.
