The lengthy title says it all: Sunshine Salvage Amish Discount Grocery & Country Store…read more In the middle of Monte Vista, CO lies this moderate looking store. There could be another sign or two advertising the place, however, Google Maps will lead you strait to it. A very nice Amish woman laughed at my cowboy's jokes and asked me if I was related to another local. To my knowledge, I am not! Lol. The parking lot was gravel with unmarked spaces. A sleepy dog with wavy yellowish-brown hair greeted us gently, but immeditely went back to snoozing. Inside the semi-dusty country store was a surprising amount of everything one could possibly need in a pinch: + dried beans and pastas + nuts and all the baking goods + pie filling + canned goods + household supplies + personal hygiene items + cold drinks and snacks + cat/dog commodities I picked up a jar of locally-made blackberry jam, apple cider vinegar, and drinks for the kids all for under $13. Keep in mind that items like dented canned goods and some smashed packaged items are sold with deep discounts. They do not sell much meat aside from the canned variety. I paid cash for our items, but they do accept plastic. I will definitely be here in the future. TIP The store is open daily except on Sunday 9AM-5PM. Also, their bakery is open only a few days of the week which we sadly missed out on.

Since moving to the San Luis Valley, Sam's Club is not accessible to me anymore (unless I drive 2-1/2 hours to Pueblo), so I looked into Valley Meat. The price of their beef short ribs is actually comparable, if not less expensive. I've also bought pork belly, and they cut them to however I want them. Meats that are not available at Walmart, City Market or Safeway, I buy them at the Valley Meat Market. Recently, I bought ox tail there. I have two large German Shepherd dogs. I buy quartered raw femur bones regularly at Valley Meat with prices that do not break the bank. My dogs love them!!! I have to mention that the folks at the meat market are also very nice and friendly. As soon as you walk in, someone will immediately help you. If you do not like to wait, give them a call and place your order. Just let them know when you want to pick up, they'll have your order ready for you. Try them...they have excellent fresh meat!!!

I cannot say enough good things about the tire team at the Alamosa Walmart. They absolutely saved…read moreus on Labor Day! We had a tire blow while we were on our way home and were scrambling to find somewhere that could help us. They were the ONLY tire place we could find open on Labor Day, and every single person there worked their butt off to get us taken care of and back on the road. They were kind, helpful, hardworking, and genuinely seemed to care that we were stranded away from home. They even let us bring our giant dog into the waiting area while they worked on our vehicle, which meant more to us than they probably realized. This entire team deserves recognition -- and honestly, they deserve a raise. They turned what could have been an awful ending to our trip into such a positive experience. I hope management makes sure they hear how much their work mattered to us. Words really cannot express how grateful we are. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to the entire tire team for working on a holiday and getting us safely back on our way home. You guys were amazing!

It's near the cutoff on the way to Creede on Highway 160 which had some gnarly potholes as of August 9, 2024. I thought CDOT was supposed to have those repaired this summer?! Lol. This place has really nice staff members. My favorite buys: + fuel + ice + last-minute groceries + fishing licenses + fishing gear / bait + some hunting gear / tools It's still got the same old rainbow sign. The only suggestion is that they offer regular sub-hoagie bread. The only options are Ciabatta rolls, sliced sourdough or sliced Rye. Lots of drink options and tasty chip choices.
