SAFEWAY IS NOTTTTT SAFE!!!! Today my daughter and my 2 year old Granddaughter (whom was sleeping) went to Safeway Monroe Hwy 2 for a pick up order. When they got there the " employee of the month" came out and just opened our car and woke up my baby. Nicely my daughter gets out of car to nicely say she was putting in side not back. So , employee of the month put our groceries on the GROUND and GROUND! And walks away. My daughter said excuse me... and she said talk it up w my mngr. EXCUSE ME ! So she attempts to share her experience and do you know what the MANAGER SAID "did she put the bags on a pile of poop"? Excuse meeeee?????!!!!!! She then is told to bring her groceries back to get her money back. She did. Drug all the stuff and my Granddaughter in to store to be met in l9bby in front of everyone and treated like complete crap and told she was wrong and not allowed bck? Are you kidding me. RED HEAD CHUCK IS THE STORE DIRECTOR. An apology and replacement of groceries would have suffice. I then call headquarters and they hang up. NOT the Safeway itself, it's the Chinese food at the deli. Mongolian beef had the texture of rubber. Fried rice tastes like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for a long time. It was also VERY dry!! Pot stickers were extra hard. I would NOT recommend this food. The price was reasonable for a family meal though. I used the digital app and at check out had a had a hard time figuring it out. Tara helped me but I needed to go thru a regular check out. When I got to one low and behold there was Tara. Had a great experience checking out with her. As a retired Union checker, including working for Safeway, she earned a 5 star from me. Also love the small courtesy lady with long gray hair is the best. I wish I had workers that worked as hard as she does. read more

The hubby and I stopped by for a nice steak dinner (prepared at home obviously with all the fixings) and asked the female butcher for assistance. We usually shop our hometown Lake Stevens Safeway but we happen to be in the area so the location made sense on our way home. We looked at a few different steak choices but none of the singles looked as good as the packaged pair. We asked her to split the package up and then seal the ones we wanted, which seemed like a reasonable request!? Anytime we've asked for this at our usual Safeway, it's met with a "sure thing" and followed by a smile. That was NOT the case here. She literally argued with us about how "they" don't like doing that and told us to find another option. My husband asked her why this was an issue and she just continued to say how it wasn't done that way. He stood his ground and she said "fine", took it from him with a deep scowl on her face and returned what we wanted a few minutes later. We thanked her and went on our way. We will likely never shop there again, if we can help it! read more

This is the second time in 2 years that I've written a bad review for Safeway of Monroe. The first time was due to front manager's unwillingness to replace a bottle of gin that fell through one of their weak plastic bag. The most recent was today when I forgot my walle, but told the self check-out person that I would be back in a few minutes with my wallet. When I came back in about 5-6 minutes later my cart was gone. The self check person had started the process of putting my groceries back on the shelves. Not sure what her interpretation of a few minutes means but it's not less than 5 minute. She called the bag person who had taken my cart to return back to self checkout. When he arrived, he was polite and gave the cart to me. I then proceeded to go and check myself out. The self checkout person proceeded to yell Sir, Sir several times, which I'm sure everyone could hear her yelling. At the time I wasn't sure that she was in fact yelling at me. However, I quickly realized once she walked over to me with a discussed look on her face and threw the bag ice that I needed on my shopping list Into my cart. read more

The pharmacy needs to get their s*** together. They always seem to quote much shorter wait times than they can manage, so if they quote you 30 minutes, you're probably actually looking at an hour. I've never had them be right and have always been stuck waiting about double the quoted time. They're also very against doing the $25 gift card with a new or transferred RX and won't mention it even if they advertise it. They have even argued with me about it when I pulled up the offer up on their website showing that it was current and wasted an extra 20 minutes (on top of the time it took to prepare prescriptions) of my time arguing before they would do it. When I've gone to other Safeway pharmacies (like Bothell and Woodinville), I've never had an issue at all. The pharmacist also recommended taking a short acting medication before bed. Only when I talked to my doctor and other patients about it did I find out that it should be taken in the morning so that I would actually feel the benefits of the medication. I guess in short, there are other options in Monroe. This is just not worth it. read more

3 stars based on the basics, but could be better: Meat Dept.-- typically cordial service, but often seem distracted or bothered to be interrupted in their stocking duties. Last Saturday was a good example. Blonde, younger lady was really nearly rude. She was stocking shelves next to the service counter, the only one nearby. I asked for a sirloin steak to be sliced for stroganoff. She said OK, and grabbed a steak. I said I'd be back later, as I had other shopping to do. I finished, swung by, thanked her as she had returned to stocking shelves, and she barely responded without acknowledging my gratitude. Produce--Pretty good, consistent quality. Deli--Nice personnel, prompt service. Checkers--Hit and miss, often lacking in friendliness or even a greeting. Overall, I think this is a challenging location for any retail store. Always transients present nearby, and similarly unsavory customers. To illustrate, their liquor shelves are locked up, while down the road in Duvall there are no locked liquor cabinets. read more

NOTE: Okay, so this review is regarding the Starbucks in this Safeway, not the Safeway itself. I went into this Starbucks to get my free birthday drink on December 12th at around 5:30 pm. It was supposed to be free because I am a Rewards Member. I asked the barista if that Starbucks did the free drinks and she said yes. I then gave her my Rewards card. She looked confused and asked me if I had "the app," which I didn't. Then she proceeded to search for the right button on the cashier to allow me to get my free drink, for about 5 minutes. After that she gave up and said that she couldn't find it and that it would be $5.89. I wasn't prepared to pay money, nor did I want to! After she said that, I told her I did not want the drink and she said, "So you don't want it?" and I said "No." She then threw my cup in the rubbish with a nasty attitude. I have had good experiences with other Starbucks locations in the past, but this time I felt extremely unimportant and unhappy. I will not return to this specific Starbucks ever again, and if I do go back to Starbucks, I will expect better customer service. read more

(Several months ago) I had an employee named Jaren go above and beyond for me, a the Monroe Safeway, when I told him I had lost my keys. He sent people to walk the isles looking for them and he put on a pair of gloves and looked in the trash at the front entrance because I thought I might have thrown them away and He found them! At the bottom of the trash can haha! I couldn't have been more grateful. Thank you! The reason for the 3 star review is because I haven't had great experiences at the Deli trying to order breakfast or lunch. I always feel ignored and feel like I'm waiting a long time for what is suppose to be quick and ready food. Maybe they need more staff working it? I will for sure be coming back to this store but I'll avoid the deli if I'm in a hurry. read more

WORST. SAFEWAY. EVER! As many have stated, the checkouts are always understaffed. DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE BETWEEN 4 and 7 PM unless you like waiting in long lines. Even the express checkouts are slow, slow, slow. Maybe they should have some of the teenagers that are asking if i need help out (which oddly happens far less often than other safeway stores) doing checkout when the lines start getting backed up. Frankly, i'm surprised that the cashiers that work there are as friendly as they are, considering they're probably under a lot of stress, since their lines are usually 6-12 people deep. This store is poorly managed. I'm guessing it's so some some manajerk can get his bonus because labor costs are lower. The huge backups are frustrating to ALL customers. Especially when you have to navigate through the rear of the store, because the lines are so backed up nobody can get through across the front of the aisles. This store needs to be fixed or someone in charge needs to be fired. This place is a hell hole unless you just happen to get lucky in the middle of a weekday or late in the evening. We shop here less and less. I've nearly stopped going altogether. If there's a sale at Safeway, I'd rather drive to Duvall and spend as much time DRIVING there and back as i'd spend in the lines in Monroe. read more

First thing is, be ready to wait in line. I can spend more time in line then I have shopping. I don't understand why this Safeway has this problem, none of the near by stores do. The slap in the face is when I see the manager and another clerk hanging out and not helping the customers check out. Be mindful that your customers have busy lives and would like to get on with them. Produce.. We'll I picture the buyers being last in line at the market hoping to pickup a great deal on the leftovers, because the quality is really bad. I don't care if it's on sale it's still bad. Last night i was shopping right before closing at 1 am. By the time I was at checkout and they checked everyone out it was past 1. Maybe 1:10. The checker left and i was standing there. ( in all fairness, the checker couldn't see me as I was still standing back a little bit looking at my items etc. ) so I asked a night stalker if I was able to get checked out. She looked pretty irritated with me and said I'll get my manager. I believe his name was steve. He came out and gladly checked me out. I had quit a bit of stuff too. I know they want to get home. She was very well informed about the drinks that Starbucks offered and even recommended one of my new favorites! She went above and beyond my expectations for a Starbucks employee. Since the Walmart has opened up they have almost doubled their prices. Food quality has gone downhill - watered bacon, fat in the meat, produce is not fresh, etc. Bakery costs skyrocketed. $9 cake now costs $18 Very disappointed - been shopping @ Safeway for decades. Yesterday was the last day that I will ever step foot in the Monroe Safeway store again. There are never enough checkers. At 5:30 in the evening they need to have more than three checkers (two regular and one express) to accommodate the after work shoppers. I picked up ice cream as the last item on my list and got in line. I live (literally)1 mile from the store and by the time I got home the ice cream was partially melted. I also had a horrible experience with the pharmacy department. I addressed the situation with the pharmacist and found her to be rude and condescending. I plan to follow up outside this company as I believe my HIPPA rights were completely violated. Get it together Safeway before you lose even more customers. read more

Don't waste your money getting Chinese food from the Monroe Safeway deli. Normally Safeway has pretty decent Chinese food. I have tried this place 3 times now, just hoping I was having bad luck. Today I got some General Tsao and it was so hard and tough I couldn't even take a bite. It must've been sitting there all day. Very disappointing. Worst Staffing at Check Out Stands No self checkout lane and only 3 checkout stands were open at 4:30pm. All the lines have at least 6 people deep and no one is happy waiting in the lines. The store isn't that busy. They just have no checkers. I believe they have 8 checkout stands available but chose to only use 3. One being the "Express Checkout". The only saving grace to this place is the meat department. read more

Hadn't been to safeway for a long time, they had a ad for foster farms fresh whole chickens .88¢ per pound so I bought 4 today, bought a fresh banana cream pie from the bakery too. Well, when I got home and started removing skin and fat from the chickens and preparing for the freezer I realized they had been frozen- still were inside and far from fresh! On top of that I just went for a piece of the fresh from the bakery pie and it's frozen too! How deceitful! Really, the new walmart is nicer, fresh means fresh there (not in the process of thawing) and the prices are better. read more

Recently, I have noticed the produce quality plummet. They have rotten apples, onions, oranges, and potatoes laying right in top. I saw a moldy orange about two days ago. The cakes and cupcakes in the bakery all had sell by dates of the next day. The "freshly baked" pastries looked stale and the clamshell containers were sweating from the temperature fluctuating so much. It was disgusting. My family has decided not to purchase our fresh produce or bakery items from this Safeway. I will say their meat is consistently good. It is usually the other way around. The staff is always nice and helpful. The self checkouts are new and actually work. I have not seen a backed up check out line since my last review, so that's an improvement. Just stay away from the "fresh" goods. read more
