I'm not sure why I feel strange writing this review but I wanted to give a shoutout to the Safeway employees and also the brand representatives (? I'm not sure of the right title, but the people who don't work for Safeway but work for Lay's and stock the chips, or work for Hershey's and stock the candy, etc, etc). I come in here almost every week in the morning and I've never been warmly greeted by so many people, EVERY SINGLE TIME. I'm sure I'm mostly getting in their way since I am usually shopping while they are refilling the shelves, but they all truly couldn't be any nicer. I'd assume this is a representation of Safeway since they all seem to be so friendly, but also wanted to give a shoutout to all of the different brands since their employees are displaying such awesome customer service. read more

I know it's a grocery store, and you can't really complain about what items they carry or don't carry, that's not the point. What you can judge is the quality of service, and that's where this Safeway stood out. The in-store Starbucks, however, was a different story. They managed to mess up multiple coffee orders, which is literally their one job. It shouldn't be that difficult, but somehow it was. What really made the visit worthwhile was the Safeway staff. The employees were great, friendly, helpful, and actually seemed to care. One employee (customer service) in particular went above and beyond, taking the time to help without being asked and making the whole experience much better. The Safeway team deserves credit. Grocery delivery is awful. Placed an order and the driver never showed up. Claims I wasn't home (see screenshot below) but when I went to talk to customer service (a poorly trained AI bot) there was no option for "my order never showed up" (see screenshot below) When I tried free form text it also did not understand my question (see screenshot below). I'm going to find even more things I can switch from Safeway to Trader Joe's and Costco now because they understand customer service. read more

This review is solely for the BAKERY. I have gotten my sons' birthday cupcakes, cakes etc. from the bakery here for the last couple of years and I just needed to give a major shout out to JERINA. She is so patient and helpful. Every year I still manage to ask a gazillion questions and go back and forth, but she always takes the time to talk through my options. Next day after preparing to eat the other half I discovered the back of bread roll had gross black mold and spore bumps (see pics). Inspect your sandwich well. There is a rude employee named Rashid that works at this store. I think k he is a bagger/order picker. A few months he was bagging my groceries and asked me a question but I didn't hear him. He then rudely asked me if I spoke English. I was so surprised and shocked that someone would speak to me that way I just said "yes" and left with my groceries. I know it is cheap chinese buffet serve yourself bar. I know it is a bit expensive. I know is far from being top resturant made Chinese food. I know the selections are a bit limited. Regardless, was wonderful!! Love it, entire bar/buffet event and ease of serving oneself. Have been a 30yr Midtown Palo Alto Safeway client. I had no idea about Safeway El Camino Menlo Park Chinese Buffet/self serve bar. Until last week. Today I spent $60. 5 entrees, approx. $9 per lb. Veggie Rice, Chow Mein, Kung Po Chicken, Sweet/Sour Pork, and a Eggplant saute. Will get at least 6 meals from this food fest. With today dining out costs, well worth the cost. Coming back soon........ BTW, this store is amazing as to size and brand selections. The food specialty stores: coffee, deli, various buffets, list goes on and on. After Safeway was sold to Albertson's, I wanted to give the transition a chance. I started noticing the store-brand products changed and I felt a little less full after eating them. The vegetables slightly changed their wax. All of a sudden, they don't last as long and I feel hungry after eating. Kroger already has that reputation, and Albertson's is purchasing them... There's inflation and having to buy more food. On top of that, their food is approaching the "empty calorie" department. I steadfastly do not like Albertson's. read more

this store is very overpriced compared to other Safeways . the seafood is poor quality. for the price. The pharmacy staff frequently will not accepts calls or messages when you have an issue and need to speak with a pharmacist directly. Wish there was another option nearby for the pharmacy, and will continue to shop at TJs and WF instead. :-( read more

Brought back a milk bottle for deposit return, and bought a few groceries. Fortunately, my wife insisted on checking the receipt at the register. Instead of crediting $3.00 for the return, the checker charged us $7.49 as if it was a full bottle of milk, plus an additional $3.00 deposit. Ok. Humans make mistakes. Then instead of correcting their error, they told us to go to customer service. Rude and aggravating, but off we went. We waited at customer service a few minutes, explained, showed the receipt and the bottle, and they refunded us the $10.49 incorrect charge, but still didn't give us the refund on the bottle. That turned into yet another transaction. It was only 10 or 15 minutes, but unnecessary and aggravating. Please train your people better. When they make a mistake, they should fix it there on the spot instead of sending the customer off to seek help elsewhere. read more

This store is so overpriced! | got groceries today and also purchased a 30 pack of COORS light which was $24.99. I pulled it from the cold section then as I was walking around they had another display which was small on other side of store. I noticed that there was a digital coupon setting on the floor in front of the beers. Which was not only hard to read but not really visible unless you're crawling on the floor. On Sunday, April 14 at 10 AM I was in Safeway Menlo park. It was in the back of the store right by the bathrooms and witnessed a male worker come out of the bathroom still pulling his pants up and zipping. His hands were dry, and it was very very very very very clear that he had not washed his hands. Cringing I followed him to see if by any chance he did not work handling food. You can imagine my discussed and dismay when I saw him, enter the deli section and go to work. I was utterly repulsed. So Safeway management, it would really be a good idea for you to have food, hygiene and cleanliness, mandatory classes and reminders. I come here quite often. I do love the store. My problem with the review here is that when I came in, it was the deli. The service was lacking. The sandwich I got, the cheese was hard as a rock. It's frustrating sometimes wanting to support this grocery store and seeing certain things happen. I understand that times are tough and so prices go up but man I've never seen tofu at this high of a price. Almost $5/block with no options to buy in bulk or save. What frustrates me the most about this evening was the fact that the store was restocking their shelves. It does not look like the people who are restocking are employees of Safeway but it's still very frustrating. Trying to get to the plant-based aisle, which is only One shelf, there were two large crates blocking any access to the tofu and any other of the plant-based replacement meats. This was the main reason I got there but then when I saw that the tofu blocks were almost 5 dollars, I guess I'm glad that it was blocked and I couldn't get through. i'm sure that the grocery store only does this every once in a while but it is kind of dangerous to have all those crates and boxes in the isles where shoppers are coming through. It would be one thing if this was a store that had regular hours but this is a 24 hour store. I was very disappointed that I couldn't get to a lot of the food that I wanted to get. I know these guys are there doing the job of restocking but I think it goes a long way to be mindful of customers who may need help. Anyway, this is still a good place to come to if you have deep pockets. But if you are struggling student like myself, I would say to find plant-based foods elsewhere. read more

Very unhappy with this store's Steph Curry signing! They made you purchase bottles ahead of time at an exorbitant price just to stand in line knowing full well that they were not limiting the number of bottles/items for signature. They didn't give you the bottles you only got the receipt to hold until you got the signature. There were so many people in line and, because there was no limit on signings, only about a third of the people were able to get a signature during his 1-1/2 hr. appearance. The rest of us were left high and dry with over priced bottles of whiskey and anger towards Safeway for screwing loyal customers to make a buck. Even though we hadn't touched a bottle, they would not allow us to get a refund! They made us stand in line and just handed bottles and checked off our receipt! I'll never be back again!! read more

I'd give them no stars if possible. Saturday October 12th 2024 they had an event where if you bought Steph curry of the warriors bourbon you could meet him and get your bottle signed. So they had everyone buy it but for those who didn't get a signature the store would not refund them the money . Let me state No WHERE ON THE RECEIPT DOES IT SAY NO REFUND. Safeway doesn't honor the deals and rewards it promises. The last two times I redeemed awards for free products (using the club card associated with my account) in this store, they charged me for the products anyway. When I scan the barcode on the shelf tag for an advertised in-store deal using the Safeway app, the scan returns other deals, but never the one advertised. Can't get the deal price. I'm tired of complaining to Albertson's (parent company) customer service in Phoenix. They're ripping off customers and need to be held accountable. Reply to manager: Have tried "Contact Us" many times. Often don't get a reply. When I finally did get an email back recently requesting info I'd already submitted, it said "you can reply to this email," but when I did that, it bounced. I finally mailed a letter to the customer service address in Phoenix with my receipt and details on the deals not credited. No response. I'm done wasting my time. Safeway's failures to honor its advertised deals & rewards used to be rare; now they happen every shopping trip. Am alerting the FTC and CA Attorney General. Time for Albertsons/Safeway to start paying some million-dollar fines. read more

Tried and failed curbside pickup last weekend. Fulfillment was about 3 hours late (true for everyone in the parking lot at the time), and when I went to the store no one answered the phone to come out. I had to go in to the customer service desk, and it took about 10 minutes for my groceries to be brought out. Only about 1/3 of my order was fulfilled, so I had to shop again the next day. I also did not find easily accessible wipes or have any indication carts were cleaned when I arrived. Curbside pickup is meant to reduce contacts in supermarkets to protect both workers and the public. This experience caused multiple unecessary contacts. I am so thankful for everything grocery store workers are doing during this crisis (and everyone working here was very friendly), but I would rather see a store not have pickup and properly enforce physical distancing. read more

YOU HAFTA BUY THIS SALSA!!! I'm ONLY throwing up a 5-STAR here because of this insanely tasty salsa we just bought for Super Bowl 54 snacking--This local Casa Sanchez Cremosa salsa is ridiculously good! It has strong hints of chipotle, possibly from the roasted tomatoes, but somehow exudes a creamy texture and taste. The ingredients list doesn't have any dairy products (attached is a pic of the ingredient list from the salsa container). It is also great to support a local company--they were originally based in San Francisco. Great job to the Casa Sanchez team! (Full disclosure--I'm giving a 5-star review to Safeway Menlo Park only to get more people to buy this salsa so that this store continues to buy more of this product line. I like this Safeway, it's big and brightly lit and has great variety. They used to have plant-based spaghetti at the Ready to Eat section. They haven't in a while. This review is about the Starbucks in Safeway. They rung up my order and I didn't notice they didn't charge me for my pastry. I put it on my card. While I was waiting for my latte the cashier brought it to my attention. The cashier held my pastry hostage as though I wasn't going to pay for it. Truly a Supermarket with a capital S. They have so many items and products in this store I wouldn't even know where to begin. This store makes me feel safe. Safeway is my safe zone.
