This is the last classic Draeger's there is now that the San Mateo and Blackhawk locations have closed because the Los Altos location doesn't carry housewares. This location of Draeger's is much closer to what the San Mateo location used to be. The top floor is mostly cards/party supplies and housewares (though it does look like they have a coffee shop up there) and the bottom floor is the grocery section. They had easy parking right out front and I was able to pick up a chestnut scoring tool and review their small selection of Le Creuset. All in all if you have the option I'd visit this location over Los Altos as it's more robust and definitely more friendly. read more

Sure some of the prices are a little bit more expensive but the shopping experience is great and you can't beat the quality big enough parking lot plus parking on the street as well. Draeger's Market is the ultimate local grocery store in the San Francisco Bay Area. Luckily, Mom lives just minutes away from the Menlo Park location, so we easily hop on over whenever we are in search of hard-to-find ingredients or produce. Draeger's in Menlo Park offers free parking in their private lot. Mom and I have never had trouble finding a spot whenever we visit. As you enter the store, patrons are greeted by the beautiful flower section to the left and the delicatessen to the right. The venue is always very clean and tidy. A high-end supermarket known for its meat, produce, cheese, baked goods, plus global & gourmet items, we have always been able to count on Draeger's to find rarities and exotic food items. My family loves their wide variety of cheeses and we also have enjoyed their ready-to-heat, then eat enchiladas. I have also been excited to find boxes of my favourite Divine Delights petits fours from their bakery. Service here is also top notch. Gustavo is awesome and has the best disposition, demonstrating that he enjoys his job and customer care. One night, in December, 2024, he helped us identify and find broccoli rabe...after first kiddingly pointing us to pasilla peppers. We had a great laugh. Since then we continue to giggle with him over the fond memory. Draeger's is definitely one of the best if not THE BEST markets around. read more

I'm always a fan of coming here. The location is great, and there's plenty of parking outside. As soon as you walk in, it's clean and inviting. It actually reminds me of the San Mateo location which sadly closed. Just like the San Mateo location, this draegers has two levels. There is a produce on the first floor, and a café and kitchenware section on the second. This store has a great selection of the things I need, and they're usually well stocked with fresh items. It's a really nice place to shop! The staff here are nice and friendly. Always greeted with a smile! My only complaint is that the cheese and meat sections don't always show the pricing clearly. Came here after buying spices from Penzeys on Santa Cruz Ave. it's just a few minutes away. Didn't shop for groceries as I had a sweet tooth that morning, i enjoyed the blueberry danish ($3.95) and a pumpkin cheesecake tart ($7,50) Both were fresh and crave-able. Bad customer service that only wants money Ordered a fruit tart for pick up. Went into the store to pick up. They gave me the box. Since it's raining, I asked for a bag to carry the box. The staff asked for 25cents. I had left the wallet in the car, thinking it's a quick pick up. The manager asked, "you don't have 25 cents??" If I went to the car to get my wallet, I might as well just run through the rain with the tart box. Bad and rude customer service that has gone downhill in the past few years. read more

This supermarket is so fancy! It has absolutely everything you can imagine, really nice things. I love that you can find things here you won't find elsewhere, like specialty teas, and an entire wall of fancy unique jams and jellies. They had a huge variety of prepared food in the deli and tons of sweets in the bakery. I definitely will come back again!! read more

As soon as I walk in the door of Draeger's, I feel happy. Well, happier at least. We all have our own journeys. Anyway, Draeger's is a happy place for me because I know I'm going to have something good soon. Whether it's food, drinks, or their cooking classes, I have had nothing but good experiences here. For food and drinks, Draeger's was Whole Foods before Whole Foods was Whole Foods. And they have more imported stuff than Whole Foods and a way better wine selection. And a better butcher. And better prepared foods. If you want to spend like you're at Whole Foods, or even more, for really high quality groceries, this is your spot. Draeger's also sells kitchen and home goods on the second floor, they are a bit old fashioned for my taste but look well made. Also, in years past they had really nice cooking classes. Varied types of cuisine were offered and I attended a few, all were well put together and even ended up with enough food that I was full! That is sadly not the case for some other cooking classes (looking at you, Sur La Table). Parking is just okay, the lot isn't big and street parking is a bit tough. You may need to circle or walk a bit. The only two reasons not to come here would be that it's inconvenient, which Menlo Park kind of is, or if you're looking to save money, which is not what you'll do at Draegar's. Ordered a gift basket on-line, to be sent to the hospital.The web site stated that there would be a service charge for Fed-Ex delivery. I received a call from the Draeger's Menlo Park site rather than the Los Altos site (the site I was on when I ordered the product) and was told "it was going to be hand delivered the next day, could I please clarify the address". Today I received a call from an Uber drive who did unfortunately did not speak English very well. He said he was having difficulty locating the address. Shortly after I received a text from Uber saying the delivery was cancelled. I called Draeger's. First they said "we don't have anything to do with Uber, we don't use Uber. Then they said " You are calling the wrong store, we havent even done gift baskets in six years" (I placed the order from their web site, choosing the Los Altos location as it's closer to the hospital. Nothing stated there was no delivery from that location.) Then they found my order. Then they said "Uber delivered it, it's not our problem if they couldn't find the address, it's your problem." I asked why it wasn't shipped FexEX as per the shipping charges on the web site check out, but did not receive an answer. They did not offer to simply have the charges reversed on my credit card. THEY SAID THE PACKAGE WAS IN UBER'S HANDS AND IT WAS UP TO ME THAT IT WAS NOT DELIVERED, AND THEY WERE NOT GOING TO OFFER ME A REFUND!!! It's really difficult to understand how this company has so many expensive gift baskets for sale on their web site and yet they could not even mange to get a gift basket to go a hospital right nearby. One would think they would want to have this type of business in their stable. I do not recommend this company. As Monty Python says "Run Away". read more

Draegers has exquisite produce and prepared foods. I'm always impressed with the quality and flavor. I would like to gently recommend the deli/ prepared foods chefs cook the vegetables in their clam chowder longer. The celery and onion were really not cooked in the May 9 batch. A while back I noticed under cooking in the fresh potato salad as well. The potatoes were simply not cooked long enough. I have not purchased it since - afraid to take a chance. My Mom and I are chewing and chewing our soup today! I really hate being negative ... but not the first time. I am a huge supporter of Draegers. The sushi is always fresh and tasty. Their prices are high for regular groceries, but they have a unique selection of local and artisan specialty goods that you cannot find elsewhere. I mostly stop by here to kill time when I'm wandering the neighborhood with kiddos. They like to wander up and down the aisles and look at all the colorful deli and bakery foods. Also, I really like their chicken noodle soup, especially when I'm feeling under the weather! It's made with rich chicken broth, chunks of boneless and skinless chicken, and thin egg noodles. It's pretty pricey, but very delicious. Service is quite friendly and efficient in all the various departments. read more

Draeger's is my main grocery store. I have shopped there for 30 years. The produce is outstanding. The meats are outstanding also. They make their own Italian sausages and these are delicious. The lamb at Draeger's is the best I have ever cooked with. Shoulder, chops, shanks, ground, all really good. Another treasure is the smoked ham hocks, which they will slice up for you so you can use a piece when you make soup. We love their rib-eye steaks. They have many specialty items too, more than you would think for a not-huge suburban market. Yes, it is expensive, but this is Menlo Park. And it must be a pretty good place to work, as the same people have helped me there for many years. It is not true that the parking is difficult. Park in the lot on the Menlo Ave side, there are always plenty of spaces there, and the spaces are bigger than those on the other side. One more thing -- you might not think of -- the tostaditas -- tortilla chips, are delicious. Find them in the front of the store, with their salsas and guac, which are pretty good. read more

I've been coming here for 20 years. I actually drive past three other groceries to shop at Draeger's. My friends ask me why I spend money there as it's so expensive and the answer is service. They always double bag, the meat and bakery staff are extremely helpful and friendly, and I can (almost) always find more obscure items and cuts that I cannot elsewhere. And best of all, they staff so that I am usually the second or maybe third in line to checkout. However, recently it's been a different story. I don't know if they have a new manager or what, but the checkout experience has been horrific. Yesterday was the third time in a row I've come around the corner and there were only two registers open on a busy day. I must have been 8th in line. And everyone else at the end of the line was pretty yanked as well. Neither cashier seemed in any hurry to check customers through. And lately the older baggers seem pretty surly. I've noticed now they just throw things into the bag. Yesterday they put a cake at the bottom and piled the heavy items on top of it. If this is the level of service moving forward I'll skip the prices and wait in the lines at Safeway. Maybe the manager is trying to make points cutting cost corners. Maybe they're just not paying attention. Either way the Draeger family needs to get their head in the game in Menlo Park and get back to the level of service locals pay for. read more

We are regulars at the MP coffee bar. We like the food, the coffee and the service. However, last week I ordered the lentil soup, which was very spicey, so much that I couldn't finish it. Then we went downstairs and ordered the beef stew for our dinner. It was also very spicey! We hope the people preparing the dishes just made a one-time error in measurement or spice container. My last experience could be an SNL skit, except I got poor customer service and, after four visits to the store, a day-old birthday cake that was different from what I ordered. I must have caught Kimberley on a bad day. Over the years, she has been professional. On my fourth trip to the store regarding the cake, she was not happy that I was surprised my cake would be a day old. There is no reason to pay bakery prices for a day-old cake. Anyway, the birthday was great except for the cake. After making sure I was clear on the order and subsequent visits that I was ordering a lemon poppyseed cake with lemon frosting, that's not what I saw when I cut into the cake. Draeger's Market is an upscale grocery store, with higher prices for a variety of food options. The store itself is quite large, and they even have a second floor with a lovely coffee shop (with a staff member working behind the counter who is incredibly friendly). Personally, I don't think the items offered at Draeger's justifies the high prices so I rarely shop here for all my food needs. For certain items, such as wine or other one-off purchases, this location was reliable and convenient. Staff was friendly and the store is kept clean and orderly. If you took the average cost of a trip to Whole Food's and put it on steroids you would have Draeger's. Draeger's is basically a place where the 1% shop for groceries. Or rather the shopper for the 1% shop here and you can see 2%'ers roaming the isles. It is an exquisite grocery store unlike others that since I am not a Dot.Comer is relegated to novelty or specialty store for our purposes. Oy Vey its pricey. The cost of staples is easily the highest in the area which is saying alot. I could not afford to shop here on a daily basis and say own a car. SO with that backdrop why do we occasional venture into the store? 1) The customer service is fantastic. Even for those of us that look like we don't belong in the upper socioeconomic crust. Its basically the Nordstroms customer service model applied to a grocery store. 2) The Deli: They have an expansive range of lunch meats and prepared foods. I have yet to have a dud when trying. Yes its pricey but worth it int he long run. 3) The Bakery: Huge selection of cakes and other baked goods and every time we buy one its been a hit. On the pricey side mind you but.... 4) Esoteric selection. Looking for that odd specialty mustard? 10 kinds of ketchup? Pasta that costs more than say caviar? They have you covered! Its a huge selection and its fun to just browse. 5) Wine: with all my talk of this place being expensive, you would naturally assume that the wine would be just as jacked up. But, they actually have reasonable prices and a vast selection. Don't get me wrong if you feel the need to drop 4 figures on a bottle they have you covered but they also have some hidden gems if you take your time. The parking lot can be crowded and if its lunch time all bets are off. Also, many of the customers either missed or forgot the novel concept that you should put your car between the lines not over it. But i digress..... If your in the area, the bakery and deli alone make it a fun stop. They also have an upstairs area that is basically a high end Sur La Table and has tons of cooking stuff etc. They also have a pretty decent selection of Chateau Laguiole corkscrews. They prices are actually decent and those are a must have for anybody serious about wine. read more

Things continue to get worse at the Menlo Park store. The new employees are not friendly or helpful. One new cashier charged me wrong prices on 3 items and when I went back in said she couldn't help me. I had to find a manager, who was also new, not friendly, and reluctantly refunded me. No apologies from either. And yesterday, one of the long-time, very good baggers was in tears as he filled my bag. He said that would be the last time he would help me. He had been fired that morning, no reason given, and told not to come in today. The cashier also said it was just awful. Other customers also thanked and tried to console him. One wonderful thing, in addition to good fish, poultry, meat and produce, has always been the happy, friendly staff. Felt like family. But after many years, and obviously spending thousands of dollars there as my go-to store, I will never step foot in that market again. So very disappointing to see so many good employees treated so badly by corporate management. read more

I am not sure what to say here, I am speechless. Having lived in the area all my life and seeing many changes, I cannot believe this store. I have gone to the Draegers in Menlo Park, San Mateo even in Danville and nothing like this. First of all, this place does not seem up to par. I have friends that frequent this every week and rave, obviously, they have not gone anywhere else. The selection of vegetables and fruit, not good and pricing was outrageous on some items. One is better going to Safeway or to Sigona's in Palo Alto at Stanford or De Martinis in Los Altos or even Sprouts. Then went to the area where they sell in the deli department, that did not look good nor well kept. I will not order from this place at all. They had some specialty items throughout the store from Spain and Italy, way too expensive. I can get the same items at way lower of a cost at Avas on Castro Street in Mt View. So in my opinion and visits, the only thing redeeming here is your help and the cashiers are nice and friendly! The quality and prices and ambiance is less than. This is a great place to stop for breakfast or lunch on the way to Monterey area if you driving from up north in CA. Menlo Park is a well-heeled neighborhood so prices at Draeger's are reflective. That said, go to the little upstairs cafe and get wonderful service from there longtime ladies who are gracious and efficient. The menu items are very generous and easily split by 2 people (which we did) so that makes it a bargain. The bakery is a visual and taste treat; (mango mousse cake for a special birthday was great) not cheap but worth it. This is a gourmet grocery store and it's well worth wandering the aisles and purchasing yummies for your dream picnic basket later on. read more
